Bionicle 2016 Story Discussion & Rumors

It looks great to me. I wish the sets looked that good, I wouldn't want to mod them! -
Star Wars Constraction 2016 Discussion
One Very Agile Cat replied to Logan McOwen's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Man, I'm gonna end up buying multiples of these guys for parts, aren't I? That gearbox setup is genius. -
On the plus side, it should be pretty straightforard to mod the Toa if you don't like the gear waist. On the minus side, you'll have to figure out how to attach a neck post, and have to get six of these things, plus six neck posts. Needless to say, I'm up for the challenge. I just feel bad for the people who don't want to have to deal with the effort to get sets they want when they shouldn't have to. One thing I'll always give 2015, I modded those sets a heck of a lot less than what I'm planning to do this year, as great as the new parts are.

Wasn't G1 Bionicle all about slender, lanky limbs? I do agree his lower legs and upper legs should be longer and shorter by one module respectively. That said, aside from really needing a few of those gold shells swapped out with red, he looks just fine to me. The mask is great, a massive improvement over the ridiculously over-sized 2015 mask that crashed into his chest. I also think attaching his shoulder armour to extensions and having them hang down like his 2015 set would not only create visual continuity with his old set, but help with the overall look. It'd look more like real shoulder pads rather than part of the torso armour that overhangs. His weapons don't look as bad as I originally thought, but I feel like they could be spiced up. Maybe ditch the gimmick and combine them with gold Chima swords instead of the electric fire parts to beef them up and, again, complete the idea that this is a revamp of before. Then maybe add the leftover electric things to his back so he has something going on in that void. (or remove Ikir's head and legs and make him a permanent resident?) I'm amused by the comment "lack of red" considering that to anyone other than us festidious Lego fans, he has plenty of red in the trans orange. Which certainly makes him look firey. He really just needs more red because he needs a little less gold. (I don't even know if I have many red shells left :( ) EDIT: I bet red feet would really hlp, too.

REVIEW: 71311 Kopaka and Melum Unity Set
One Very Agile Cat replied to VBBN's topic in LEGO Action Figures
I really like Kopaka's mask, especially with the stud in it. Very Nuva-like but still it's own thing. I also like the blue arms. It's different, and adds a bit on contrast but still works because it's a blue. Definitely gonna try and add some armour or something to the upper arms. There's holes (currently occupied by grey pins) that'd be perfect for sticking a ball or those semi-new connectors. Especially since the lower arms are so bulky. I also don't think the crystal add-on looks good on thighs, and even though Tahu already does it, I may swap the leg armour pieces for better proportions. That said, limb length-wise Kopaka looks really well-proportioned unlike Gali. Shouldn't be hard to alter this to my liking. -
REVIEW: 71307 Gali Uniter of Water
One Very Agile Cat replied to VBBN's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Oh, you mean that totally subjective thing? What's proper to you is not proper to everyone. And the new Uniter armour, Vorox armour, and crystal add-ons just... don't count? (even the mask is more detailed)I mean yeah if this chest piece was with, say, a HF set it'd be super out of place, but it's not really when it's got a bunch fo other piston-covered parts to go with. Funny, because it reminds me of this piece which was, y'know, one of the first CCBS pieces. I mean, you can say it all you want. But it totally does. Their are other parts with piston detailing on them in this set. This is a fact that is not subjective. It does go with it.Whether you like the piece or not is, y'know, totally up to you, but trying to make up some cornball excuse that it doesn't fit and trying to pass that off has having some kind of factual reason that de-legitimizes the opposite opinion is stupid. Just say you don't like it, dude. Clearly it's "purpose" is to give the set more detail, along with the other, detailed parts included that match it's aesthetic. (especially the uniter piece) Besides, just about everyone's going to love the piece by year's end, just in time to hate next year's newest part. -
Is Gen 1 Still Canon?

