Not enough of a mustache. I feel like these will definitely be marked down to $30 midway through the run, but perhaps LEGO knows this is the best set of the line and is starting the price high.

Master_Data, if the Sword of Gryffindor came to you, doesn't that mean you must be a member of House Gryffindor?

Really nice set, thanks for the review. I do plan to pick up one of these soon. Do you know if the whale spine piece is new?

Nice review, thanks! FYI your image of the front of the minifig is a repeat of the extra parts image. The dark red octopus is cool but this set seems like poor value compared to the starter pack. I like the little vehicle overall but the propellers seem awfully close to the operator.

First off I have to give thanks for the inspiration for this MOC, Artizan's great AOEII Ideas project: http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=88044 However this is not a build of his model, though it does share some strong similarities. I went through the source material from the ground up and came to some of the same conclusions and some major differences. I would've liked to make the roof dark orange but there were not enough parts available in that color. I added some details not visible in the game like a simple interior. I used a 40 x 32 base because I could not fit real stairs to the tower in a 32x32 model. The top of the 8 sided tower was interesting as I'd never made anything with angles like that and I wanted to keep the interior usable. Here is the source material:

I'm lost at what I should I get next, maybe a bit help?
Vorkosigan replied to LegoatDTLA's topic in General LEGO Discussion
In my opinion the cargo train is a better set especially at only $25 more than the passenger train these days. You get an additional car, more track (and switches), and the nice gantry crane. I also prefer the more brick built engine. However the cars are pretty bare bones and fairly unrealistic, but you could MOC something better on the bases. On the other hand I think a passenger train looks more natural if you want to run it through a city. -
That's pretty cool. So far I've only found my own LEGO that got misplaced, like occasional random pieces in unrelated boxes of stuff from when I was a kid.

That's crazy there is another high concept game coming out so close to Dimensions. I guess they didn't plan to have their website ready until the official release of the sets. Hopefully it'll be up by the 1st.

Is Bricklinking a set always this hard?
Vorkosigan replied to ResIpsaLoquitur's topic in General LEGO Discussion
You guys talking about different manual ways of using bricklink to look at options, the thing is that the chances of you stumbling on the best deal this way are tiny. With the millions of permutations of combinations of stores, you really need a software tool to optimize it. Even if you find stores that carry all the parts in one place, chances are good that this isn't the best deal. Some of the stores with the largest selections have very high prices. I once compared buying a set of parts from the only store that had everything, which would have cost $300, or buying from 3 stores, which cost $40. -

You should use Brickficiency for this. Edit: I just ran a search. You could have bought all the parts for $9.54 from two sellers in the US, or for only $4.62 from 3 sellers. That's not to say minimum orders and other terms issues may not have complicated these options, but it shows the potential of the tool. I definitely recommend it. -
Outstanding build! The scope and details throughout are mind boggling. Reminds me a little of playing rollercoaster tycoon, its fun to lay out all the different attractions.

Picked up the diving starter pack and compared the new and old divers: I like that the new figure is an evolution of the 90s divers, with a similar color scheme. One thing that is weird is that the new flippers are significantly thicker than old ones. EDIT: I see that there is a note about this on BL and it happened in 2013.

Last Castle wave was like pirates, small number of sets aimed at younger fans. I doubt they will do that again so soon. I do think it will be "action" oriented, but that doesn't have to be bad. Ultra Agents is a fairly stylish theme in the action vein.

How do you build your Lego sets?
Vorkosigan replied to Wonderpants's topic in General LEGO Discussion
MMV is a good example of why numbered bags are a good idea. It especially has a lot of small pieces similar to a modular, and it was a bit of a pain to sort through them all. I could definitely see a kid getting frustrated. I do sometimes mix smaller sets though when the set is like 300 pieces but they still divide it into two builds. -
I'd say go for it with LEGO if that's your passion. Its more about the quality of what you do than the media in my opinion. And I don't think its so easy to create full artwork from scratch using photoshop, unless you are already skilled at drawing by hand.

If I remove the first two numbers I get Troll Mountain Fortress, pretty cool set:

Do Sets without Minifigures Really Sell Well?
Vorkosigan replied to Deathleech's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Most people selling the pieces are also selling the figs, there are several sellers on ebay doing this continuously. So they are trying to make a profit, and as you pointed out in the ebay thread after you pay the 15-20% of fees the seller needs to have a lot of markup to make it worthwhile. It looks like it works for them or they'd stop.- 14 replies

What if you buy the uncommon color parts from LEGO "bricks and pieces"? If they are from currently sold sets you have a decent chance of them being available.

Just look at sold items on eBay for the set in question. You may need to be logged in to use the "sold" filter.- 14 replies

Review: Oxford Ancient Korean Fortress (JK3461)
Vorkosigan replied to Vorkosigan's topic in Community
On one hand LEGO usually saturates my budget as it is, but it would be interesting to see Oxford sold in the US. You can buy this set on ebay for $130 shipped from Korea which is quite a markup even though some of it is understandably from shipping. Its a shame I see some of the terrible quality outright ripoff brands in stores but no Oxford. Its more LEGO-like than Megablocks and KREO and puts out some solid original designs. -
You got that right:

Thanks! Its weird even though your links work and I can see other sets in the suggestions, if I go out to whats new it doesn't show these for me, only the demolition sets for City.

I picked up a non-LEGO set while on a trip to Korea that may be of interest to historical fans. It is an ancient Korean fortress, I posted a review in the Community subforum: http://www.eurobrick...howtopic=109571
