Interesting build, Tomsche! I like the tree with the target on it! That is also quite an idea to use a dwarven ballista for this purpose!
-
Very nice introduction, LittleJohn! All of the builds are very nice and very fitting for Kaliphlin! The pink and purple are interesting for the first build, as are the logs sticking from the walls and the desk on the roof. Nice landscape on the second build! The towers are fantastic on the third build, with the corner technique and the wonderful cross-crenellations. (I like the inclusion of key Kaliphlin figures) The cartographer's house is very nice in the fourth build, especially the observatory and dome. The pattern of log extensions on the side of the jail is very nice! I also like the stonework and the angle to the walls, as well as the windows. This fabulous introduction has me looking forward to more of your builds around the Guilds!

Spring is a wonderful season in Mitgardia. The trees are beautiful against the newly growing foliage. The waves of the sea lap against the sandy beach. Animals come from their winter hibernation and migration as the weather warms and food again becomes abundant. Two swans float gently on the stream flowing into the sea. A mountain ram comes for a drink from the crystal clear water. Frogs and toads can be heard croaking to their companions. Gray weasels scamper about in the trees. Occasionally, a fish leaps from the water, streaking a flash of silver above the sapphire sea. All is calm and quiet… …until suddenly, the waters begin to churn! The stream outlet starts roiling as swarms of fish mob inland, fighting each other to avoid some unknown danger! Ice begins forming along the beach as snow blows in at a rapid pace! Cold air blasts down, freezing everything in its path! Dark storm clouds roll in so fast the fauna barely have a chance to react! The ram turns to run, the frogs and toads flee the waters, the swans take flight, the fish struggle to move further inland away from the freezing waters! On the horizon, white ships come into view speeding quickly in from the Frozen Beyond, their tattered sails driven by the wintery gale! What is causing this unexpected winter weather? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Detail pictures here.

That is a nice set, even though I personally do not own much Technic! There is an amazing level of functionality. I am certainly in support of modifying or freebuilding MOCs using your own creativity!
-
This is amazing! The dragon looks very fantastic, and the smoke and fire effects are just astounding! I do not think I would have the ingenuity or bravery for running a gas line through a LEGO creation and lighting the end on fire!
-
Welcome to Eurobricks, Grosse Kind! Would you care to share your dream set and modifications? I am looking forward to seeing what you build!
-
Welcome to Eurobricks, Kinning! What are your favorite themes? I am looking forward to seeing your collection from the 90's!

changing hands or arms: likely to crack?
Slegengr replied to Cloveapple's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
If you had asked this question pre-2000, I would say that the swaps are not likely to cause cracking, though it does cause increased stress on the parts. I have very few arms cracked from my childhood collection from the 90's, which suffered considerable play. Some torsos cracked, but not very many. Now, though, the plastic that LEGO uses seems to be of much cheaper quality and cracks develop even when not expected. My younger brother had a minifigure that obtained cracked arms, torso, and even head just from carrying it in his pocket while wrapped in tissue paper inside a small mint tin! Much more care seems to be needed now than before, but I have changed arms and hands on some newer minifigures without many issues. As long as you are careful, there may not be issues. I would recommend not swapping arms or hands on any particularly valuable minifigures, though. -
Thanks for the comments! The Snow Elf and Frozen Beyonder were my favorites to build (though all were fun) and they will be used in a future freebuild (that I had intended for a Mitgardian Challenge III build, but ran out of time to complete it...).

Very nice modular of Amortug, Ecclesiastes! The long triangular balcony is excellent, as is the section of wall with the three triangular sides! The interior is well designed and populated to give a perfect throne room/feast hall feeling!
-
Nice series, Hoschiebaers! My favorites are the Drow Assasin, the Orcish Arbalest, the Herbalist, and the Golden Ranger!
-
Nice series, JaseTJ! My favorites are the Wanderer, Kaliphlin Guard Captain, Paladin of Ares, and the Highwayman!
-
Nice series, Venkefedo! I like the cartographer and the Varlyrian Fox!

