Checking back after some time - nice progress! I'd have several suggestions though: Top dish (where that 8x8 round tile used to be) looks to dark and somewhat fragmented. You really should try brick built version like it is on UCS falcon. that would make for smoother circle and ultimately better look. back side seems still a bit 'overgreebled' to me. some of these dark grey brackets stick out to much so does that grey horse hitching on the right side... I understand your intention to capture most possible detail but with all these tubes and bits being oversized for given scale, to implement them isn't always the best option. Last but very important - that section beneath the cockpit (where the corridor is) looks extremely bulky from the side. Given that the cockpit is already oversized for this scale, this excessively big section makes it look even more disproportional. Is there any reason for making it that big? Interior asisle I guess? Not sure it it's beneficial :/

Not very much to it but the small details makes it lovely. Especially that coffee can sign is brilliant! Is that your own design? I also like that bycicle covered with layer of fresh snow. I wish that the building itself was executed a bit better, then it would easily compete for my favorite entry!

Interesting how many chandeliers appear in this year entries :D Very nice to see them though. On this entry I particularly like the curved layout. Looks good from the front and leaves more acces from the back. The only thing that bugs me a bit is the carpet area being somewhat separate, not sufficiently fused with the building. Also the blooming flowers seem a bit inappropriate. Some ice sculpts would make for better impression :)

Haha, what a prominent village to have an airport :D Very unusual and original idea, yet makes up for a nice entry. I like that xmas plane, can imagine santa going jelly with his raindeers... :D

The model itself is nice. I quite like the concept of open interior for easier access and playability. Though if I imagine that this should expand the existing WV layout, it seems a bit weird. Large tall grey building in the middle of the village? This is more like Winter Town set :)

Nice entry. The station reminds me Springfield elementary from some reason :D On the whole it's not my favorite entry from what I have seen (perhaps some chritmas decorations would help, yet it might end up looking silly on the police station) but it's well executed. Good luck!

Another entry to my top... 3 I guess atm :D I really like the roof on the building - different architecture makes it original yet perfectly fitting into WV theme. Barn is a nice little addition but that wagon is the star for me :) Well done and good luck in the contest!

RC Mini Truck
Kristof replied to Chade's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thats it. There is indirect proportion between radial velocity (rotational speed) and size (number of teeth). In engineering world, I think the speed is taken as aspect more commonly, because that's what you really care about in gearboxes etc. Anyway, the best is to clearly name what are your ratios related to (whichever choice you pick) so there's no confusion. -

Kristof replied to Chade's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Well, I'm not sure about the convention but this is how I understand it. You chose which gear stands for input and the other is output, then the ratio is 'input turn':'output turn'. In other words, how much does the input need to rotate for the ouptut to make one full revolution. Of course, it's conventional not to use fractions (i.e. 1/2:1) so there is not always '1' for the output but you got the idea. Hence if you have 24 gear as an input, 8 gear as output, I'd say the propper spec for ratio is 1:3. Of course in this notation you talk about radial velocity ratio. If you have taken number of teeth as a unit, the ratio would be in reverse. -
It's not that long ago since I admired brick built version of this car thinking that no rendition could possibly make me more interested. Well, here we go :D I hope you succeed making all this functional - the complexity/size combo is nearly frightening :) But you seem to know very well what you'r doing and the model is geeting shape amazingly well. Can't wait for more updates!

[MOC] Simple Supercar
Kristof replied to Lipko's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
If I built this, the word simple would disapear from my vocabulary :D at least in terms of my model description. Brilliant model! And the fact that it incorporates sturdy structure with no flimsy parts should be inspirtion for everyone :) -
I was about to say that it's to big for Microfighter but as I see the detail and folding function, the size makes perfect sense. Well done, this is better than full size lego set ;)

Gold/Chrome LEGO Snowtrooper + Re-done UCS Naboo starfighter
Kristof replied to _Samibotss_'s topic in LEGO Star Wars
Silver front is fine (and movie accurate) but why old for the rest? True that I'm not fan of painting in general but when it's meaningful and well executed, I can appreciate it. Here I must say it looks kinda trashy, especially with that uneven coat. Maybe, as you say, it wouldn't look that weird in real or on better pictures. Try taking a picture on some contrast (white) background - the floor color is to similar to gold which contributes even more to bad look of the pic. -
I totally admired all your (both) builds, this is no different. It's crazy how many uses for this (first glance one purpose) element have you found. This scene is beafutiful, I love the tree lights plugged in socket :D

I think it's a bit fusy which damages the overal impression. Like to much action so nothing really stands out. The town hall looks very nice, though that tower feels a bit unrealistic. Still great entry. Good luck!