So I guess you're not a Transformers fan? Because this doesn't even faze me. Multiple, distinct-yet-homaging-each-other continuities is par the course for me. -
REVIEW: 71307 Gali Uniter of Water
One Very Agile Cat replied to VBBN's topic in LEGO Action Figures
The mask and colourscheme are the best parts of this set. The proportiong are SO off though. The length of the limbs isn't really a problem, but Gali's arms sit too high, and the bones for her legs are the completely wrong lengths. The thighs are too long compared to the shins, and There should be a law against combining the friction extenders with HF feet. Her limbs are all the exact same length as her 2015 set, and on a longer torso should look more proportioned to a normal human, but they're ever so off that they just destory the look, and aren't "superhero-y" enough to make up for it. She does look cool combined, though. shame her weapon is so bland. Says who? Or I guess what I should say is how are they more purposeless than the pistons in any given G1 part? At least here in the torso they give the idea of added abdominal articulation that would exist were this a "real" robot. -
I really like Lewa as well. The silver's a little overdone but not terrible. If he had just a bit more green I'd be fine.

I agree. The Mask of Control is one of the selling points of thsi set. I may have to buy some extra sets to make a custom Makuta with it.
-
I think I see now why his shoulders are one module down, to make room so he can hold his bow. Still, I may move them up one becasue I'm not sure I want yet another stud-shooter bow. Other than that, the only problems I have with the set are the too-long thighs, the too-short shins, and the lack of bicep swivels on the arms. All easily fixed with parts I have.

That's actually pretty clever.

Yeah, I noticed that, too. I've love if non-coloured pins and axles came back. Makes MOCing so much easier.

Yeah, the flatness seems to be for the combo, so the creature's various limbs can reach whatever part of the toa they need to sensually effectively wrap around. BTW, the best part of this set for me personally is the mask size. Finally Onua's mask isn't puny compared to everyone else, so he's not a pinhead anymore. Usually everything else on a set can be fixed, but there's no helping 2015 Onua's undersized mask.

Maybe we'll see another torso part that connects to it later on? (since CCBS is spreading into Star Wars now) Good Idea, though if there was actually a bigger gap you could probably sneak in CCBS shells (or something) to widened it ala 2015. Only it wouldn't look as weird on a taller set.

One he will never let us forget it seems. Then again, if 2016 Onua is a crime against the stout, awkward and ugly 2015 Onua, no way would any jury convict it. EDIT: Oh right, I forgot to say I like 2016 (obviously) but I do think he lacks a bit of his own thing, so I'll try and bulk him up a bit and just generally give him something of his "own." It's weird that I really do like the 2016 Toa, but I plan to modify them way more than I did my 2015 Toa. (barring troll Onua who I kinda totally revamped)

I think it's just shorter for clearance like Logan McOwen said.

Maybe it couldn't be made clear enough at that scale? Mata Nui's shape is a bit more complicated than the fiarly simple Nuva symbol designs. I actually don't think that's true at all. It's not inherantly bad, but it's super easy to get wrong.I actually don't think the limbs are complex at all. Lewa's are actually brilliantly simple. I think Pohatu and Kopaka only have such complex upper arms for the sake of the sideways Vorox armour. Every other character that doesn't use that armour for shoulder pads has normal CCBS limbs. Likewsie even the technic torsos seem to be mostly a result fo the new geared waist not being built into an existing skeleton. BTW, I'm planning on adding balls where the 3/4 pins on Kopaka's upper arms are, just above the elbow. Then some small white shells to beef up his arms/shoulders and have some proportional continuity between him and his 2015 version.

Yeah, which means they'd make excellent shoulder pads and other parts. I plan to get two Terak and replace Onua's Skeleton armour with them.

Huh, so it is. That's really odd, and yeah I'll be fixing it, too. Also that one guy called it, Onua DOES have trans-clear and gold crystal parts, as well as Terak. So you can give some to Pohatu or Lewa if you get extras. :D

Oh yeah, the masks are excellent. I like Tahu's the best. It probably goes Tahu, Lewa, Kopaka, Onua, Pohatu, then Gali. And she's only the last because she looks a little bald compared to her 2015 version's sweet mask.

Oh man, I am loving these sets even more. Can't wait to get creative. Gali may have the best combo model. I feel like, I guess to have a universal attachment point, they're a little lacking in the back. A little flat. And Umarak's arms look like they should be up one module on the Hordika head thing, but otherwise he looks great. It's cool how his mask is tatered/broken at the mouth.
