  1. No, I only replaced the “flat BI” version with the “hierarchical BI” version. But the “group” version is still the main one (most useful IMHO). Well, if there’s no BI, both files would be the same, and presenting two files to the user might be confusing, especially when they are the same. So I prefer to have the option “use BI if there are BI.”
  2. Er, well, I’d rather use simple text tools, especially as it’s not something that will be done regularly. Not really. The first one (dating parts) isn’t straightforward as BL doesn’t include the dates in its catalogue downloads. That means scraping/parsing all the parts pages of BL. But that can be done easily. The second one (LDD) is easier: ldraw.xml. But then, on one side you’ll have BL ids and on the other LDraw ids and LEGO ids. That’s another source of errors (besides errors in BL’s catalogue). But if that’s “good enough,” it’s easy. I can have a dated / sorted list tomorrow (there are many parts in BL’s catalogue, we don’t want to burden BL’s servers too much, they are always sluggish).
  3. Exactly. LDraw is a strict hierarchy. It’s simple and elegant: primitives, subparts, parts, submodels, models, supermodels, all have the same format. But you can have only one hierarchy. When you edit a LDraw submodel, you can move or add parts so that they collide with their sibling submodels. Or if two submodels are linked by a hinge, you better have that hinge at the same level as the submodels: if it’s in one of the submodels, rotating it won’t hinge the other submodel (at least, that’s how it works in Studio). Well, I think it’s simpler to just run the conversion twice: once with the BI option checked, and once with the option unchecked. Not many people are interested in both.
  4. I don’t really get it but I don’t know how connectivity works so I’ll trust you All the files in LDraw?
  5. Sure, it’s just a little ‘grep’ away. (‘grep’ is a Unix command line tool to search patterns in files.) I did a thorough search to match LDraw parts (and their aliases and variants) to LDD parts, and for those that weren’t in LDraw (around 1000), I searched for matches in BL’s catalogue to have their “AFOL names” so I could search if they were in LDraw under a similar name and so they can be spotted when a new part arrives in LDraw. Therefore I can say “beware of LDD numbers” (especially on composite parts: LDD often uses the number and name of a subpart for the whole). But I can also say “search for the LDraw number, it should be there.”
  6. There’s a connectivity problem with tyre 52985: on the pic, one tyre is 180° from the other, the 56908 hubs have both the same orientation, they are misaligned by 5 LDU / 2mm. IOW, 56908 isn’t centered in the tyre (need to be moved 1mm). On the one hand, there were articles / blog posts about “when LEGO was only bricks” (which it wasn’t) with statistics on the number of parts per set and the number of sets per year. On BrickSet I think. On the other hand, the best data should be on BrickLink. But we also know there are errors and uncertainties (variants not recognized, wrongly corrected or not corrected, simply not known, or other human errors and lack of knowledge). Sure, just one search in ldraw.xml and you know if a part exists in LDD
  7. @Stephan Maybe you can add a comment on how to use git to download the files, something like: # the first time: git clone https://github.com/stephan3321/LDD-New-Parts # then, inside the LDD-New-Parts directory, to update to the lastest version: git pull
  8. It seems you didn’t use the LDraw part for the wand (the ring is neat in LDraw (and on the real part), and your part is a bit longer). Isn’t there a way to have clip connectivity in the other way too? On the ballish end, so that it can be pointed.
  9. It seems it “simply” crashed, silently. Didn’t you find any log file in your user directory?
  10. Okay, so after the numerous and varied feedback (crickets…), I decided to upload the hierarchical version as it keeps more information and information is important.
  11. Trigonometry, with pen and paper or a geometry programme….
  12. And you can read about the coordinate and transformation system here. Also, you can see the bounding boxes in Developper mode.
  13. I just noticed 24866 (flower plate) seems to be missing bar connectivity in its hollow stud.
  14. There are more and more people using Studio too. And Studio doesn’t know how to import the new parts correctly so they are placed every which way. About GitHub: note that there are alternative solutions, like Gitlab….
  15. Or an explanation of the format for a start because I really don’t want to reverse-engineer it myself
  16. I looked a bit and I think the problem is the reverse: there’s connectivity set for these half-antistud, so when one is connected to a stud, the stud is occupied and can’t be used by another half-antistud. The other cut plates don’t have connectivity on their cut-antistuds. Which is more accurate because IRL there’s no clutch.
  17. 35787 has collision problems: I can’t use 2 to make a 2x2 square (or use it with any other plate with a cut corner).

  19. Yes, the .g is simply missing in the .rar I was mostly thinking about the future, when you’ll have only one part per week or so. Sure, for now, as you’re adding many parts at once, it doesn’t change much.
  20. Minifig Skirt 36036 doesn’t work (error in display, invisible).
  21. @Stephan: Could you make a new post here (if not in the main topic) when parts are added? Otherwise, we don’t know about it. Also, I know it’s more work but it’s a big archive to download (and unrar), so could you devise some way to provide only the latest parts? (Maybe links to the needed files (.xml and .g) for the newest parts?)

  23. How do you find the center / rotation? Why is it different from LDraw’s? (Sorry for the edit of the previous post while you were answering :D)
  24. @jester 1 little problem with 377203 (37720c): the bar connection is too low by 0.16mm. I can’t connect 611904 to the helmet? 611906 could have connectivity on the bole (cannon?). And 611904 (61190d.dat) and 611905 (61190e.dat) already were in LDD as, respectively, 63586 and 63585. That’s a problem for ldraw.xml as the parts aren’t oriented the same way. And 626982 has no connectivity. That’s accurate but not very useful :D Also, one question: as the parts’ geometries are from LDraw, I was expecting straightforward transformations (identity) when adding the parts to ldraw.xml. They certainly are not. How is the parts’ center calculated? Is it automatic / out of your control, or a result of your making process?
  25. The studs seem full. The underside, I don’t know, I don’t have one, they aren’t in LDraw and I can’t find pictures. They don’t seem very interesting: they are all patterned and they all are from 2003 sets and never made again.
