Bricks cracking... just from being connected to one another?
splatman replied to Endgame's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I'm going with the environmental factor (E-factor) concerning cracked bricks, though, to a point, considering what fred67 and others said, there must be something else at play also. I inspected a thingy I've built a few years ago, the other day, and all but 1 of the 8 or so white cheese slopes I looked at have those little cracks on the lower end. There it is again! Cracked white cheeses! I have probably a 1000 or more cheeses in a dozen colors, that I have not used yet, though I did not inspect any yet. When I do, I'll use the Edit function to report my findings. My LEGO Room is in between a living room on the south, a bedroom on the north, and a hall on the east. Its single west-facing window is covered, so almost no light gets inside. I use a lamp in it. It's near Gig Harbor, Washington. The room's temp is usually a steady 60 degrees Fahrenheit, save for summer, when it sometimes gets warmer (no A/C in the house). My money's on a combo of the E-factor and falling quality, considering the reports of older LEGO bricks living on w/o cracks. Another thing I've considered, is the presence, and thus, interaction with the LEGO bricks, of certain chemical vapors, such as from various types of wood, the glues in plywood and particleboard, other plastics, carpeting, paints, paper and cardboard, electronics (Ever smell a PC monitor when it's warm from normal operation? Or a new one fresh out of the box?), auto exhaust, room air fresheners, fabric softeners, and cooking odors. I also no longer have a computer in the room (removed it about 2 months ago). Everything after electronics on the above list have little relevance, since I keep the door closed. When you can no longer smell something, it may still be giving off fumes; just so mild that you either no longer notice it, or it's below your capability to detect it. Such as paint on the walls long after it was applied. Or other things that are more than a few years old, and so have "lost their smell", though you can still smell something if you put it up to your nose. I'm still leaning more toward the falling quality issue as a possibility. I have not bought any LEGO in over 2 years, partly due to this issue. TLG, if you're reading this, please, do something about this issue. We would like our bricks to stay crack-free. -
Woulda never thought of this, especially the diagonally-placed pumps. For the prices, you shoulda put Arm, Leg, and Firstborn. Or LOL, OMG, and WT?!.

Paint stripper might dissolve the plastic. Of course, that depends on the type of stripper you use. Brasso has always been the stuff to use to make printed LEGO pieces printless. Or try fine sandpaper. 500 grit or higher. Or even 1000 grit. Tape pieces of sandpaper to some bricks, attach said bricks to your rotating platform, right on the lines, and rotate it a few times. That way, you'll sand off the lines, and only the lines. Then use Brasso to polish the "ex-lines". Before sanding, sprinkle some water on the baseplates to keep friction from generating heat, which will cause the dust to melt and clog the sandpaper.

Sounds like you need this book.

Really!? And all this time, I thought Flextronics did a hideous job. I've gotten many pieces from the Pick-A-Brick wall in Bellevue during the Flextronics days, and the plates, when stacked, say 180-high, would probably spiral 90 degrees. That's when I found out how bad it was. I've sold most of the offending plates on BL, with the issue noted in the item description.

Hi! MOC stands for My Own Creation. CUUSOO is the LEGO Co.'s crowd-sourcing website. Cuusoo is Japanese for Wish. This is the place for new members to introduce themselves. An admin will probably move this thread shortly. Splatman

What are the chances that WDR bought a bunch of the 6661 sets and printed the panels themselves? Open all the boxes, open all the relevant polybags, print the panels, put them back in the bags, reseal the bags, put them back in the boxes, and reseal the boxes. Did any of the boxes and bags appear to have been resealed? That might explain both the WDR logo being printed on top of the TV logo, and the total (so far) lack of records.

I would vote no re-releases. How 'bout a now hotel/restaurant combo? And a new grocery/apartment combo? but not w/o other mods in between, so it would not look like TLG entered the Twilight Zone. Even throw in a Space Modular or 2. I can already picture one, all blue and gray, with trans-yellow windows and trans-yellow sunroof. The Galaxy Grocer?

Why the Rainbow MOCs and did you do it?
splatman replied to Hrw-Amen's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Seeing the Han Solo in carbonite brick in the Rainbow D2 pic above, I thought, why not a R2D2 consisting of only Star Wars printed (or officially stickered) pieces wherever possible? Better yet, also built only of pieces from SW sets, except the R2D2 set. -

Just back into the spaces to park, from the nearest lane. Known as Combat Parking. Problem solved. -
First LEGO Sets introduced to Germany...

Looks like the jobs center building is in active use. Look in the windows. Last time I checked, indoor plants don't last long w/o Wasser. Any possibility TLG is leasing out the place to other companies? Perhaps as a way of profiting from the place? -
LEGO Area space design - Crowd Sourcing request
splatman replied to ie10421's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Decorating suggestion: Hang up pictures of outdoor scenes. So it's like looking out the window into the Great Outdoors. Especially helpful in a windowless room. Or pictures of things you like to build. Pics of Castles if you build those. Or of Space (real and/or scifi) if that's your thing. Have extra pics on hand, so you can swap some out from time to time, so it's not "the same pics on the wall all the time". Or use digital photo frames. -
What on earth is a Sharpie Clone? Never seen that term before. Is it Clone bricks decorated with Sharpie pens? Or someone needed some black bricks, but did not have any, so took a Sharpie to some other bricks? Or something that has nothing to do with clone brands, Clone Troopers, or Sharpie pens?

First LEGO Sets introduced to Germany...

Is that warehouse still owned by TLG? If it could be cleaned up, and maybe have a bit of revamping done to it, it would make quite the venue for brick festivals. And LEGO Straße would see some traffic again! -
This and this (or their variants) may work for attaching multiple cars/carriages. As far as width goes, you can basically build as wide as you wish. Just make sure the corners of the carriages don't limit articulation when going around curves. Air draft, like UrbanErwin said, must be limited, because overhead track clearance is 10 bricks, the height of the stanchions. Otherwise air draft is almost a non-issue.

I knew AB was an AFD caper. So I inserted some of my . And when you click the Of link, and scroll down, you'll find another one of my capers. Then, like at least one other did, I started to have my doubts. I was thinking, "Was it a serious change passed off as a joke?" Another asked a similar question. In another word, We all got Brick-Rolled. And while we were getting Brick-Rolled, we got Brick-Rolled. Double Brick-Roll!

Ameribricks? I'm in the USA, and Ameribricks just sounds funky. Russian to change the name just seems a bit too drastic. Worldbricks? Sounds too much like a corporation's name. Globalbricks even more so. Earthbricks; I'll go with that one. That's sounds much more down .Give it a Schplat! -
