Not enough time! Usually an hour spread out over the day on EuroBricks. Some time on Bricklink just looking things up. Maybe 2 to 3 hours per week (right now) sorting. Not near enough time building because I like to block off 3 to 4 hours at a time over several days for building and that doesn't happen too often. But I have spent up to 16 plus hours in a week on a big model. So my time varies from 2 hours to 18 hours depending. Andy D

The "never opened MSIB" is just like a stamp or a coin or art collection... Something to look at and I can understand looking at art. But, I too would rather build my LEGO than look at the boxes. Hopefully if you buy it direct from LEGO the set contents are as listed. I can see where you are coming from on the MSIB purchased from the secondary market (eBay, Bricklink, etc.). For all the MSIB collectors who purchase from the secondary market... Hopefully the cat is alive. Andy D

For some people LEGO may not be their hobby. Buying and selling on eBay may be their hobby, and LEGO is what they buy and sell. For them the challenge of seeing if they can make a profit is where they get a thrill out of their hobby. I have absolutely no problem with these people. I have several sets I would not have, because someone buys and sells LEGO on eBay (thank you). As for the amount they ask and sell the sets for... If it is more than I want to pay, I look elsewhere and let someone else pay their price. I have 4 Technic sets that I bought, fully intending to build them, but my interests have changed, so I am now considering eBay to sell them so I can get something else that I may like. If I can make a few dollars that just helps someone who would not otherwise have the set and I can buy more of my new interest. We all approach our hobbies differently whether it is LEGO or collecting stamps or the chase on eBay. Andy D

For AFOL I just say the letters anything else sounds unflattering as something one might call someone who cuts you off on the freeway. For MOC I usually say mock. For LEGO I think what I say usually may sound like Lay Go Andy D

Losing interest in a theme you once loved
Andy D replied to RichardRobins's topic in General LEGO Discussion
When I first started LEGO (2008-2009 in the senior citizen age group) I was mostly interested in Mindstorms and Technic, but I found the Cafe Corner, built it from parts from Bricklink and it all changed. Now I am more interested in more "traditional" LEGO constructions, modulars, buildings and the like. I also really like the Creator buildings. Now I have to decide what to do with the 4 unopened large Technic sets that I've not yet built, maybe eBay. Andy D -
I don't collect MSIB per-se. That said, I do have 20 or so sets still in boxes. The reason for this is, when I see sets I like, I know that if I do on buy them while they are available it will cost much more later. Many sets I get on sale, some I get first day or soon there after, just to make sure I don't forget. I have no problems with people who buy multiples and sit on them to sell later. I have several sets that are from a few years ago, and if someone had not bought them and sat on them only to sell later I would not have them. Two instances where I really wanted a set but could not find them at a reasonable price was the Cafe Corner and the Green Grocer. I ended up getting most of the parts on Bricklink (still spent more than I would have liked) and in some instances I substituted a part of a different color than was original so I could complete the model. To me it is not always about the original color but the design and a pleasing color. Some folks like to collect things, either parts or sets, some people even collect coins or stamps. Collecting parts or unopened sets is kind of like collecting coins stamps, art or whatever, everybody approaches and gets satisfaction out of their hobby differently . Me, I find LEGO relaxing while building. I like to build sets, some I keep assembled quite awhile, some I only keep assembled a short time before I part them out for other projects. I am still somewhat new to LEGO, so I still learn quite a bit from building sets so I will be able to incorporate the techniques into my own creations. Oh yeah, I don't keep the empty boxes, they were just the container, though there is some great art on the boxes, just no room. Andy D

This entire build is just incredible! I really like the organic feeling of the trees and shrubbery. I am currently looking for close-ups of brick built trees to learn more about making organic constructions from little square and angular elements. Keep on doing wonderful constructions like this! Your favorite part of building a set?
Andy D replied to 1980-Something-Space-Guy's topic in General LEGO Discussion
This is the most enjoyable part of most any build. I try to learn something from every build, and I usually do. Andy D -
Very, very nice. Is it modular construction, or just modular look? Thanks for sharing this great MOC. Andy D

This is a great idea! I've been wanting to use my iPad for LEGO build ideas. What stylus do you recommend? Thanks, Andy D

Pharaoh's Quest: Some folks feel that Egypt is done, but I believe there is still room for more in Egypt. Others have mentioned India... That sounds great as well. Ankor Wat would be terrific! Andy D

Just one word... Amazing! Looking forward to seeing more of your creations. Andy D

I've not seen a price difference between LEGO Stores and LEGOland CA (LLC) but there are some models that you may not find at LLC and a few smaller items that I've seen at LLC not at LEGO stores. I pay the same sales tax both places. Actually with the 10% Discount at LLC is better than at the LEGO stores with the VIP points. I like to look for sales and discounts anywhere and I try to avoid paying full list price whenever possible (get more that way). Andy D

This is just great! I've not even built mine yet (still sitting in the box, just no time yet). I'm tempted to buy another based on these photos. I really like the double town home. Great work! Andy D

I use the Akron Mills for studded LEGO, and the Plano fishing tackle boxes like this one which has adjustable dividers for my Technic, although I may start using the Plano for some of my studded LEGO as well. Andy D

The more I look at this, the more amazed I am! First the corner MOD, the the addition of the GE and the GG. This really gives me something to shoot for. Thanks for sharing this. Andy D

Very nice build Leanne. I am considering my first modular type MOC. I have been experimenting with LDD, but it seems very time consuming. I may do a combination of LDD and prototype. How long did it take yo to design the building in LDD? I really like the entire build, but I notice the windows on the roof, it looks like they may be hinged, do you have a photo with the windows open? I also am interested in seeing your LDD file to see how you handled the floors in LDD. Andy D

Thanks for the info on dividers. What thickness of sheet plastic do you purchase? Thanks, Andy D

I finally decided to commit to the Akron Mills system for storage as well. I have one of the 44 drawer and one of the 24 drawer (same physical size as the 44 drawer except all drawers are the larger size) and I just ordered one more of each today. I find that I need to divide the drawers frequently. They only include a few of the dividers for each size drawer. On Amazon they have a pack of 6 dividers for large drawers for $7 ($1.16 each) and the small ones are a pck of 16 for $9 which is a better price, but I feel still too much for what it is. Has anyone decided to make their own dividers? What did you use to make them? How did you make them? Any info will be helpful. Thanks, Andy D

I just got this model at my local LEGO store. I probably won't have time to build for a month or so. Is the stability issue on the external fuel tank only when disconnecting the fuel tank or is also an issue just when displaying? Has anyone contacted LEGO about the problem before building? Thanks, Andy D

I am looking forward to building as well. It is just sitting in the box in my LEGO room. Just no time. Maybe next week. BTW: I think one photo per step Is fine. One per brick would take all the fun out of the build. Thanks for posting this. Andy D

Just feed the URL of the review into Google translate at http://translate.google.com/ and it will be available in your native language. I did it for English an it worked out well. Hope this helps. Andy D

I like your stop motion video. How often did you take a photo? It appears that you might have taken a photo after each step or maybe two. I am looking forward to the remainder of your videos on the Pet Shop. Andy D

I have had excellent service from Dad's AFOL Supplies in so. California, USA. Fast shipping, good prices, discounts for repeat customers. I look there and at Brick Artist Depot first. Andy D

I found one on YouTube. Just search for LEGO toilet. There is also a bathtub, sink and shower. I hope this helps. Andy D