The Algus Saga: Midsummer in the Clandlands (mead series IV)
Slegengr replied to kabel's topic in Guilds of Historica
Wonderful build, kabel! The house in the hill is well done! I also like the wave technique and the jumping fish! Nice landscaping! I am definitely looking forward to more of the story! -
Nice series and presentation, MstrOfPppts! My favorites are the Elven Scout and the Garra Captain!
-
Nice build, Captain Flint! The style you have developed is very nice, but it does have me wondering what else you can build. This is one of the nicest swamps I have seen and the building and foliage are a perfect fit! My favorite details are the roof ridges and the windows!

Book II - Mitgardia: Guild sign-up and Discussion

My entry for the CMF challenge is up: Now I hope to have more freebuild time! -
Avalonia: Elven Guild Master The Elven Guild Master is one of the richest individuals in all of Avalonia. Using his cunning skills in business and trade, he has improved the economic situation of Avalonia while improving the economic situation of his purse. Do not think him miserly, though. He always reinvests his riches for the betterment of Avalonia and is often found giving aid to those in need. Herbalist Having spent her entire life in the forest glades of Avalonia, the Herbalist knows about every plant around. Learning from her elders and her own experiences, she knows the best cures for any ailment. Throughout different experimentation, she has even found certain flora to cause unusual hallucinations and an irresistible desire to hug a tree… Knight Errant Adventure, gold, glory, and damsels in distress draw the Knight Errant on amazing quests all across the Guilds! His shiny armor offers him protection in a scrape, and his trusty sword and shield give him the edge in any scrap with the scum he encounters. Always travelling, he is never bored, but there are times when he just wishes he could find somewhere to wash his tights. Stinky Stu Growing up in the flower fields of Avalonia has given Stinky Stu a love for things that grow and good tilled earth. Each day, he delves deeper into his research with hybrids to produce the most vibrantly colored and enchantingly scented flowers in the Guilds. These flowers are a hit everywhere, but Stu still cannot figure out why no one ever buys the scented flowers directly from him… Mitgardia: Hunter Ever on the prowl in search of game, the Hunter has spent many an hour in the mountains and rugged lands of Mitgardia. She has learned to know the signs of the presence of any wildlife nearby and is able to quickly determine the best way to catch her quarry. It is well known that she has an unusual ability to hide from animals, and some suppose that this is due to her natural smell from never bathing. Dwarven Warrior Fully armed and filthy, the Dwarven Warrior is a formidable foe on the battlefield, especially when he is defending his homeland of Mitgardia. His trusty axe is always sharp and he certainly knows how to use it! Stouter than stout and braver than brave, no foe has ever yet contended with him, unless you count the time when his wife grew her beard longer than his... he has never lived that down, and you had better not mention it! Frozen Beyonder Not much is known about the Frozen Beyonder, except that his armor is tough, his arms strong, and his weapons of ice are extremely cold! Adventurers have sought to learn more about these frigid creatures, but, thank goodness, they have never been seen south of the northern Mitgardian border. Snow Elf The mysterious race of the Snow Elves live in northern parts of Mitgardia and are completely at home amidst snow and ice. Though not impervious to cold, they are extremely resilient, and most assume that to be due to the warmth of their hearts. Kin to the Woodland Elves, the Snow Elves came into Mitgardia before anyone remembers. Legend tells of their many brave deeds but also of their simple lifestyle. Nocturnus: Drow Guard In the many underground tunnels dug by the Drow, the Drow Guard can be found guarding key passages that lead into unknown territories. Though even many in Nocturnus disown the Drow, the Drow Guard still wears Nocturnian colors for evil Drowish symbolism: Black for midnight darkness hiding, Red for blood of enemies spilt, Gold for treasures bringing fighting, and the weapon’s surface gilt. No one has ever passed a Drow Guard and lived to tell the