Well, there are several ways I think we'll be avoiding the scenario you envision: 1) The AI for the NPC will likely be better than in a Lego game. 2) We likely won't be able to drive the Batmobile. 3) The game takes place on Christmas Eve. At night. We likely won't be seeing many civilians. 4) The game, like it's previous instalments, won't let you attack friendly NPC's. Any attempts to attack the doctors/guards/political prisoners/etc would result in your attack missing/going through them.

Thothwick turned, unsure as to whom had saluted him. He noticed the face of a familiar Sorcerer poking out of a Town Watch uniform. "What a nice way to take penance for your sins. I shall see you at your new headquaters shortly." Thothwick turned to leave one more, but noticed Skrall had left his brown study. Thothwick raised his had in friendly acknowledgement. "Perhaps next time, Mr. Skrall!" Turning on his heel once more, he left the hall.

"Ah! Plenty of potential recruits, perfect!" Leaving the strangely despondent Skral, he heads over to bid Hoptet farewell. "Another day, another Quest. As per all of my recent Quests, it's in Eubric, so I shan't be long." "Stay safe. I'll keep Humanish writing." Whilst fastening his armour, Thothwick checked Hoptet's papers, and noticed an improvement in his students Humanish. He could now spell his name. "Perfect. You'll be fluent in no time." Kissing eachother goodbye, Thothwick departed for the Town Watches' headquaters.

The Hobbit movies discussion
Professor Flitwick replied to SheepEater's topic in Culture & Multimedia
That's intentional. Tolkien made up their names to be as confusing and mix-upable as possible. Peter Jackson & co. have actually made it much easier to tell them apart, with their different wardrobes, weapons, beards and mannerisms. Again, it helps that Toliken wrote the LotR's characters with much more variety than he did with the dwarves in the Hobbit. I think it's necessary. Considering other films in it's genre, the Hobbit uses a comparatively small amount of green screen/CGI. Also, whilst some scenes may seem cartoonish, even childish at times, you have to remember that the Hobbit was written as a children's book. It's just keeping those elements. -
LOTR & The Hobbit 2013 Set Discussion
Professor Flitwick replied to CM4Sci's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
You guys realise that kids like Lego, too? Many will want to complete their collection of Thorin's company before they start getting more minor characters. Not to mention, there will be those who weren't interested in Lego/The Hobbit last year that will want to get into the theme, and as such TLC will likely squeeze as many of the Dwarves as possible back into it. Why do you think there are more of the Hogwarts/Milenium Falcon/Anikan/Harry Potter/Jack Sparrow/Indiana Jones sets/figures? Curb your expectations, guys, and you may end up pleasantly surprised.- 7,499 replies

Zepher/Sandy, are the titles given by the Court of Demons also to count as titles in the Heroica Hall topic?

After returning from a short browse of the Market, the two Metasimians return to the hall, when Thothwick see's Skrall, and turns to Hoptet. "Must act quickly. Strike whilst the irons hot." Biding his partner farewell, he rushed over to the Quest Board. "I'm sure the town watch would find your services invaluable, Mr. Skrall. Hopefully they can find a use for us myself." said Thothwick, signing his name up for Quest 66. "How have you been, since our last Quest?"

Wasn't sure what to think of it at first. Didn't love it, nor hate it. But then I saw it's trailer, and warmed up to it after seeing it in 3D. Here's hoping it's a new form!

I'd like to imagine that, one day, a post-apocalyptic society may use the gospel of Gene Hunt as part of their pantheon. Just think how many great works of art can be made by studying his words! url="

Ashes to Ashes?

Thothwicks backstory is an amalgamation of several episodes of Downton Abbey!

