LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 16 Rumors and Discussion
telaruhn replied to 8BrickMario's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Her voice isn't too bad... I've heard more annoying voices. Anyways, my thoughts on the figures as they appear in the video: Babysitter: Only okay. I'm still not quite sure what is on her shirt, but I don't like it at all. The baby is the best part. Scalawag Pirate: Pretty good. I like his map and his prints. Can't say that I like the bandana headpiece, though. It seems to me like any molds that show off a bald head look odd (i.e. Grandpa, William Shakespeare). Wildlife Photographer: Try as they may to make the figure itself appealing, I just don't like the combination of colors in her snowsuit. The penguin is the best part. Dog Show Winner: He's slightly better than the photographer, but again, the dog is the best part. His hair is new and pretty interesting. Imp: One of the best in this series. I'm surprised he comes with so many pieces! Definitely worth what you pay for. Cyborg: Totally called the one-arm printing, and the lack of printing on the torso. Despite that, this review showed a lot more cool printing, like on the left shoulder and leg, so I still like her. Female Boxer: Cool prints, especially on her legs, but I'm a bit disappointed she's red like the S5 Boxer. Interesting that she comes with a 1x1 round brick, presumably to hold the boxing helmet... Rogue: Love the face printing, HATE the left arm with the dark red and dark green... Looks out-of-place and a bit ugly. That will be switched out most likely. Hiker: A lot of great parts, especially the new backpack. Love his "lost" face! Spooky Boy: Still not sure about the face, the tooth is a little weird... But, I do like the clothes he comes with. Arabian Knight: I'm coming around on him, I just don't like the dark green turban. Great prints. Mariachi: Love the printing on the side of the legs, and the face print under the moustache! The trim on the sombrero looks like its a bit low, like it should be higher up towards the brim... That guitar is fantastic, though. I see there's a pin inside for use with minidolls, which is great. Penguin Suit Guy: Cute as always! Nothing new to really say about him. Banana Man: Love his face print. As with Hot Dog Man before him, the attention is all in the suit. Spy: Like the Hiker and Imp, he comes with a lot of great parts. The printing on the left arm is a nice surprise. I hope his hair works with other visors. Ice Queen: Beautiful. Love the arm printing and the new tiara. The ice beams are nice, but feel unwieldy, so I'm not sure I'll display her with them. My only criticism is that she didn't get the dress piece that came with the S15 Queen; I would have preferred that over the ice beams. Overall, great series. I plan on looking for these tomorrow. Definitely gonna call my local TRU... -

Yeah... They did do well with the numbers this time around. The Arabian Knight is the Kendo Fighter of Series 16! He does have some nice prints though, especially the face. I think he'll definitely look better with a white turban... -

Interesting distribution! I expected the Penguin Guy to be a little more common, but at least Banana Man is! And as usual, the ladies are all rare. I did expect the Ice Queen to be rare because she has so many parts, but I was hoping we would get more Cyborgs per box... -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 16 Rumors and Discussion

Yeah, I was at a Target yesterday and saw a full display of Disney figures. Since Target won't sell the castle, they'll probably wait until all the Disney figures are sold before putting out S16. Scalpers are an unfortunate reality. Sure, I buy some extras here and there, and keep a copy of my favorites in their packaging, but I would never search through boxes to buy a particular figure specifically for resale. I've thankfully never encountered a shortage for figures relative to each series' release, but that may change. The only real way to beat scalpers is to get there first... -

It's good to see that Series 16 is out in stores so early, though it's interesting that they are pushing up the release so the Disney figures will be sold at the same time as the D2C castle. I'm just wondering how this will affect stores that aren't selling the castle... Based on the new pictures, I'm intrigued. There are a lot of amazing figures and I'll be getting at least one of each. Can't wait to see the details and box distribution in a proper review, which seems like it would happen soon... -
I think that given the large price point, this set will be on the market for longer than the Minifigures. And I mean, probably past Christmas. Sure, it's probably going to sell well, but it's a much larger investment compared to buying a minifigure or two from blind bags. With that in mind, I think you can wait... I plan to, anyway.

Hmm... The lobsters I've seen have claws that are the same size. There are crustaceans that have two different-sized claws, as x105Black pointed out with the Fiddler Crab, but I don't ever recall seeing that on a lobster. Looking past that, I'd be more keen on having the Lobster Suit Guy with same-sized claws, even if the existing crab claws don't totally match a lobster claw. He would already have to come with a lot of new parts, so using existing claws seems necessary. The claw that came with the Fly just seems a bit too small in the context of a lobster IMO. I do like that Fiddler Crab idea, though it seems we would have to get other animal suits before that ever happens...
-
For the Lobster Suit Guy, I envision him using the claws from the Crab Warrior figure in the Atlantis sets. I think those just fit in a regular minifigure hand, and they're larger and more imposing than the claw that came with the Fly Monster. Then all he would need is a new headpiece, and probably a new tail piece too...

