Which forum does my MOC/topic belong in?
Andy D replied to Stormbringer's topic in Forum Information and Help
Thanks Darkdragon. That's what I orginally thought. I will post when I get time on Sunday. Edit: Rats! I didn't get time to post yesterday, but I will post as soon as I get time. Now I am back to the "real" as opposed to the "vacation" world I must manage my time. First I must select some photos, then post. Andy D -
Which forum does my MOC/topic belong in?
Andy D replied to Stormbringer's topic in Forum Information and Help
While on a 15 day cruise from Los Angeles to Hawaii with 10 at sea days I made a MOC of a desert oasis shop. It is a carpet shop on the ground floor, a coffee shop (16x16) on the top floor and a open air market place to the left (also 16x16). All on a 32x32 baseplate. My inspiration (among others) was the Market Street. It is built to modular scale, it is a stackable. It uses parts from two 7573 and one 7571, plus one 32x32 baseplate and it has a mideast flair. Should it go in the Town forum (because of the modular design) or the Licensed forum because it is built from parts only from the 7573 and 7571? Or perhaps somewhere else. I took photos of it while in my stateroom, but due to the very, very, very (did I mention how slow) slow internet connection on board the ship I will not post photos until Sunday after we get home. Oh, yeah we had a great time in Hawaii, but I didn’t get to a LEGO store there ;) Thanks, Andy D -
Very nice, I really like the fact that it has 4 walls. I don't care for open back, and I am working on modding my winter village sets to be completely enclosed. Your church looks like it should be in the alps or some mountain area. As for the size, I know from experience that it is hard to make a small church with all the details. Great church, great details! Andy D

10220 VW Camper Van - Sort pieces before building?
Andy D replied to grovyggg's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I'm still formulating an opinion on this. I have tried sorting bigger sets and I usually sort by color and then by type, bricks and plates and then by size and function. The sorting takes quite a bit of time, but in the end I become familiar with the parts in the set and any unusual parts and have time to study them. I have also tried just opening the bags and putting each bag in a separate container. No matter which sorting technique I use the Gladware entree size plastic container to sort into and I use another container to gather pieces for each step before building the step, I find this helps me keep organized step by step if I have all the parts for each step ready before beginning to assemble the step. Still trying to decide if sorting vs just dumping each bag is better. I still try either depending on my inclination for the day. Good luck... Andy D -
I am also looking for inspiration for a Winter Village church. Do you have the URL of the church of the church you saw? Andy D

I plan to get my collection of bricks organized (already started) and build more to use some of those parts to build MOCs and build some of my unopened sets to reduce the number of unopened boxes in my closet and get some of the better sets and new MOCs displayed. This also means that I have to get some display space installed to appropriately display the constructions. Someone remind me of this post next December to see how well I did! Andy D

I just saw the interiors. Great! I'm liking this modular more and more. Sign me up for 2! BTW: Notice the movie title " Forver Sorting"? Looks like someone undertands the plight of the AFOL. Andy D

I just noticed the roof access, very clever! Forgot to mention roof treatment... Also very nice and interesting. Overall, great building! Very clever use of clear elements for windows, I may have to use that someday. I don't think you would have to tear down too much to add some color, maybe just some of the trim, or a maybe stripe between floors. Andy D

It looks like a good Photoshop of info on this URL (URL came out garbbled in "quick reply") Go to the LEGO.com main page and select the "Shop" button. Other items and prices even the same, in the same location on the page. Good job! I am very happy with the style of the building. Such an iconic design. I only hope (pipe dream, I know) they have hand and footprint tiles like the origial in Hollywood, CA. I look forward to adding this to my collection. Andy D

USA Today Video/Article on LEGO investing
Andy D replied to legotrader's topic in General LEGO Discussion
LEGO might be hot for profiteering right now, but if LEGO produces more sets and the folks buy them and more folks think this is a good idea, pretty soon there will be more people trying to make money off of LEGO that there will be a flood of sets availble on the secondary market and pretty soon nobody is making any money off the LEGO collectable craze, as faefrost just mentioned about the comic book craze. I really wouldn't want to even think of funding my retirement with LEGO or comic books or any other sudo investing fad that happens along. To the folks trying this, good luck, but I hope they know when to get out. Andy D -
I like the style of the building. I like the windows, front and back. I like the different texture interest pieces. But it looks a little too much same color and shade, I would like a contrast color somewhere to add additional interest. I hope this helps. Andy D

Wow! I did not see this coming. I expected an Art Deco or Town Plan-ish cinema. I really like this one though and I will be getting one or two. Thanks for the photo. Where on the LEGO site did this show up? Now just waiting for the release video...LEGO - Hurry, hurry! Thanks, Andy D

Not taking the boxes, just the bags. Also, we do not have to fly to the port city, so extra suit cases are not a problem. The only reason I am taking 2 is because I have a MOC planned and I want to make sure I have all the parts I need. Yeah, I know I could challenge myself to use a smaller quantity of parts, but the 10 "at sea dys" have me concerned about boredom. When we go on a cruise it usually for he ports, not the "at sea days". Surpriingly my wife doesn't think I'm nuts with my LEGO building plans for the trip. I'll post my results when I return in mid January. Andy D

Great MOCs/MODs! Your city is teriffic. The walkway between the Midevil bldg MODs to the church reminds me of the Gothic Quarter in Barcelona. I really, really like your church as well. It also brings back memories of a church I saw in Barcelona (Santa Maria del Mar). Andy D

I figured a way to work on my backlog. My wife and I are going on a 14 day cruise for New Years, that's 10 "at sea days" with no ports, and I don't do trivea contests or learn napkin folding or shuffle board (bored). So I've decided to take a couple of sets waiting to be built and build, then MOC. that should occupy some of those 10 "at sea days" I recently put together the PoP 7571, Fight For The Dagger and was liking the colors so much that I decidecd to take the 7573, Battle of Alamut (well 2 copies) and do a MOC with them. Wish me luck with all the motion of he ship! Andy D

Most sets are MSRP. Some sales, sometimes. Ten percent (10%) with certain LEGOland annual passes. Missing some sets that are LEGO Store Exclusives. Andy D

Very nice! I like the round structure of the castle and I like the inner round structure, it gives it a feeling of layers of defense. Andy D

I guess I'm not a target aduience for web advertising, because I usually don't even see it or pay any attention to it. The one thing I did notice on another forum was targeted Amazon advertising, then I learned to avoid it I just make sure I sign out of Amazon. Eurobriks needs to make money somehow, I do hope their adds do payoff and help pay the bills. Another forum I used to frequent had both paid and free service. For paid you got add free, for free you got adds, your choice. Andy D

I have a big old tub of invisible LEGO, most of us do. Only one little problem, I can't see them to build anything, so they just sit, gathering invisible dust. BTW: The airplane is really good! Just A few more cheese slopes and it will be great! Andy D

I guess I'm lucky, because my wife helps me carry my boxes to the register for check-out. The only thing she questions, and it is mostly a joke is the pile of yet to be built sets I have. Lucky, lucky me! Andy D

End of the World: The road to the end of the world
Andy D replied to toutouille's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
This is terrific! I really like the concept of the road ending at the end of time and the world. Great image that the road is ending into. Andy D
