You could use the spiked hair (I think it came out in black recently, but if not it will soon, for TT Robin in the Jokerland set), or you could use the hairpiece used for Tony Stark, Hal Jordan, and Green Arrow. On a related note, what do you all think of the idea of Green Arrow's hair on Aquaman? I had the hairpiece left over after I turned Green Arrow into The Arrow, and I don't really like Aquaman's current surfer/skater hair.

Another avengers tower (modular conversion)
Silent Nomad replied to thewatchman's topic in LEGO Licensed
Cool use for the Iron Legion racks, and the Batcave screens, and pretty much everything else. I assume you have the comic suit in the display case because, besides being a con suit, it's Tony's first and he wants it on display Hall-of-Armor style? -
I want to try to help, but I can't see any of the pictures. Can you put them on Flickr or somewhere else like that?

When is a custom not a custom...
Silent Nomad replied to nine09nueve's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
I recently constructed a "custom" minifigure that completely copies the one seen in this image in every way but the facial expression: I, personally, don't call this minifigure custom because it was "released" in LB3 first, and the way I see it I simply made a physical form of it where there wasn't one before. Some might call that customizing, though, since I used parts from a Sinestro minifigure and a Batman minifigure to make a new figure that isn't officially available. -
Looking for Precise Print Removal Tips
Silent Nomad replied to Silent Nomad's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
No one is currently selling the torso on its own, so here's the listing for the full minifigure. That HP torso is the one I originally thought of using, before I saw The Lego Nolan use this one from Vern, in the Purist Superhero Figures thread. -
I love that hairpiece for her, and I don't know why they didn't use it. It fits that depiction so much better. I'll have to use that on my own SW minifigure. Edit: I looked it up, and now I know why they didn't use it. It's too old.

Looking for Precise Print Removal Tips

I can't believe I never thought of that, because my family was painting our house not long ago and there was a lot of masking there, so I should be familiar with the concept. Thanks. -
Looking for Precise Print Removal Tips
Silent Nomad posted a topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
I need to take the print of the lower two pockets, and nothing else, off of the below torso for a custom WS civilian Steve Rogers I'm making, but I'm not sure how to go about it. I've heard that pencil erasers work, but I don't know how precise that method would be. I've also heard about Brasso, but I'm not sure I want to buy a whole bottle, even a small one, just for one project. I had the idea of Goo Gone on a Q-Tip, but I'm not sure if that'd work. I'd really appreciate some suggestions from seasoned customizers, since this is my first non-purist custom minifigure. Here's the torso: I'll post the finished minifigure here when I have the rest of the parts. -
Homer Arms on SpongeBob
Silent Nomad replied to Silent Nomad's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
Getting Homer's dress shirt from the Simpsons House is actually cheaper (at $2.23) than getting a whole figure for just one part, and I'd rather play it safe and not use a CMF piece on a non-CMF minifigure. I was planning on ordering more pieces from B&P anyway, so that just added to my order, which is fine. -
Very cool build. Interesting use of the elf staff sword thing for Loki's staff. Interesting choices for his head and hair as well. I like the stiff capes too. I wish Lego would include stiff and soft versions of most of the capes in the sets with caped characters so the buyers can decide which one they want to use. I'm trying to replace my Supergirl and future AoU Thor capes with the stiff versions, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to manage it for my Martian Manhunter or future Vision, which bugs me. -Nomad

Homer Arms on SpongeBob
Silent Nomad replied to Silent Nomad's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
I recently put the arms from the elven archer minifigure on a Green Arrow minifigure as part of a custom Arrow tv show version of Green Arrow. The first arm was very difficult to take off the original torso and put on the new one, but I just chalked that up to it being my first time doing that, because the second one was easier. Edit: I found Homer's dress shirt from the Simpsons House set on Bricks & Pieces, so I'm planning on getting that hoping that the arms from it will work since it's not a CMF torso. -
I found it, and I found one that's basically what the one I shared is except that the other guy switched out the bow too. I still like the one I shared, because there's more green on it.

I watched a youtube video of the Mata Nui Saga recently, and in the comments one guy mentioned how it seemed out of order, so I got the idea to try to rearrange it so the flashbacks were all before the "current" time, to try to make it flow more smoothly. At first I couldn't figure out why the subtitles weren't lining up with the images, because I changed everything the same way, so it should have lined up. A BZPower member suggested that I could re-number the subtitle designations themselves, instead of rearranging the numbers in the main xml file, so I tried that and it works. I think everything looks pretty cool now, and I think it'd make a cool introduction to the G1 story, too. I wanted to know what you guys think, so here it is, and here's the original file for those who don't already have it, so you can compare them. -Nomad

[MOC] Lego Ironmen light up by Liteupblock
Silent Nomad replied to jonathanwilson's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
That's really cool. That'd be a cool way to show him taking off or using his hand repulsor on the ground in a moc. -Nomad -
That'd be a cool way to give Sinestro a better hairpiece like the one he has in the LB2 video game, matching the elf ears to the color of his head and giving him more of a widow's peak.