Thothwick walked into the Hall, stepping aside to let a young red-headed human pass him in a flurry. Sitting down across from Hoptet, he unfastened his chestplate, revealing a crisp suit being worn underneath. "Quest success?" "Close. We lost a few, but succeeded." "Sadness. Will you go to, how they say... firing?" "'Cremation', and alas, no, there shan't be one. They were buried, as per human custom." The two exchanged looks of bewilderment. Even after several years away from the Mistlands, culture shocks can still be brought upon. "How Orang Pendek is supposed to get to them is beyond me, but it seemed for best. We were too busy grieving to discuss funeral arrangements." Thothwick motioned to Scheherazade to bring them both their drinks. "But Quest was won? Witch Wren gone?" Thothwick leant back slightly, and sighed a sigh of relief. "Gone." The Orc Matron placed their beverages on the table, grunting in acknowledgement as she did so. "I want you to remember tonight, Hoptet." The two raised their drinks. "Tonight, S.O.Ws message was proved. Witches are a dangerous threat. Tonight, S.O.Ws purpose, was not provide in vain. Witches can be stopped." *chink*

Eh, there are ways around it. I could make Hoptet sign up, but misspell his name as 'Hoke Ablesword'!

To the best of my understanding, the Shadeaux aren't 'evil' or 'bad'. Conversely, the Hinckwells aren't 'good'. None of the houses fall into such categories. It's just how they've been portrayed in the majority of the Quests they've appeared in, leading to some stigmatisation. Hopefully some future quests will remedy that. Quests which require Metasimians.

Goodness gracious me! They're forcing you to watch it? That's terrible... Sounds interesting, to say the least. I recall liking Finding Nemo, so it'll be good to see those characters back again. Fingers crossed for Bruce!- 279 replies

Heroica RPG - Quest Masters' Lounge
Professor Flitwick replied to Sandy's topic in The Heroica Archive
Wowza. I didn't really follow Quest 49 closely (no offence Etzel, as a rule I tend not to follow other Quests too much, as it might affect my player vs. character knowledge), but when you requested that Etzel post this here, I knew it must've been related to it. But did I expect you to do it? No, thats, wow... -
Heroica RPG - Quest Masters' Lounge
Professor Flitwick replied to Sandy's topic in The Heroica Archive
Sorry this took so long, I just decided for it to be all on the table before I talked about the Quest. Zepher, this Quest finale did not disappoint! The Quest was exciting, both in and out of battles (in particular, the brilliant battle with the cellar floor! ). Wren has been a great villian, and I actually sympathy for her (and Arthur) in the end, to come so far, sacrifice so much, and to lose, was sad. It's the hallmark of a good writer, if you can make a sympathetic villain. I'm quite honoured how my character ties for going on the most Wren-Quests (along with CorneliusMurdock, I believe), though it's a shame how he hasn't had as much interaction with her as some others have (being behind bars for Quest 7, taking up non-Wren side-quests for Quest 30). I too like how Thothwicks disposition contrasts with the rest of the party. I always see him as a bit like Hurley on Lost. Cheerful, but capable of something more. I remembered after Quest 30, you asked me to try and interact with others more, and I think I did it. I tried to mention Hoptet a bit more, but I felt like I had to try and ration how much he thought about him, what with the Quest only taking place over the course of one very busy night - if that makes sense. If you want to push his buttons, put him and Atramor on a two man Quest that spans over several days. They'd either make friends, or kill eachother. Players: MDM: I'm quite jealous of how your path to Dragoon seems so natural. Hoke is a great character, and I have a feeling that he and Thothwick could bond quite well over their mutual love of Dragons, should they ever go on a Quest together, with a smaller party. Flipz: I know a few where a bit annoyed by Arthur in this Quest, but found some of your choices were true to his character. They could've been potentially detrimental to the party, but roleplaying takes a big part of this game, and you priorities it well. I liked out post battle interaction, maybe our characters can rub off on eachother in the future. I'm not entirely certain about Arthur and Alexis' relationship, but I'm sure it will come to fruition in the future. MB: I really liked your change to Assassin, it seemed the most purposeful of all the advanced-class transitions I've seen (which is something else I'm envious of, as I kinda walked in, shrugged my shoulders and said "yeah, black knight, why not?" ). I liked our brief conversation at the start, and it seems like they could have quite a friendship together. As with Flipz, I'm on the fence about your relationship, but I eagerly await seeing it blossom! Scorpiox: For a while I thought Atramor might have a rival for the 'Most hated by Thothwick' award. It was cool to see two very different characters meet, and not have them much up right away. There were very clear cultural boundaries between them, and I like how all it needed to become amicable was a step back, and a quick breather. I doubt they'll ever be friends, but I think future interaction between the two could be interesting. Legonator: Another one! Their different approaches to a situation made them at odds, and their stubbornness only fuelled it. Again, it was nice how all it took was some time apart to make things calmer. CMP: Ah, Thothwick's arch nemesis. I love our characters relationship, and I really want them to go on a Quest together. As per usual, great role playing. Atramor is one of my favourites, and I think him nearly killing everybody really fuelled me on for the final part of the Quest. Pandora: Nyx is probably one of the few heroes that Thothwick would call a friend, but we didn't seem to get much time together here. I really enjoyed Nyx's reaction to XX's departure. WBD: As you've said, most of our interaction came prior to the Quest. It's a shame really, but we'll have a chance to interact more when I drop by with your S.O.W starter pack! CM: I loved Cronks reaction to all the deaths in the finale. As the hero who has fought against Wren the most (more than I, technically, if we count Quest 29), it really seemed like he had the most cause against Wren. I liked the little interaction we had, and I'm sorry for not comforting Cronk. He seemed to have enough people around him . I know Skrall (WBD) did, since he's stated many times that he's got backup characters. I also came VERY close to opting-in for Arthur (several times, actually), but ultimately decided not to. As for my own speculation: I'm pretty sure Cronk (CM), Nyx (Pandora), and possibly Haldor (Scorpiox) also opted-in. I know for certain that Alexis (Masked Builder), Dyric (The Legonater), and Atramor (CallMePie) did not. And I too opted in for perma-death. I get what Flipz says about wanting to play out a characters arc to the full, but people can die before their time. For example, many characters in Lost died with arcs ongoing, and the Game of Thrones is littered with them, too. I'm also fairly sure I'll die with a few arcs left to go, so surely Thothwick could, too! -
Heroica RPG - Quest #53: Chaos in Eubric
Professor Flitwick replied to Zepher's topic in The Heroica Archive
Thothwick pocketed his new equipment. "The Sapphire is of no apparent use, but the gold will be useful. And how very thoughtful of Mr. Cronk to give me a relic from a Dragon..." "I'm sure that - wherever they maybe - they're very touched by the gesture, Mr. Cronk." -

