  1. Very nice! Some of the little things really go a long way, the landscaping textures and he path are stand-outs. The close association of the shack and tree are also well done. Andy D
  2. Does meeting a very shy, withdrawn EB member at a LEGO store count? I was at a LEGO store and tried to talk him, but he just wasn't very talkative, maybe he was just preoccupied. Andy D
  3. Very, very nice. I was saddened to read that it will be broken up. At least you had the joy of the design and sourcing of be parts. Good luck ith your move and future LEGO adventures. Andy D
  4. Amazing, just flat out amazing! So much detail in such a large project. With each photo I saw I thought it could not get any better, but it did, each photo seemed to contain more amazing details than the previous. As a previous poster said that he could write thousands of words, I am not sure I can find all the words necessary. Among my favorite details is the Emerald Night, but there are just so many, many. Thanks for sharing this, it gives us something to strive to. Andy D
  5. Vey nice, lots of clever elements here... The shake roof is nice. I like the furnishings and the brick built door. The wall design is also very interesting, and I also like the garden. Overall, very nice! Andy D
  6. I don't think most Bricklink sellers make money on postage. Shipping is just expensive, and in many cases the seller has to purchase shipping materials as well. As an example I recently sold some Technic sets (big one's) and the packaging and shipping costs to me were around $100. Fortunately the buyer agreed to pay half the shipping costs (around $80) but, I still had to pay the packing costs, thus cutting into what I received for the sale of the sets (which was below market value). Some sellers on eBay do seem to make money on shipping, but I have not yet had that experience with Bricklink. On eBay I just watch shipping charges and factor it into the total cost, if it is too much, it is too much. If the cost of the item including shipping is in my range that I feel the item is worth I will pay the price, if not then I don't purchase. I feel that there are more reputable vendors on Bricklink than on eBay, and prices are usually better on Bricklink. Andy D
  7. I can't believe how many of these apply to me! Anyway, the ones that most apply to me are... ... See a structure and think, I could build that out of LEGO. ... Have a room dedicated to LEGO. ... Buy parts on PaB or Bricklink because you think they "may" be useful with no idea how you plan to use them. ... Buy sets for a few interesting parts, then don't part he set out, just because... (fill in the blanks, we've all got our excuses, er valid reasons) ... Have a stack of unopened lego sets, keep buying more, even if you had time to build them all you would not have room to display them. ... Have to keep buying storage containers for loose pieces and you are running out of room in your closet in your room dedicated to LEGO. ... Took LEGO sets on a cruise with your wife to part out and build a MOC, then did it. (I just did that). Regularly attend 12 step program meetings dedicated to LEGO addiction. Remember, the first step is addmiting you have a problem... But, none of us have a problem with LEGO, we can quit anytime we want, we just don't want to quit. And this is why 12 step programs dedicated to LEGO addiction do not exist (do they?) Andy D
  8. Very nice! I really like the courtyard, especilly yhe corner windows. The roof/window detatiling is also nice. The use of 1x1 rounds as rchitectural detils is also very clever. OveralI I really like it, I may "borrow" the courtyard idea sometime. Andy D
  9. I got one today as well! I did not get an invite to the "Black Friday" event last year, so I must not be one of the biggest spender's. The chrome-red mini is really nice and like others, I have no intention of selling it. I would like to use it sometime, but I'm not sure I want to disassemble the keychain. Andy D
  10. I am currently looking and have been looking for over a year for some shelves to display my LEGO projects. The other day I saw an AFOL LEGO display on a free standing smoked glass shelf unit with chrome or brass tubes for support. It looked to be about 5 feet long, and several shelves, maybe like a credenza or room divider. Now I can't remember where I saw it and I can't find it again. It looked very open, which is what I need as if I get something too solid I will make my studio look very cramped and closed in. Has anyone else seen this? If I could find the picture again my wife could help me find something like it (two people serching better than one). Any help much appreciated, Andy D
  11. Well done! Lots of decorative details. I really like the church square. It got me to thinking, we don't see a church square often in the USA, and in Europe the churches are often in the middle of things and are the center of activity as the cities and towns are built up around them, so a church fits in well right downtown. Overall I really like it and I am looking forward to interior shots. Andy D
  12. Your library is great! I hope you can complete the entire "Clue" mansion, it would make a wonderful place for a reenactment of he Clue movie/game in LEGO stop motion or just a series of photos. Andy D
  13. On occasion there are sales, but they may or my not have the items on your list on sale. You might try looking at WalMart and Toys 'R Us and Target strores adds online to see what they have at a given time. Good shopping, Andy D