Gorgeous. Simply Gorgeous. I can't wait to buy it! So many amazing parts and recolors...

Excellent renditions! My favorites are the Strongman, Explorer, Hippie Girl, and Dark Elf. I feel that LEGO, were they to make a Strongman of their own, would be more apt to make his torso white or red instead of yellow, simply because the yellow torso makes him look too bare-skinned. That conclusion is really only based on previous figures with similar prints on their torsos, like the S15 Ballerina. However, I know that LEGO has problems with printing yellow on white torsos, as well as printing yellow AND white on red torsos, so the yellow torso is likely the best option in that regard... The previously mentioned idea would likely be applied to the upper legs - otherwise the Strongman would be mooning everyone, lol! Sorry for the tangent, but I like to discuss design subtleties such as these. Despite that, you always make fantastic figures with the available pieces and prints! Can't wait to see what else you come up with in the future :)

I can totally agree with you on that! Not too long of a wait for Series 16 :) -

LEGO sets for a given year are all finalized at one time, so it makes sense that we get information earlier on sets released later in the calendar year, relative to earlier-released sets. It was the same deal last year with Series 14, where we got pictures of partially built figures in January... -
"Classic" Castle sets by definition will likely be directly competing with Nexo Knights sets, because the inspiration behind them is very similar. It's the same reason why there's no pirate sets being released alongside Ninjago, which has a pirate thematic in their most recent releases. So because of that, I doubt we will see any of those classically-styled Castle sets while Nexo Knights sets are still being produced. Honestly, I think it will be more beneficial for LEGO to make more original themes considering how successful Ninjago has been, rather than resting on their laurels by making more sets based on classic themes... They may not be nice for historical fans at first glance, but there are still plenty of parts that can be used in historical and fantasy settings.

What minifigs are we missing - post your detailed suggestions here
telaruhn replied to CopMike's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I agree! The most obvious omission to the CMF theme thus far is perhaps a modern-age Doctor, with dual-colored legs as a long white coat and a stethoscope attached at the neck. He/she can also have a thermometer, either one of those old mercury ones or an electronic one... A Pharmacist with a mortar-and-pestle could also be interesting. Not sure they would give him/her an orange prescription vial, but I would also welcome that considering it's so recognizable. If you prefer more historical medicine figures, a Plague Doctor would be a cool and somewhat recognizable figure with their bird-like masks and wide-brim hats. An Alchemist/Apothecary figure would basically be an old-time Pharmacist, but they would come with a new flask color instead of a prescription vial... EDIT: A combat medic of some sort would also be cool. I've mentioned a Space Medic many times on my CMF wishlists to heal those Galaxy Troopers' wounds... -
I just bought the Secret Market Place and Fire Dragon's Lava Cave, so I currently have Thorne and Zonya for dragons. Overall, I appreciate the use of the Mixel joints and that the joints connecting the legs to the body are concealed rather well. The only downside is that there is less range of motion in the joints due to the added brick bulk. I'm not sure if there's a happy medium there, but both Zonya and Thorne can be placed in plenty of poses, and it not too big a concern for me. I'm glad the seats on the dragons can be used for minifigures, as I prefer them over minidolls. Out of the two I have, I really like Zonya's proportions, to the point where I really think all the dragons should have had this larger shape to them. It really benefits her posability and overall proportions with her head (since they all appear to use the same head). In addition, she has a bendable tail while Thorne's doesn't bend at all! Suprisingly, I also like Zonya's color scheme. The combination of Bright Yellowish Orange and Magenta work suprisingly well for the fire element, despite possessing no regular Red or Orange that normally indicates that element. My only other criticism really goes beyond this theme, but I wish there were more male dragons than just Spark and Thorne. But gender imbalance is present in nearly all original LEGO themes, so it's something I'll just have to accept. I just wish it wasn't so obvious that characters like Farran are so "token," for lack of a better term...

I think it will depend on what you're looking for. Are you looking for interesting parts? Or would you rather have a set that you could keep together? Do you want a dragon? And how much are you willing to spend? If you're willing to spend over 50 dollars, I would suggest the Secret Marketplace. It showcases the style of both the Elves buildings as well as the dragons, and will probably give you the best idea as to whether or not you should get more sets. I haven't gotten it yet, but it's my favorite set from the most recently released waves. I do have the Dragon School and the Starlight Inn, which are both more cheap alternatives, but I don't really like them for what they are. They do have nice piece assortments, however, and that is why I got them. In contrast, I like the Marketplace for what it is and I don't intend to dismantle it entirely, but rather MOD it to my liking. I hope this helps!

