  1. This is very nice! Now all I need is a minifig scale Tardis to put it in. Maybe I will do that. Thanks for the console. Andy D Oh, yeah Dr Who. 500 posts.
  2. Very nice! A real contender. I like the modern servo. The only confusing thing for me is the gasoline prices, I looked at it and thought tha I had not seen prices like that in 30 years, then I realized that you are fom France, so that would be price per litre, not price per gallon. I really like all the little details, and as someone else said... "great use of pistols for dispensing nozzles". Just one example of the innovation in your MOC. I can't get over all the details and attention to detail... I believe this S/B a real winner. Andy D
  3. Wow! Very nice. Reminds me of a sailing/steam ship merged with a castle, then some future tech to make it float. Nice colors, design and implementation. Andy D
  4. Very, very impressive combination of a building and natural landscape. Good luck in the contest. I believe this should be a real contender. Andy D
  5. Wow! Do you alway build on such a small table? I must say, I am impresed, I know I would have a very, very difficult time building in a confined tabletop such as that. Andy D
  6. Welcome to EB. I never thought of LEGO as being "open-source" but that is a good way to look at the collaboration that goes on here on EB, building on the inspiration of others creations and the sharing of ideas on how to build better. I think that is one thing that makes this community such a fun and valuable place. Andy D
  7. Does anybody here know how LEGO determines what parts go in what bag? It seems pretty random to me, as I seem to remember finding the same part-type in several different bags. I have not discovered the logic behind LEGO's organization. Seems the only way I can see the logic or part organization is when I organize them. Thanks, Andy D
  8. Sounds interesting. What tool do you use to buff with? (Dremel or other) Thanks, Andy D
  9. Great! Do you have photos? Yeah, what to do with the base plate? Well, maybe I will use it in something. Thanks, Andy D
  10. When you and the wife discuss some new furniture for your LEGO studio and you wind up deciding to rip the room down to the painted walls, put in built-in cabinets and a built-in work table and carpet around them. You get an estimate and it looks like it will cost a boat-load and she has to talk you into it. I guess I'm the fan of LEGO, and she's the fan of me. Oh, yeah, the computer will take up too much build space on the table, so you also need a new laptop. The only bad thing is my studio will be torn up and out of comission for a couple of weeks (bummer). Andy D
  11. The minifigs in your city are very fortunate to have such a wonderful art gallery! I really like all the detils, I am sure it will take many visits to the gallery to see all that is here, I know I can't see it all in one visit. Wonderful, keep up the great work! Andy D
  12. Yeah, I've checked and rechecked. I did find a couple of easy examples of the extras tht would be used used in the alternate builds, not used in the main build. Andy D
  13. I BL'ed a GG. A couple of years ago. At the time it cost me more to buy parts than a set, but now I think BL would be more cost effective way to get a GG. I seem to remember substituting some more expensive parts for close matches, not a bad wy o go unless you happen to want an exact and not a close mth. Good luck, fun project. Andy D
  14. Sorry, I have been out of the loop, Technic-wise, not familiar with the 9398. I was just commenting on what I thought was a neat feature in this one. Thanks, Andy D
  15. This is very interesting. If I am looking at it correctly, I assume that part. 2 (A Test of Strength) is the result of construction in Part 1. Is that correct? Nice... Andy D
  16. Welcome! Fifteen years with LEGO! Great, I hope it lasts you a lifetime. Yep, good place to practice English, although it looks like you are doing very well now. See you around the forum, Andy D
  17. Wow! That is really nice. Looks like the front and rear could be independent, could make for some interesting steering options. Great colors and design. Andy D
  18. Welcome... From your intro I thought it was an intro into a 12-step program (a USA thing?). At meetings it usually starts with "Hi I'm Jim, and I'm a (fill in the blank) ...aholic. Well, most of us here are LEGOaholics here (me too), so welcome, I hope to see you around on the forum. Andy D
  19. Seems there is interest in BL'ing the GG as well, why not a new thread to help keep things more organized and easier to find? Andy D
