  1. I know this will sound cliche (especially these days) but this should have been the set! It looks pleasingly substantial while not being excessively detailed or complex. I'm sure this design would have gotten much more appreciation, even if the price was more than double in the end. Gret job!
  2. Although I usually like visible studs (I'm that 'It's Lego, not Revel'-kind of guy) I must admitt that this really looks cool... and much better than the original. I'd just suggest using some more dark brown / dark orange / dark tan pieces here and there to get a bit of contrast into that plain brown surface.
  3. ^ I feel exactly the same and see the similar instances around here. Here in Czech Republic, Lego price per average income is way worse than in US and most other states. Therefore not many parents (from otherwise well doing families, no poor folks) could buy such set to their child, even if they wanted. I remember that the most expensive set I ever got as a gift was the 8455 Backhoe Loader with RRP $100 these days and that was really like one hell of a gift! I know that my country is probably not the best market sample (on the worldwide scale), yet I'm pretty sure this set won't find many customers here.
  4. I agree on all. These were great sets and I really miss them.
  5. I'd like to see pics of your real-brick mockups as well :) Good luck with this project, trully ambitious one.
  6. Yep. my thoughts.
  7. ^ What most people including me meant was that the set type is rathe kid-oriented playset (this is regarding look, detailing, building techniques - certainly nothing more advanced than standard playsets here). Price is obviously not parent friendly and a lot of people correctly pointed out this disbalance as well...
  8. :) Alright. Perhaps I was aslking more about what is the complex project you are building, should that be possibly more interesting than just abstract talking about uni's and gears, adding some content over the nice yet somehow bare fact that these people are nice (which is still good to point out, no argue here) ;)
  9. Making a shoutout on a public forum, it would help to at least say what is it all about don't you think? Otherwise such post has no meaning for uninitiated :/
  10. ^ maybe you are? :D I don't know but it looks quite alright in comparison to e.g, your profile pic. Maybe it's a bit bulkier but the length seems alright.
  11. ^Yep, the ship is I guess supposed to be the same in terms of shape. With modifications, I didn't mean changes that would distract the design from the original, I just thought that it could be beneficial to re-design some parts with using newer parts, both costwise and accuracy-wise. I don't think the original is fragile, with newer pieces and techniques however, it could certainly be improved a lot :)
  12. Didn't you think about some modifications? The part pallette changed a lot since this set was released - some bits would be easier to build with different bricks and a lot could be surely improved, both structural and design wise :) I believe that would be much more interesting endeavor (and surely bigger accomplishment) than trying to track all these old pieces and ending up with just color modification.
  13. The 'UCS' label really feels like mistake here - in my oppinion it only raises concerns and affects negatively the overal impression. If this was labeled just as standard, yet massive playset, many of these complaints would not be present. As for me, I can't talk from a customer point - I can't afford such set by any chance, nobody is going to give me that either and it's the same for all other sets above... $150 or so. So I can't say this 'I'll pass this one' thing :). Still, I'll kinda pass it, you know :D This would be dream come true set as for a kid (or young teenager). I can still appreciate the play value but I can no longer enjoy it. And at this point, I really wonder how many of todays kids love the original trilogy of SW as much as we (afols) do :/ Is it still dream come true for them? Another observation that makes me insecure about how well is this executed is the lack of imperial forces. 'Asaault' represented by one gun turret guy and one snowspeeder? On the other hand, I didn't really expect anything much different. I really wonder what some people thought will come - some kind of 10K piece monstrosity with huge hangar and AT-Ats approaching? The designer had probably very tight hands and I really wouldn't like to be in his position for this time. If it werent of that UCS tag... I think I'd say good job. All in all, I guess this will mainly be UCS set as a 'set for Ultimate Collectors' :) Sort of afols who buy pretty much any set from a collector point. But within the company of other sets, this doesn't shine any brighter than average, at least for me.
  14. Well that takes decent audacity to ask people to fund expensive hobby of yours :/ If I had some extra money to donate, I see million places where these would be needed rather than paying someones luxury (which building costly huge lego model certaily is). Plus all the remarks Cjd has above... You didn't even note who is the designer, which is very rude, dude.
  15. Good job Kit! I somewhat had the same feeling about poes colorscheme at first glance, now I definitely like it a lot. Regarding your models, the black wokrs perfectly to hide some 'studdyness' and gaps created by those wedge plates on the sides of the hull - these aspects disturb me a little on the grey version. Therefore I like your Poe's fighter much more on the whole. Anyway, I really like the shaping you did on it - excellently close to the original and or course way better than official model :)
  16. Fantastic models, both of them! After some time (several weeks at least...?) these are the pieces I can really admire. Especially the corvette in it's scale is just brilliant!
  17. ^ Ouch, really. That looks it really could be like that (as far as one can tell from that low quality pic with lifted front hood). Hmm... another thing I wish is not finlal. I wouldn't really mind 1 stud travel if the car rested higher on wheels when not being forced down. This really looks like road spokeshave, not a car :)
  18. This sounds possible, could be as you say. So you think that the clearance we see on pics is as it's supposed to be? I have my doubts, really. Also where is the '1 stud travel' from? I probably missed some picture or I can't deduce from these I have seen.
  19. Looking at the pics I always wonder about that ground clearance... doesn't it look to low, I mean even for a sports car? It looks it could be effectively used for measuring the surface flattness :D
  20. Oh yea, I really hope we get to pick color, interior finish, optional equipment, engine, tires and rims... like buying a real car! And 'only' 4 colors? Pfff, that would be huge disappointment! Well as long as you can 'hope' in that, it seems to me that such hopes can't be further from reality. Apart of all the factial reasons (production, economy...) that's just something Lego doesn't do. Especially since the face of this car is made of hundreds and hundreds of bricks. I'f reality proves me wrong, I'll get back to apologize, yet so far all these 'multiple color choice' speculations seem more crazy that thinking it will have real working combustion engine inside :/
  21. ^Not that I'd be english grammar nazi, yet using 'will be' right after 'if', that was instant drop out on most english courses I have ever been through :D
  22. Guy told me he owns 100% transparent UCS MF! And what more you can't even feel it when you put your hand on where it stands Must be clone brand right? Still great to have such thing
  23. Very nice, though you know what would I really appreciate? If you made a thread into photography section showing several steps of how such picture is being made (initial render/build - mixing the pics together - enhancing that shadow effect) with some commentary for each step. That would be both very interesting and perhaps useful as a sort of guide ;)
  24. Actually I think that applying these stickers was the only time consuming aspect. Other than that, it's just a random cammouflage pattern spread onto classic panel sticker shapes, I can imagine that being done within several minutes :)
