Send a message to Brickbuildr's admin with the number of rows and columns in the wall, plus the name of the city and state/province and/or country it's in. He'll set up the grid, then you can submit an inventory. Take your camera (or your camera-equipped cellphone) along, and take pix of the wall, so you don't have to rely on your memory of what's in the wall while you submit the inventory.

What childhood names did you have for parts?
splatman replied to caperberry's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Thinking about this since seeing this topic yesterday, and I could not recall anything besides these: Minifigs = People. Trans-clear pieces = Clear pieces. Slopes = Roof Bricks. Inverted Slopes = Upside Down Roof bricks. Corner bricks and plates = L bricks and plates. I don't think I had any names for anything else, though, I did think of 2xn bricks and plates as "Double-Wide", like in double wide mobile home, otherwise, I referred them only by their length. I never had my own name for plates or baseplates, however. I went almost only my mental imagery, since other family members rarely touched my bricks. My Mom probably built 2 or 3 MOCs, my Dad, maybe 6, and my sister, a dozen or 3. Over the years, I picked up the official names from catalogs, in the "Essential Extras" section (TLG's name for it, not mine.), and from the LEGO Builders Club magazines since I joined in '89 or so. I'll use the edit function if I recall more. -
What is with Lego's instruction manual PDFs?
splatman replied to Zarkan's topic in General LEGO Discussion
When that involves vector graphics, here's a challenge for those that can take it on: Write a utility that corrects the offending colors. Until TLG does it themselves. Maybe this will get their attention. -
Layout WIP: I've finally started a real layout!
splatman replied to kyphur's topic in LEGO Train Tech
And throw in some of whatever transparent colors that are available, for a crazy out-of-this-world psychedelic railroad! Just make shure there's none of those little slopes in there, or it'll just look cheesy! Unless it will only serve dairy farms. :D Yeah, I said this just for the lulz! -
The green tubs were discontinued only a year or 2 after they were released. They did have a cardboard box that you could fill up for $150, but that was also discontinued just a few years after introduction. The box was an 8-inch cube, and the volume was almost exactly equal with the equivalent in large PaB cups, price-wise. I took pix and uploaded them to my Flickr account: I reused the box until I was told LEGO was no longer selling this item. There was no reuse discount (I asked). During one of those Product Suggestion surveys that TLG put out, I asked for a new PaB bulk box, that went like this: Starting with a 32x32 green or blue baseplate (purchased separately), you build walls 32 bricks high, fill it with the pieces of your choice (or build it solid), then cap with 2 layers of plates, to make a 10-inch cube, which would be dead equal (volume-wise) with 15 large PaB cups. The cashier would just ring it up as 15x large PaB cup refills (since no actual cups are involved, it would be the same to TLG as if you brought in your own PaB cups to refill).

Seeing the pic of the Seaside House, I thought on the medium blue walls, but why the red roof? LEGO did at least 3 Creator houses with red roofs, so why not a different color? TLG seems to be obsessed with red roof slopes. That's mainly what they made since they started making roof slopes. White came to mind, nah, save that for a winter themed house set (That's a suggestion, TLG!). Brown or dark brown? That would crash with the med-blue. So would dark blue (done), sand blue, and sand green. Tan? That would be too much with the tan beach. I know! Light yellow! I don't think TLG did light yellow slopes before. Pink would look good, too, but that would confuse the set with the Friends line.

I always thought cases were made of metal, to shield the components against EMF/radio interference, perhaps even EMP, to a limited extent, such as during thunderstorms. Or to keep the unit from causing interference (with radio, TVs, etc.) of its own. Or to block Van Eck phreakers, tho, they probably only target monitors, not the PC. Lining a non-metal case with aluminum or copper tape would achieve that objective nicely. Just be sure to connect this lining to ground for it to be effective. Aluminum tape can be bought at a hardware store, in the tape or HVAC section. DK where copper tape can be obtained, besides online. If you're supergluing the case together, just to make sure it stays together, instead, try threaded rod. One threaded rod in each corner, with a washer and nut on each end, will hold it together nicely. Use Technic plates with holes, or drill out a stud in the 4 places on the top and bottom. That will hold it together by clamping action. Then it's just a matter of hiding the rod ends and nuts and washers. Better a few pieces modded to fit some threaded rod, than a bunch of bricks glued together. Then, if you need to reconfigure it, your options are open. Or glue it together with PVA (Elmer's) glue. That way, if you want to take it apart, just soak it in warm water. The Al/Cu tape lining (if you go that route) will probably hold it together enough to negate the need for glue or threaded rods. I second hacking apart an old beige case for the mobo tray and other bits. Ask around for some old computers. You might even find some parts you're intending to buy, if you haven't bought them yet. I found an almost-new 30 gig HDD in an old PC, which I installed in mine when its 40 gig HDD's sectors were going bad left and right. There's plenty of space (SPACE!) left on it, so the loss of 10 gigs is no big deal. I've broke down old PCs and other electronics for scrap. Computer parts contain gold. Worth $$ at the scrapyard. Check the local Yellow Pages under recycling to find out where to cash in old PC parts and scrap metal. Then you'll have more $$ to put toward your LEGO PC.

