If you’d done as I said (select one and look at the status line), you’d have seen the actions “Edit” and “Release”. “Edit” enters the submodel (the whole model is still visible but transparent) and you can then move, change or delete its parts (and submodels). “Release” breaks the submodel into its parts (and submodels, it’s not recursive). They are not grouped anymore. You need to explore and try yourself to learn. Also, see the links here:
-
Those are submodels: hierarchical groups of parts and submodels to ease the build, the instructions, repetitions, etc. Here the build has been separated (at the top level) between the forklift itself and the palette it carries. Click on one, and look at the status line (the semi-transparent line at the bottom of the model), you’ll see possible actions.
-
Studio: “Greyed out” bricks are in collision. Sometimes, it’s a bug in the collision shape of the part but it’s generally a wrong placement. (Also note that collision detection is dependent upon the graphical detail level: coarser = less accurate). You can disable collision with the triangle icon. For rotating/hinging: connect the parts, select the one you want to move, either hit 'R' or click the hand/wrench icon and then the round icon. Then grab or click the rotation arrow. If you grab the arrow, inside the circle, rotation step is 5°, outside, it’s finer and finer the further you go from the center. If you click the arrow (no drag), a textfield appears to enter the exact angle. You can’t rotate/hinge parts if there’s a connection that prevent it (closed triangle, etc.). There’s no hinge tool like in LDD to hinge multiple points at the same time (it’s a pain in LDD in anyway). LDD: You can do nothing with 4.3.12. Uninstall it. You may install the correct 4.3.11 following the instructions in the thread I already linked. Nevertheless, there has been no new parts for LDD for 26 months. And importation of new parts isn’t possible. (Some people have made custom parts but it’s really a pain.)
-
@nocruoro: You actually installed 4.3.12. It says 4.3.11 once installed but it doesn’t connect to Internet and the brick library is 777 instead on 2670 (many many bricks missing). 4.3.12 is a botched attempt by LEGO to make LDD installable on Windows 10. Look at this thread: Now, as 1963maniac says, LDD has been abandoned and LEGO bought BrickLink (and Studio) and said they will continue developping Studio. But there’s many messages about missing Bionicle parts. You can check their availability in the LDraw library (Studio uses it).
-
You know BrickLink has got (most of) the inventories for the older sets? For intance 6371-1. Most of the part numbers are the same. Otherwise, the descriptions will give you hints to find them in LDraw.

4 8 6 9 - four eight six nine I’m not sure Ubuntu 19.10 has the latest Official library. You can download it here. Unzip it somewhere in your home directory and edit LeoCAD’s preferences to use it. For Unofficial, you can download the whole Unofficial library here. Unzip it in /usr/share/ldraw/parts/unofficial/ (or /home/you/somewhere/ldraw/unofficial/ if you downloaded the latest Official). Don’t forget to get the dependencies (subparts, numbered bla_s01.dat and so on, they go in the “s” subdir) when downloading only one part from Unofficial.

3840d09 is in Unofficial. But there’s the sticker 199025a.dat in Official. The turbine fans are in Official, they are 4869.dat (typo in my previous message ).

Minifig is missing his yellow vest (3840d09.dat), and his tools (Dark Grey 3837.dat and 3841.dat). The roadsign is missing too (3351ap03.dat). The trailer should have four square stickers with black/yellow stripes (to make corner chevrons) but I can’t find them in LDraw. I remember they didn’t last long though

Good A pity they made a 4.3.12 with even more problems than 4.3.11 -
How take cabel egdes separately in LDD
SylvainLS replied to lustoro's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Confirmed. In Mindstorm mode and with the same typo we see in the screenshot (“cabel” instead of “cable”), there are 6 pairs of connectors available in 4.3.11: 11145 (250mm), 11146 (350mm), 11147 (500mm), and 55804 (0.2m), 55805 (0.35m), 55806 (0.5m). All with 60410 connectors. (Without the typo, still in Mindstorm mode, three other parts show and they are tuntables.) (For other connector types, you need to use the Extended mode.) So there’s undoubtedly a problem with LDD here. See the other posts about 4.3.12 / installing 4.3.11 on Windows 10, they have links to correct 4.3.11 installators. Now, about the coloured arrows, note they only appear if the part is placed, not when the cable’s still “held” with the mouse. But if you don’t see them (the colour changes with each new cable), then you really have a problem with your LDD. -

Remove the ground. Even with both ground and sky (“background”) of the same colour, they are still ground and sky.
-
First, with 2000+ pieces, I hope you’re using submodels. Then, Studio can create steps automatically: go to the Instruction mode, select the parts, and a “divide into steps” buttons appears, click on it, et voilà. It’s crude bottom-up building but it does the trick for simple builds (hence the usefulness of submodels).

Update 2019-12-18 Colours again. (It only impacts hidden and rare colours.) I decided to match LDD colours to “near-enough” existing LDraw colours when there’s no official match instead of trying to keep the same numbers. Also for “near-enough,” instead of my eyes, I used the δE (CIE94) distance. md5sum: a60c172f99497c17613effc7d2dc3745

Mirroring MOC, mass colour change??
SylvainLS replied to Johnnycrash's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
But the regular mode doesn’t have “only legal parts.” It proposes colours that don’t exist for certain parts. And, not only is it missing a lot of modern parts, it’s missing many colours that do exist. IOW, regular mode is totally broken nowadays. Regular or Extended, you HAVE TO check and recheck the “legality” of the parts and colours. So you can go to the Extended mode to recolour your parts and then back to regular to continue your build.
