  1. I plan to get the Opera House as a parts pack not for the uniqueness of parts as they are mostly comon, but for the quantity. There are several baseplates A quantity of black slopes of various types A quantity of tiles in various sizes and colors The quantity of various types of dark tan from bricks to plates. There are not a lot of unique parts, but for me it is the volume vs. price if you subtract the Bricklink price for the baseplates (about $32) the price per part is pretty good, about $0.075 US$ per part. Just MHO, YMMV Andy D
  2. I really don't care for specialized apps to view special sites. I use Safari on my iPad or iPhone and it works well. Also whn using a custom app, I am not sure how following links to other non-forum sites would work. In short I would prefer to use Safari and have he forum just scale to he browser be it tablet, phone or computer. Just MHO, YMMV Andy D
  3. In addition to the sets suggested by Cwetqo and Redhead1982 I sugget the... 9474 Battle of Helms Deep. Lots of light and dark grey. I know some will think it strange, but... 10234 Sydney Opera House... Lost of different dark tan and several baseplates. Andy D
  4. I really like set 1. Not a fan of set 2 as I just don't have a need for vehicles. In set 2 I do like the handtruck, just not he actual truck. Set 1 will go nicelt in my Christmas display, maybe even the guy pushing and the handtruck from set 2. Andy D
  5. Just today, I opened my Vampyre Castle. I hope to be able to build it between today and tomorrow. I should receive another Vampyre Castle tomorrow, going to somehow join them and make a larger Vampyre Castle. I am going to try to get a jump on Halloween this year. I have ll the MF sets except the Ghost Train. I hope to make a coherrent Halloween display with them. Off to build... Andy D
  6. It really seems to me that this is just starting the sorting and storage thread all over again. There is so much, very useful info in the other thread already, not sure if I see the point to starting it all aver again (maybe I am missing something here). There is an entry in the other thread by ShaydDeGrai that I feel has a great description of be sort/store dillema described very well. See... http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=26213&st=825#entry1653595 IHTH Andy D
  7. Thanks for the info. I seem to remember numerous WIP threads and I would really like to see how your castle progreess, so... Do start a WIP thread. BTW: be sure to PM me when you do I don't want to miss it. Andy D
  8. I really like this! I like good Steampunk, and this is good Steampunk! So much to like, but I am particularly drawn to the hands and feet. Can we peek behind the curtain? Meaning, do you have any pictures of he back? Keep it up, looking forwrd to more of your Steampunk. Andy D
  9. Very nice! I will be watching as you complete it! Is this from the 9468 Vampire Castle? Thanks for sharing this. Andy D
  10. As Paul B said... This varies a lot, but... 1. I spend at about 4 hours per day on forums, research and design. Unfortunately my building is only about 8 hours per week divided over two days. 2. Spending is another variable... I but I buy bricks and parts from pick-a-brick, bricklink and eBay. I buy sets from LEGO (online and in stores), I also buy sets from Amazon, eBay and Bricklink. Trying to figure out how much... Nah, I don't really want to total that up. Total sets purchased last year (all sizes) was about 25 (though some wrre gifts). Andy D
  11. Has anyone seen any examples of combining 2 castles to make one large one? I am going to build one copy this weekend and I have another copy on the way. If I can determine a way to make it a modular build so I can add the other that would be ideal, otherwise I may have to disassemble and combine. After reading about difficulties moving I may look at building it on a 48x48 grey baseplate. Thanks, Andy D
  12. Gee! Is he a participant of this forum? If not, get him involved I need more of my contemporaries here. Andy D
  13. If LEGO is only for kids, then there are a lot of "old" kids in his world. Recently we had a 60th birthday party for my sister-in-law. It was mainly family and friends. Her age should give you an idea of my age and the age of most of the attendees. My wife wanted to show them what we did with my "studio" (LEGO room). We showed them the new built-in cabints and desk and shelves (a pretty extensive remodel), but all the wanted to look at was the LEGO. The were amazed, they kept saying "wow, this is LEGO?" and "you nailed that chapel, I've been there." LEGO may be a toy, but I consider it the "Ultimate reuseable art medium". So no matter wheither you use LEGO to express you artistic side, or just play, LEGO has something for all ages, 3 to 103 (or more). I plan to make LEGO my main hobby/artistic exercise well into my retirement (comming soon, very soon). People who say LEGO is just for kids may just be uncertain about their own maturity. Keep on building (and playing with if you want). Andy D
  14. Very nice. I find the music OK, but like Doc_Brown I would also like to hear the sounds of the GBC part of the time. Some music is OK, but some sounds of the GBC would be great also. What functions is the NXT performing besides driving one of the motors? Overall, great! Andy D
  15. Thanks, that is very nice. But before I saw your post I had ordered (and received) the Mary and another complete Nativity from iMinifigures.com. Thanks for the link, I still plan to look into the Bride as wll. Andy D
  16. Sounds good, but how does one contact you? Andy D
  17. I like Bricklink at Bricklink.com. It took me awhile to learn to use Bricklink (still learning), but the selection is, well almost any brick made. I hope this helps. Andy D
  18. 1. Get my LEGO inventory organized. 2. Get my LEGO inventory cataloged so I know what I have. 3. Get my storage system organized so I can keep it organized when I disassemble a model and put the parts back in my inventory. 4. Be able to find the part(s) I need so that it is the least time consuming activity when I build. 5. Spend more time building than I do organizing. (this depends on having a good system) This appears to mirror my 2013 goal/plan, but this is actually my life-long LEGO plan. Andy D
  19. Thre is a gret pdf on building techniques at http://joncraton.org/media/files/UnofficialLEGOAdvancedBuildingTechniquesGuide.pdf And a book at Amazon, The Unofficial LEGO Builder's Guide http://www.amazon.com/Unofficial-LEGO-Builders-Guide-Color/dp/1593274416/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1377135981&sr=1-1 I learned a lot from both. I hope this helps. Andy D
  20. Very sleek, very modern, wonderful house! Wonderful integration of studless and studded parts. Like others have said, your Technic house shows me new uses for all those Technic beams and lift-arms I have. Thanks, Andy D
  21. Wow! You have done quite a bit in so short a time! But I really don't think you have upset he entire Christian fan base of anywhere (I am not upset). Just a couple of posters does not make a fan base. As for the others, you really need to evaluate your actions... If you feel you are right, well... Good. If there is some doubt in you mind about what you did, then you should act accodingly. keep on doing what you know is right. Just MHO, YMMV, Andy D
  22. Very, very nice. You really captured the scene here. The build is great, and the lighting, ah the lighting! Just great, really adds the spookiness of the movie to the LEGO scene. Looking forward to more. Andy D
  23. Monsijnor, There is so much to like about this. So much humor, the open flame under a wooden barrel to generate the steam, the connection to the drive wheel (just how would that work?), I also like the driving lamps. Very nice, very Steampunk! Andy D

    The Flag Strip

This is really nice! I guess this was the inspiration for the discussion on 2 story modulars. What is the footprint of each building? It looks to be about 16x16 more or less. I collect the Modular series, but This is a size I would like to explore a well, thanks for posting this. Andy D
  25. I was thinking the same thing. I know me though. If I bought it I am not sure how long it would take me to get around to assembling it because of display space? I know I would not part it out before assembling, and I would have a hard time disassembling it to part it out because it is just so gorgeous. This is a real conundrum to me. I like it very much, I like the parts pack, but if I never assemble it or part it out... Well, I guess you can see my dilemma. But I don't know how long I can resist the temptation to purchase and assemble. Oh, well.... Andy D