Homer Arms on SpongeBob
Silent Nomad replied to Silent Nomad's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
I plan on being very careful, and even removing the hands before messing with the arms, so I don't put any stress on the hands and risk breaking them. I already have an arm replacement planned for an unrelated (Green Arrow tv show version) minifigure. -
I was reading a review of the Darkseid Invasion set a few days ago, and in the review the guy decided to remake his Green Arrow minifigure to look more like the Arrow tv show. I thought it looked even better than the official version because, among other things, the official version has bare arms and the actual tv show costume does not, and I recommended that he should post it here, but he hasn't yet, so I'll do it. I plan on making my own copy of the same minifigure in a few days.

Homer Arms on SpongeBob
Silent Nomad replied to Silent Nomad's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
I was just thinking about Homer one time and I thought what other character has a short-sleeved shirt with yellow arms, and I realized Spongebob does, but he never got his sleeves. Out of curiosity I looked at the Simpsons CMF Series 2 listings on Brickset, and it looks like Martin would do as well. I'll probably get him, since the Homer minifigures are a bit hard to find. The only thing I don't know is if CMF arms will fit in a non-CMF torso. I've heard that CMF hands don't fit in non-CMF arms (or maybe that's the other way around), so I don't know about the other fit. -
(I just noticed that the title got cut off. After the / it was supposed to say "shield," with a question mark.) I've been wondering for a while if the part pictured below, used to join Tahu's "lava surfboard" and Kopaka's "frost shield," came in colors that corresponded to the colors of the parts they're used on (silver and white, respectively). I recently looked it up and it turns out that a white one does exist (last used in 2011), and although a "silver metallic" one doesn't technically exist, I was able to find one calling its color "silver" (last used in 2003), which is close enough for me. Given that, I thought I'd pose this question: why do you think the Bionicle set designers didn't use this piece in colors better suited to match the pieces they were used on? I would have preferred if they had, because then the pieces wouldn't be so obvious or contrast so much, and I'll be replacing the piece with a silver one on my Tahu, once I get it. -Nomad

I actually did know about that. I'm a member of BZPower as well (I'm Toa of the Blazing Inferno over there). I haven't really looked at any of it yet, though.

Around mid-March of this year I decided to fool around with the new pdf versions of the LEGO Magazine, specifically the July 2014 issue, found here. I discovered some links in the page's source code that lead to the zoomed-in images of the first three pages, and I realized that those links were the same except for the page numbers. This surprised me, since this isn't usually how LEGO makes links, and I thought that maybe I could replace those numbers with later page numbers, with a view to recreating the Guardians of the Galaxy centerfold found in that issue. This worked, giving me two images to combine into one, which I did, giving me this image: Guardians of the Galaxy Teaser (centerfold from Jul-Aug 2014 LEGO Magazine) by Silent Nomad, on Flickr Then I thought about a website I'd used in the past to basically dissect PDF files, so I took the PDF version of the magazine and separated pages 24 and 25 from the rest with a program that does something similar to one of the things this website does, and ran it through the first website, which showed me two images that I was able to piece back together into this image: Guardians of the Galaxy Teaser (centerfold from Jul-Aug 2014 LEGO Magazine, without extra text) by Silent Nomad, on Flickr I then took that image and did a little editing, which basically consisted of adjusting the ppi (pixels per inch), and cropping just a bit off the top and bottom, which then gave me a 24x36 inch image, which I then made into a PDF file to preserve the size, as well as make it a bit harder to edit, and I finally decided to share that PDF with all of you as well, so here you go. I wanted to share the process I went through to get that poster so I could share my discoveries, as well as the resources I used to make them, so any one of you can do something similar if you find something worth using those methods on. -Nomad

Has anyone tried putting Homer Simpson's arms on a Spongebob minifigure? I recently thought of it because Spongebob has short sleeves in the show and in the MB figures, but not in the LEGO figures, since it was before the time when they started doing that. I'd do it myself, but I only have a Spongebob, no Homer, so I thought I'd ask. I recently discovered that Martin's arms from the upcoming Simpsons CMF Series 2 would work as well, though I opted to get Homer's dress shirt from Bricks & Pieces. Here's an image of Spongebob with the short-sleeved arms, provided by Darkrattyop. -Nomad