  14. Welcome to California! You seem to be aware of the LEGO brand stores. One not to be miss is the LEGO store in Downtown Disney in Amaheim. The Big Store in Legoland is also good, and sometimes they even have sales. Both places normally have many sets but they usually sell at LEGO suggested retail price. As for Pick a Brick. There is a shop in Legoland that sells LEGO bricks by the pound, not really cheap, but. i usually find a pretty good selection. The Pick a Brick wall in the Downtown Disney store is usually prettg good a well, they sell by the PaB cup roughly $8 or a small and $16 for a large. CA does have a sales tax added to the price, as for claiming the CA sales tax when you leave the country... Don't know. Have a great time in So. California. Andy d
  15. Don't normally like to respond to my own posts, but I don't need to do this anymore. I created a BaseBrick account and it does all I wanted to do with Peeron and more. Andy D
  16. Wow! I just tried BaseBrick. Thanks to Chorduroy for suggesting this, thanks to MarcoB for his hard work on making BaseBrick what it is. I set up an account, and in under 10 minutes I imported my sets and parts list from Peeron and was actually using it. I was able to see a list of my parts, see how many of each I have and where they are. This is great! I can now go shopping for parts for MOCs in my own inventory of sets. If you want to get organized, use BaseBrick! (see my motto for 2013, BaseBrick is a big help to achieving this) Andy D
  17. I don't know how many stores, I would have to say, it depends. As for cheaper... It my be a lot of work, but you might want to get a good list of parts, stores and prices, then compre to what it would cost to just buy it. I found I spent almost $100 more through Bricklink with individul parts, vendors and shipping than it would have cost tat that time to just buy the st from eBay, an Amazon reseller, or a Bricklink store that had the complete set. Bricklink individual parts for a set is not always cheaper than buying the set, but it is fun to go through the process. I found a lot of great vendors that I still use today with the experience. Andy D
  18. Thanks for the info. I will try this. Andy D
  19. This is pretty much what happens to me. I go looking for specifec bricks and such, then run across parts tht look interesting or useful and well, that's it, I go on a buying spree. Andy D
  20. I am attempting to get a handle on my inventory of sets and parts. I set up a Brickset account, but it only lists sets, not indiviual parts. I then found that I could export my sets info to a Peeron account, so I did that. I now find that there are numerous sets I have for which Peeron has no set inventory, so I am left with holes in my parts inventory. Then I found that Peeron has an inventory submission process and that one of the input formats is Bricklink XML. Is there a problem with me exporting the Bricklink XML and submitting the set info to Peeron? Andy D
  21. I don't know about he saving money part, except on sets that are out of production an can only be had on he secondary market for very high prices. What I did when I was building the Cafe Corner and Green Grocer via Bricklink was to shop various vendors to find who had the most parts that I needed, then order from them and then try to find the rest of the parts in quantity in as few stores as possible. There is a way to make a "wanted list" in Bricklink but I have not tried it and do not know the advantage, maybe someone else can speak to that Hope this helps, Andy Ad
  22. I am looking for a better way to inventory my parts. I have a number of sets, still in boxes that I bought primarily for the parts. Most of them I may build once just to learn what can be learned. But I really want to know where my parts are! What I have done so far is to enter my sets into Brickset. What a surprise in terms of number of parts I have just waiting to be used, and what I spent on them. Then I exported my sets to Peeron and deleted the sets from my Peeron inventory that have been assembled or parted out for other purposes, so now in Peeron I just have sets listed that are still in boxes. What I want to do is to be able to look at a list of my parts, then from the list see what sets contain those parts. Peeron does this to some degree, but Peeron does not have inventory for all the sets, most that are missing inventory for sets that are 1-3 years old. So I have a good list of all my unopened sets in Peeron, but not all my parts contained in those sets. I also have a copy of Brickstore for Mac OS X that I have not explored fully, but it appears that it is intended for Bricklink integration for sellers. So, any ideas about how to accomplish what I am trying to do? In case what I am asking got lost, here is what I want... I want to look at a list of my parts, select the parts I want to use and be able to find what of the sets I own contain those parts and in what quantity. Thanks for any help, Andy D
  23. Like others, I also have never heard of this Starfighter, but it is very nicely done. When I first saw it it immediately remind me of the 1936-1937 P 38 Lightning, a WW II fighter airplane. Kind of shows... The more things change, the more they stay the same. Your starfighter is great! Andy D
  24. Instantly recognizable without introduction. Good stuff! Nice balancing act. Andy D
  25. Very nice. Lots of little details, and I really like he color combination. Good luck Andy D