  20. This does sound like fun. Maybe the stacking would help keep the parts together and reduce space requirements. Thanks, I will try that (too late for this week's build) sometime. Building with a "free range kitty-cat" on the loose. I can only imagine the challenges/dificulties. We've not had a cat for several years and not since I got serious about LEGO. My wife used to like to do large puzzles and one of our cats used to love to make it difficult by "stealing" pieces in the middle of the night, drove my wife nuts until she happened to see the little thief once. Then she started covering the puzzle with a table cloth, but that only worked to a degree, once the loveable cat pulled the table cloth off and the whole puzzle wound up on the floor. The cat was a little thief, so my LEGO building with her around would have been a real challenge, not sure which would have survived... The cat, my hobby, or my sanity. Thanks for the idea about laying the parts out... Sounds like fun. Andy D
  21. Do you regret buying the GG, or not getting the CC? Andy D
  22. Fresh off of my build of the Scoripion Pyramid a couple of weeks ago and in a continuing effort to reduce my backlog of "sets in the closet" I decided to build another set this week. It was between a modular (yeah, I have several "in the closet") and a Creator house (got a couple of those as well). I didn't want to commit to a modular as for me that's an 8 to 10 hour build, not ready for that right now. After looking at what was available, again considering size and colors I decided on the 6754 Family Home. It was really a fun build and as usual I learned a few things (Creator sets really seem to teach me). I spread the build over three days (Mon, Tues, and today, Wed). I really like the result and it will be hard to consider parting it out, but part it out I will (at some point). Though I may consider one of he altenate builds (the Mediterranean House) before putting the parts in inventory. I noticed something very unusual... There are a large number of extra parts. There is the usual assortment of 1x parts but it seems like more than usual, maybe a couple of dozen. It is the other parts that surprise me... In tan there are... 6 - 2x12 bricks 1 - 2x3 bricks 1 - 1x2 brick 1 - 1x3 brick 1 - 1x6 brick 1 - 1x1x6 brick In a dark grey 1 - 2x6 brick 1 - 2x6 white plate And a light grey 1x2 slope Seems like a large number of extras, the only thing I can think of is that they are required in one of the alternate builds. But I thought LEGO usually uses fewer parts in the alternte builds. Is this normal for this set? Andy D
  23. Looks good with your town, though I suspect it would look more integrated as a 2 story building. I forgot to mention in my first post that I really like your new movie posters a well. I think you may have strted something, now I am considering modulariing my Town Plan Cinema. Andy D
  24. A couple of weeks ago I decided to start building some of the sets I had that were just waiting to be built. I looked at the time I had, the sets I had, the size of the sets and the colors in the set. Well, for size and color the Scorpion Pyramid won out. I really just wanted to assemble it to learn what I could learn before parting it out into my inventory (which is why I bought it in the first place). The build was interesting, but I was not really satisfied with the resulting structure. I realize that I was not the target audience for this set as it is more of a play-set rather than a display model. The build was fun and I did learn some things, but the overall look of he pyramid left me cold. What I really did not like was the back sides of the pyramid being made from plates rather than slopes like the front and front sides. I realize that using slopes could have made the set cost more and turning away some of the target audience as a result. I thought of BLing the slopes to make it like I wanted it but after checking the cost I decided the money could be used for other sets and it wouldn't make it into something I would keep anyway, so I decided against it. Another reason I would not keep it is that it is open back and I am for the most part not a fan of open back. So I took it apart to make room to build something else. Now today I started to think (even though the parts are now in a box) ... How about a full pyramid?... Maybe I would like that? Well, the baseplate is not made so that I could make a full pyramid as the resulting structure would turn out wider than deep, so maybe not. Still I am interested... I got to wondering if anyone has seen a fully enlosed pyramid on the 7327 baseplate? Maybe I will look further into it from a cost and can it be done on the baseplate standpoint. Thoughts? Andy D
  25. It amazes me how popular this thread continues to be! It seems that one of the first things new AFOLs do is BL a Cafe Corner (that's what I did). Now forever hooked on modulars. I BL'ed my CC before this thread started, I do wish it could have been around then, lots of very useful info here. One of the best (I feel) is to subtitute some less expensive parts for some of the more rare/expensive parts. I stll don't have the birds in the windows, though I've been thinking bout just using some lbley 1 by rounds, from a distance it will look about he same. Good luck to all still BLing your CC! Andy D