tale... Orc Farmer Girl Gardening and raising livestock have always been a way of life for the Orc Farmer Girl, as there are always others in need of sustenance. Inglorious is the life of a Nocturnus swamp farmer, but this Orc Farmer Girl dreams of more. Many a passing Orc adventurer has stopped to admire her homely beauty, but she is too finicky to accept the fleeting love of an adventurer. She awaits the day she can present her prize onion to someone special, like the Orc Sentry, the hero on the wall always protecting the innocent swamp farmers. So high, so removed from the swampy muck and mud… Ninja Queen White hair shows age that has brought much wisdom and experience to the Ninja Queen, and this in turn has brought her to the top rank among the stealth warriors in Nocturnus. No one has ever seen the face of the Ninja Queen, be it due to her stealthy movements or her skull-like mask covering her face. No one knows what race she is, but legend has it that she actually is a shadow. Orc Sentry The duty of the Orc Sentry is one of great importance. He must investigate all who seek to pass the wall into his lord’s realm to determine their intents and purposes. Numerous battles have been fought at these walls, in which the Orc Sentry has found much use for his long pike. He must bear the torch at night to keep a keen eye even in darkness. Many days seem uneventful, though, and the Orc Sentry looks across the swamp fields and dreams of a certain Orc Farmer Girl, so beautiful, so down-to-earth, so unattainable… Kaliphlin: Fisherman The southern coasts of Kaliphlin are home to the Fisherman. His trusty hook, line, and sinker have proven useful in making a living providing fish to the citizens of Kaliphlin cities. He has also found that he can make even more money by taking rich aristocrats out for tours to the “best fishing spots”, though he often leaves the very best spots for himself. Driven by need, he has learned to utilize the entire fish, including bones for needles. Learning to sew has been important for repairing his clothing after daring bouts with sharks and seat-of-the-pants hook miscasts. Merchant Offering the finest Kaliphlin goods at the finest prices, the Merchant is a born saleswoman. Knowing how to read people and determine their needs, she uses words and flattery in such a way that you are sure to leave with heavier baggage and a much lighter purse. She is always willing to work a deal fit for your needs, but do not cross her, as she is as quick with her dagger as she is with her tongue and wit. Route Guard The many paths and roads of the Kaliphlin trade routes offer many a temptation to thieves and highwaymen. That is where the Route Guard comes in. All members of the Route Guard are esteemed for their skill with shield and spear and are known for their dedication and bravery. Bearing the symbol of the lion as a representation of their courage and proudly garbed in the colors of Kaliphlin, their regal appearance is enough to warn any vagabond to think twice before raiding trade caravans. Mameluke Though he is a slave, the Mameluke is dedicated to his lord. For his loyalty, the lord has rewarded the Mameluke with a camel to ride into battle, the best means of transportation in the hot sands of Kaliphlin. Since he is also protecting his family from danger, he willingly obeys his lord as he looks forward to the day he earns his freedom. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I hope you enjoy this series! I had a lot of fun coming up with characters and descriptions while trying to make this series as similar to the style of a real series of collectible minifigures as possible. Thanks to Ecclessiastes for such a wonderful way to celebrate the Guilds of Historica Anniversary!

Nice series, mrcp6d! I like the ice mage, Skullcrusher the Lion, the black oil salesman, and the fisherman with his water spider!
-
Spectacular build, Siercon and Coral! The roof is fantastic, as are the walls, angles, windows, and lower stone portion of the structure! The bell tower and bell are nicely done. The waterfall, river, and vegetation are very realistic and perfectly fitting for Avalonia. Nice use of the corrugated flex hoses for multiple purposes!
-
Nice builds and presentation, Lord Vladivus! The army looks realistic and is well positioned! The story and character development is great! I like the micro-Shadowmere, especially the SNOT-brick windows!