Thothwick stood, arms folded behind his back, nodding at the various eulogies being spoken, occasionally saying "Well said" or "Indeed". He didn't really know what to do with himself, with Metasimian funerals being quite different to the one being practised now. -

Upon hearing the Sorcerers words, Thothwick sighed loudly, and gingerly lowered Gnashs body. "Indeed, Regulus, 'this' is indeed 'it'. If you lower your eyes, you can see another way 'it' could have manifested itself. But, like it or not, 'this' is 'it'. We have to play the cards we're dealt." Thothwick carefully picked up Gnash once more, waiting to see if Arthur would continue to assist him. -

Thothwick jumped back in surprise at the sudden revitalisation of the Sorcerer. He looked down at his weeping, pitiful figure. "Does he wish to repent for his actions, or repent for being caught?" Thothwick looked over his shoulder, and saw most of his companions comforting the brave Mr. Cronk. "If the brave can break after, maybe it is permissible for the weak to break during?" Looking back at Arthur, he grimaced at him. "If you truly wish to repent, start now. Help me carry Mr. Gnash out of here. Their sacrifice warrants much more than being left here." -

He moved a few paces away, not wishing survey the carnage of the battle. Sitting on a small pile of rubble, he caressed his pipe. Gazed up at the imposing temple of Zoot, he reminisced not a Quest he partook upon not but days ago. "Mephisto swallowed two heroes whole. Mr. Harkenshire, and Fenerian Mage. Both turned up a short while later - little worse for wear, but essentially fine. Perhaps..." Heaving himself up, he walked amongst his companions. He came across the corpse of Gnash. "He died a free Orc. Probably would've preferred it to a long life in chains..." Moving further on, he noticed the body of Hans, and knelt beside him. "May Orang Pendek guide you to a lustrous hall of gold, and reinstate both brains and beauty. May your next reward the sacrifices of your last." Gazing up slightly, he noticed Arthur was the only hero not to get up back on his feet. He walked across to him, and felt for a pulse, not entirely hoping to find one. -