LEGO Batman Movie CMF Series (2017) Rumors and Discussion
telaruhn replied to LegoPercyJ's topic in LEGO Licensed
Hmm... Seeing as this is pretty-much-confirmed, I'll remain ambivalent about this like I was about the Simpsons and Disney series until I see pictures or a list of the lineup. I'm not that big of a superhero fan, and even at that, I prefer Marvel over DC... Since this will be based on the LEGO Batman movie, I'm willing to bet there will be some original characters... A lot of possibilities, to be sure! And as always, a great opportunity for some cool new molds! -

Thanks for the info, AB! It looks like the Spooky Boy and Ice Queen have prints on their arms, too. The Ice Queen's is less overt, but it's definitely there... They look like shimmering ice-bracers. Spooky Boy has both dual-colored arms and printing, like the Tribal Woman. I like how the stripes on the sleeves play off the Spooky Girl's tights! A handful of CMFs have had printing on only one arm - Gladiator, Motorcycle Mechanic, Wacky Witch, Zombie Businessman, Animal Control Officer... Anyway, It's reasonable to assume the Scalawag Pirate won't have another anchor tattoo on his other arm, so it's possible he only has printing on his right arm. But we could also have another Tomahawk Warrior or Barbarian - where the arms each have a unique print. Another discovery that I'm concerned about - the Cyborg's left hand is yellow. It seems possible that the printing on her right arm is there to showcase her "cybernetic" arm, while leaving the left arm unprinted to clearly make it appear as her "human" arm. We'll need better pictures to confirm, but the Rogue's arm asymmetry leads me to believe that there are other figures that have asymmetry in their arms, as well... -
Review: 41180: Ragana's Magic Shadow Castle

This! Thanks for the excellent pictures and review. I am definitely buying this set and modifying it for Maleficent. This castle suits her just as much as it does Ragana... -

Darn. That's what I expected would happen. I wonder his connection to LEGO and how he got the box in the first place... At any rate, at least we got picures of all of the figures. I'm surprised and thankful we got them this early! -

I'm warming up to the Arabian Knight, but he is still far from my favorite in this wave. While I was ambivalent on the inclusion of the scimitar mold, I appreciate its use in black, which to some is better than the alternative (a.k.a. I thought it was gonna be Pearl Gold). His arm prints are a nice, basic gold bracer, and as such I am considering getting an extra copy to put on my Flying Warrior. I like his leg assembly, especially with the toe prints giving you a feel for those shoes that curl up at the end. The unfortunate part is the dark green sash, which kind of makes it mandatory to use the torso and legs together, though that principle only appears to apply to the legs (using the torso alone seems like it would look okay). I LOVE the face, especially since it's more of a 'stern' face and not so much an 'angry' face like the Hun Warrior's. And I like the facial hair! Though I wanted him to have a white turban, I can understand that they wanted to use a new color, since the Snake Charmer already had a white one. Thankfully, I bought a few extra Snake Charmers, mainly for the cobra, but the extra white turbans will definitely come in handy when I get some Arabian Knights and swap out the headgear... -
I found Azari and the Magical Bakery and Aira's Creative Workshop at Barnes and Noble today. Had to get them considering I haven't seen them in other stores in a while... and they're no longer on the US S&H. I passed on them before, so I'm glad I found them. While I don't plan on keeping them together, I really like the sets and all the diverse colored parts, especally the lava falls mechanism in the bakery set that reveals the Fire Key. Now I think I want the Adventure Ship before that is sold out... I just found out I have some VIP points to spend!
-
I got the Starlight Inn yesterday, and was able to put it together today. I quite like the lavender rocks, but it will definitely be de-pinked... as for parts, I like the teapot, the printed tiles like the wood and the compass, and, surprisingly, the baby dragon. I like the little guy so much, that I'm considering collecting all the baby dragons and all the adult dragons, too... which means buying nearly every set this wave and in the summer wave. I'll have to get a set with an adult dragon before I decide further; the Secret Marketplace and the Dragon School are next on my list!

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 16 Rumors and Discussion
telaruhn replied to 8BrickMario's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Why so butthurt about false information? Is it that harmful to your well-being? And Apparently, a Rogue needs daggers instead of a bow and arrow to be considered as such, otherwise he is a Ranger? Whenever I think of a Rogue, I imagine the Rogue Encampment from Diablo II, Act I. Though all the hireable mercenaries were women, they were called Rogues and they could only be equipped with bows... I feel like there's a lot of talk over a name that IMO doesn't make much difference. We all have our own definition of Rogue, despite the clear fact that the term transcends into the multiple examples of Rogue we have seen and provided in this thread, including TLG's version. -

I think even the Dino Tracker's head would work nicely. And maybe switch the Kickboxer to the Dino Tracker ponytail, too...