The clothes rack is certainly the most appealing detail. Whole model looks good in general, maybe I don't really like these red stripes on the building and also the car looks a bit weird. The positives though overweight these easily :)

Very, very, very nice. I really appreciate that unlike many other entries (rather standalone showcase models) you keep the WV style given by lego sets, while maintaining wonderful details and brilliant look. I love the color scheme, and that uneven roof is simply fantastic :) Good luck in the contest!

[MOC] Millennium Falcon - Still the coolest spaceship!

^ Haha, you nailed it :) I remember trying MLCad several years ago and I end up after failing to place 2 bricks the way I wanted them. Back then LDD seemd like blessing. Though I must say that MLCad did some progress since these days while LDD remains the same - intuitive but lacking functions, and (more importantly) updated bricks. I hope I can learn it with not much pain, lets see... potato..o, thanks! I'll do my best!

There are four major issues for which I won't just share the LDD file or auto-generated instructions. The interior (plus some exterior things) has changed a lot since I proved my initial LDD concept failing to be built in real and since certain moment I did not track the changes in LDD. Partially because I made a lot of iterations and experiments and simply didn't have time (or taste) to do these on my LDD file, also because LDD brick database is awfully outdated and some key parts weren't (stil arent) available and also some bciks connections (completely legal) were impossible to do. So my 3d model now looks similar to the final design, yet is quite different and hardly buildable. This model is far to complex for generated guide. I tried to make that one and it's simply impossible to follow. You'd have better luck building just with the 3d model view. Generated instructions kinda works for Invisible Hand, yet still not perfectly by far. And again, there were changes made that aren't in the file. I believe these models deserve propper instructions - as simple as that :) I want to charge a little sum per instructions, therefore I feel responsible for it's quality. I would feel bad selling that auto-generated **** :) For you who want to build the copies, sort of good news is that as for now, the models are quite expensive and hard to build due to some new and certainly very rare parts. Some of them seem to appear in 2016 sets so the availability on BrickLink should get better. Therefore some waiting for the instructions may save some costs eventually :D

The thread is hopefully not that old to be considered dead so replying is all ok. You need to make 10 posts in order to unlock PM's (that's inevitable protection from spammers). I have to apologize for my progress pace, which seems to be approaching zero - I really got no time since I finished the builds to do anything about pictures and instructions. I'm currently trying to get some guidance (from better educated community members) about LDraw and LPub - software necessary for creating good looking and useful instructions. I hope that I find someone willing to cooperate on those or at least give me some advices to start since both these programs are a bit counter intuitive on first approach. I'm making no promisses on some release dates that I'd have to break eventually but I can tell you for sure that I'm going to make those. It may Just take some time. Thanks for your interest :)

Yea, that sounds more than valid and nicely explained. You nailed is with the comparison with these old times - that's exactly what I tried to express, yet failed finding the right way to do so. I'm pure example of the one who'd like the old-style model better, knowing it's hardly possible to apply today. Well I hope that Lord Business won't affect further lego products in a negative way and the partnership will do good both for the companies and customers :)

So it is, for certain, that Disney dictates the time where certain sets shall be released? That's something I didn't really consider before. But the more I hear it, the more you convince me that it actually is true. Regarding the flaws in the sets, ther really isn't that much to complain about and I was being overly excessive before, talking about low quality. Yet this shuttle issue, then the TIE cannon/antena thing (which I think is even funnier and somewhat more dumb :) ) and missing net on rey's speeder are good examples of thing's that could have been avoided if it weren't of the rush. About spoilers, again my argument is weak. There really wasn't much more in the sets than in the trailer and I'm not sure why do I actually feel it like that... these aren't spoilers which would reveal the plot but somehow ruin the atmosphere of mystery and expectation. I don't know, perhaps I just don't like this whole pre-movie hype that is being augmented, and lego sets being part of it. Maybe there aren't many individuals like me who'd be much happier to see these sets come after the movie so one can better put them in the context of the actual storry. Edit: How about names? Doesn't toys reveal them? I just realized that I had no idea about all these character names or 'first order' for example before seing these on lego sets. I'm not saying that it's some disaster but I think I felt a bit weird about it since it never happened to me before :)
-
Really? I had no idea that TLG and the basement guy are so much different... Well, no seruously, everyone keeps teaching me some facts I'm well aware of. From the very beginning, my complaint is about toy companies rushing to release their products early to concieve some shopping spree and get huge sales, which results in both spoilers and lower product quality (my oppinion). You all sound like it takes infinite ages to create lego set, but ship design in movie can be changed overnight. It's certainly not that extreme on either side, Second trailer is 7 months old and I honestly believe they must have had that shuttle design finalized some months ago. Therefore If toys were released after the movie, I'm quite sure that these extra months would be enough to tweak the set properly. I may be wrong though. That makes sense, yea. I keep the faith that they do care about fan feedback at least a little. But if people go and buy their products like locusts just because advertisement tells them to do so, there is really not much need for them to do better.
