  1. I prefer the larger sets. If you have a bunch of smaller sets to make up the equivalent of a modular building you would have to buy a whole bunch of smaller sets. Then there goes the special pieces and speciial mini figs.. I think that there is just about he right balance of large and small sets right now. Just MHO Andy D
  2. 2012 is not starting off well for preserving my new 2012 motto of " less spending, more building" . I've already spent a bunch at the LEGOland PAB area, Bricklink, eBay and between the mini Modulars getting another Fire Brigade and the new Town Hall last week and wanting another Grand Emporium to make a 16 wide without disassembling my GE. Things are looking expensive this year. Then the peek at the haunted looking house in the TH video. No, things are not looking good for my new motto. I need to read my sig line more often Andy D
  3. Very nice! I am really starting to like the 16 wide modulars more and more. I think you (and others doing the 16 wides) are onto something here, now some of the 32 wides just look imposing. The exterior stairway is great! Great idea to give an uninterrupted area inside without stairs to take up floor space on both floors. Your interiors are great! Some of the health club machines (treadmill, bow flex and rowing machine are right on). The restaurant and nightclub look very detailed, inviting and functional. Brick-on Andy D
  4. I was told no more stock would be arriving in my local LEGO store. If you see it buy it now, before the prices get ridiculous. I bought a second set last Friday for a project. Andy D
  5. Since the whole neighborhood uses one bathroom, maybe the neighborhood should have a three story building that is *just* bathrooms. Andy D
  6. Very nice. As others have Said, more color would be nice. The fan in the manager's office is rather clever, and the security camera as well. Not sure you need to worry about railings around he cubicles as not too many will make it there after the "stairway to heaven" experience. Story very good, robbery and the very alert security guard. Overall, very nice indeed! Andy D
  7. Do the occupants of the DGTH have to go outside to use the neighbor's bathroom, or is there a secret passage? I like the bright green door, it draws attention to the entryway. Great building I look forward to each of your new modulars, you never disappoint. Your modulars are always so detailed, both inside and outside. So many details. Andy D
  8. Very nicely done! I am looking forward to seeing the interiors of both your Fire Brigade and Grand Emporium. They look very nice without being too big. Keep them coming. My only nit is having to follow a link for any photos. I would prefer at least some photos in the post. Andy D
  9. That's amazing. I also estimated between 12-16 GE sets by counting and if only GE sets were used. Looking forward to your next grand construction. Andy D
  10. The GE+ is truly incredible, gives us all something to strive to! How many copies of the GE were required? Any estimate of number of extra parts? Thanks, Andy D
  11. The more I look at these 16 wide modulars, the more I like them. I may have to do some of these after I finish my current project, and after I sort so I can do my current project. Now the only decision... Do I disassemble my modulars and rebuild or just build anew? Tough decision! AwesonmeTaylor -- Do you have plans to do a 16 wide Cafe Corner? Andy D
  12. I'm always curious when I read things like this... Was that $3,000 profit (above what you paid), or a selling price of $3,000? What was the original cost? How many sets did you sell to make the $3,000? Do you do this as a business, or strictly to support your hobby? Andy D
  13. I am a big fan of the Modulars. I also like the smaller Creator buildings. For me the question is not either or, or indifferent, but I believe we need both or all three including the open back houses. They need more, smaller, open back houses for the city/town line to satisfy more price points. I'm not a fan of open back (except for he Winter village sets), but the smaller, less expensive sets are needed to make LEGO more affordable and perhaps bring some folks into the hobby who may have not otherwise been able to afford the price of admission. Andy D.
  14. I hope I don't get in too much trouble for bringing this thread back. I am now in the process of sorting a small (by these standards) collection of about 10,000 to 20,000 or so parts and found this thread an inspiration. Eilif, I was wondering if you managed to keep your collection sorted and still following your sort goals you stated in the first post of the thread. Andy D
  15. This is great! I really like the use of the Emerald Night pieces. The color is perfect with the light grey and mostly white building. The outside is wonderful and it just entices one into the interior which is so detailed and such great stories about what is happening inside each room. Keep on Brickin’ Andy D
  16. This is one incredible building. The shape is very different from what I've seen in LEGO. I really like all the little details that make it more believable, it looks like an actual place. Lots of other details have been noted, but one of the first I noticed were the security cameras. I hope to see more from you soon. Andy D
  17. Pretty accurate.
  18. Very nice! The size is very good, it goes well with your Market Street. I really like your interior, and the floor lamp is very clever. Do you have photos of the interior of the bottom and top floors? Whoops, I just noticed the link to additional photos. The detailing in the garage is good as well, and I like it that you put some detail on the back of the building too. Tan Market street also very nice. Using the Smart car was a good idea, it goes well with the scale. Keep it up! Andy D
  19. Very nice, thanks for the interior photos. It is very interesting, especially the mods to the Cinema. I like the use of the second screen behind the concession stand. Some good ideas here. I don't have two copies of the Town Plan, in fact I only have the Cinema and Town Hall. I like your idea to use the old TH as a museum. Looking forward to more photos of you city as you make changes. Andy D
  20. Can a building which is a stand-alone, I.e., no connection points, be considered a modular if it meets the other two criteria? Andy D
  21. I've been thinking about different building styles and trying to determine what characteristic makes a given LEGO style of building. The Modular buildings I've seen, for the most part can be disassembled and have more than one floor. Can a single story fully enclosed building with a removable roof be considered a modular? Most of the City series buildings just have a facade and an open back. What is the style this type of building? The Creator series buildings are smaller than the Modular series buildings, but on many of them, the roof is removable as a unit. What is this style of building called? Andy D
  22. The two in the middle, or the one on the far right. The overalls with straps remind me of carpenters, the full jump suit with sleves look more like auto technicians to me. Good luck with your decision. Andy D
  23. The problem is not the screen size, it is the size of the border around the screen, but I'm not sire how it could have been made smaller. The actual screen real estate is about right for serious graphics work. Great representation of an iMac G4 (I still have mine, not in use though). Andy D
  24. Great layout! Did you get the interior photos of the cinema yet? I've been considering modding my cinema, and ideas from layouts as nice as yours are always helpful. Thanks, Andy D

Very nice. As others have said, I also like the color combo, and the windows. It took me a moment to realize that it is a sideways 16x32, very clever. Looking forward to the ground floor interior. Andy D