When the place is buzzing with kids, I keep an eye on my cups. I always use a small cup (or bring a container for this purpose) to scoop a bunch of bricks from the wall, then take them to the counter to pack into my cups. When inventorying, I just take pix of the wall. I stand far enough back to catch 3 rows and 4 columns in each pic. Photobombs? Take 2! Catch all of the top half, then all of the bottom half of the wall. If I'm not sure if I'll be able to see what's in a bin in a pic, especially black, I'll balance a piece atop its respective bin.

I wonder if the Titanic will be LEGO's next Sculpture set? I'll be 100 years since the sinking of the Titanic in a few months.

Please make the images available again. I didn't get to see them when they were.

Are they available thru LUGBULK?

Layout WIP: I've finally started a real layout!
splatman replied to kyphur's topic in LEGO Train Tech
You can swiftly clean the tracks with a Swiffer Train! :D Of course, that does nothing for the rest of the layout. -
2x3 panels? I've only seen 2x2 panels, which looks like you've actually have, unless I perceiving the pic wrong. I've yet to see 2x3 panels in any color in PaB.

Thinking of the USB sound brick idea, just make it a USB flash drive, with a retractable USB connector. It would have a special folder, in which you would place the sound you want it to play. The rest would function like an ordinary flash drive, which would be used to store more sound files. More than one sound file in the Play folder would result in all files in that folder to be played back-to-back. Several sound formats would be supported. .WAV, .MP3, .WMA, .MOD, .IT, and more.

Mom & Pop stores - higher prices worth it?
splatman replied to gratefulnat's topic in General LEGO Discussion
When you have more LEGO, you'll be too busy to drink those beers anyway! -
Non-toy items, too! 2 years ago, I bought a wallet insert (the clear thing that holds pictures or credit cards), and when I got to my car to put it in my wallet, it turned out to be an empty package! Fortunately, I was able to get an exchange, NQA. I avoid WM, except for those few items not available elsewhere. Sterilite Show-Offs, for example. If they are, they're horribly overpriced. From now on, I'll have to remember this, and watch out for tampered items. Stories of this nature show up on BrickLink as well. Someone bought a large Harry Potter set, and the box turns out to be filled with zipper seal baggies of dirty old bricks (Yuck!) Another bought a set at one of those "Scratch-and-dent discount shops", and the box turns out to be filled with only 1x4 bricks in basic colors "Oh, I could use a bunch of those, anyways", says the author, then they turn out to be Megab@ks (Yuck Again!).
-
Sell'em on Bricklink! Then put the money toward things you want, but are not available in PAB. Would be a bit strange to open a store on BL just to sell 1x1 studs. What would you name it? The Stud Shop? Roundies? Jar-O-Jellybeans? Taste The Rainbow? It'll be an opportunity to sell anything else you don't/no longer want.

Galidor lives on for some odd reason...
splatman replied to Siegfried's topic in General LEGO Discussion
That's so those that still own Galidor sets can still visit it. That does not explain the other themes being shut down, tho. -
I hate....! Share your building annoyances here...
splatman replied to Mr Benn's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Solution: Move the bin away from the build table. So duh simple. -
Oh, I thought that was an excuse for some side-splitting laughter. Ha ha, more brick!

How should I build this water slide?
splatman replied to cruiser_elston's topic in General LEGO Discussion
LEGO does make something like it, but it may be a bit oversize: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=31195 HTH. -
It's Multicolor Mountain!
-
Look on the bright side: You have something that can be used for internal supports inside mountains or tunnels. Or something for young relatives to play with when they visit.

Doc in jail? Sounds like there's been some major malpractice going on! Maybe the mechanic is working with his friend toward starting a holistic clinic. :)
