Post your general LEGO Star Wars questions here
Smitty500 replied to XimenaPaulina's topic in LEGO Star Wars
another factor is the special pieces that the set had, like the inverted windscreen or the rancor slopes, that are hard to come by or expensive. I would try and get most of it on ebay, if you want a 100% accurate set. Personally, I would build my own, based off the original model -
This looks like a nice set, would go great with the Ghost, so they can drop some cargo of for the rebel fleet. Been awhile since we've had a set in this price range I find it OUTRAGEOUSLY out of scale. kind of like Rey's speeder, but at least she has some handle bars she can actually grab onto. Kanan or anyone riding it looks out of place while sitting on it. the speeder bike is spot on, looks-wise, just doesn't mesh well with minifigs.

I was waiting for someone to tackle this project. I was really wanting to, but I have a few projects already I need to get done and then life to deal with in front of that. this looks like a promising start. I will be looking forward to future progress, the corridor looks amazing already and the cockpit has some nice techniques.

[MOC] Old Republic Thranta Corvette and NovaDive Starfighter
Smitty500 replied to J4ke's topic in LEGO Star Wars
these look incredible. I do not have much knowledge of the old republic, so I had to look at source images. You capture both ships spot on, I especially like the Novadive starfighter. you captured it perfectly, as well as how smooth the ship is. I am disapointed you could not make the wings functional, because that would be a neat feature, but seeing the way you went with it, it be impossible and make it un-structurally sound. I am glad you were able to fit a minifig inside though, the technique for the windshield worked out great. you had taken great photos of the ships o show them off well. -
reminds me of the imperial dropship from the Force Unleashed. http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Imperial_Dropship_Transport/Legends

There are things I like about both that make them about equal to me. I own the official one, her eyes do bother me a bit, but compared to the rest of the clone wars faces, its pretty tame. Arealigh'ts sand blue color I think is more accurate though, but I like the official version's Lekku headpiece more. I am not sure about how much she cost online right now, but I bet you can get i cheaper from Arealight. -

both of course! Though I would maybe start collecting TSA related army stuff for now, because LEGO will always comes full circle releasing the original trilogy merchandise. -
what this is thing is missing to make it truly classic, is to put an opening hatch on the nose for the pilot to put their gear or light saber in. that's what really makes me love the classic.

Post your general LEGO Star Wars questions here
Smitty500 replied to XimenaPaulina's topic in LEGO Star Wars
It does come with instruct booklet, and he offered the box for extra shipping. I know I got half the value by not getting the figs, and that doesn't bother me. The only exclusive in the set was Leia, I have all the other complimentary figs. Plus I plan on buying the imperial shuttle, which will give me the whole rebel crew with upgraded Han and Leia. I was never impressed with the AT-ST, but maybe I will change my mind when I get it. I think the bunker was the focal point of the set, and would cost even more to buy the pieces separately. I think it was a good deal since I got 70% of a retired set for half off. I like minifigs, but think how much more money you spend just trying to obtain those, it's not worth it. Minifigs are constantly being updated, so there's always a chance of getting them later with upgraded designs. -

Hello everyone, I've been on ebay lately and have noticed some pretty good deals and some not so good. Well today, I stumbled upon the Endor bunker set for $39.99 US. (plus $10.00 shipping). Sounds great right? well the catch is, that it does not come with the minifgures, the ewok glider fabric, speeder bikes, or catapult. I had an impulse buy, I spent like $50.00, and all I got was the complete bunker and AT-ST. So my question is, did I get a great deal or not? what's your thoughts? -
These images are so clean they almost look fake! but nice job, very different style of technique used to tackle the panels, I almost thought of going that way. I am reworking mine, for like the 50th time... I hope I can get it done soon. is there any interior shots?

[MOC] Emperor's Throne Room in Kenner Micro Collection style.
Smitty500 replied to BaronSat's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Looked at the original, and it is spot on. I love how you did the windows, I like the concept of the pit for the emperor to fall through too, LEGO's did not appeal to me at all, it was too crammed. I noticed you added the circular blue chairs?( that his henchmen sit in, or something rather). I think they're too big for the rest of the model and need to be scaled down, it would open room for more fighting. as well as the railings, which are awesomely built btw. -
I would hate to shift attention away from our forums. I found this one on FBTB, http://www.fbtb.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=6446,

Gold/Chrome LEGO Snowtrooper + Re-done UCS Naboo starfighter
Smitty500 replied to _Samibotss_'s topic in LEGO Star Wars
I think it turned out nice for what resources you have used. Yes spray paint, especially gold, does not make a true chrome, as it lacks the shine and reflectivity. but its a good attempt, rather than plain grey and yellow. I think the silver turned out way better than the gold. Personally I would have just did the silver. the Gold is a bit muddy, and doesn't represent the true gold/yellow, the fighter has. Maybe there is a way you can polish it to make it more reflective, like a several coats of glossy clear coat (Experiment at your own cost, I am no expert). I would look into hydro-chroming, if you want the best look . I am guessing this is how LEGO does there's. -
I have modified my 7676 gunship and had done exactly that. I cut the stickers 2 studs off, and was left with this. full page: http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/380976. But I am sure you are looking for something more like this. Where the nose art is actually on the nose! It all depends what kind of nose art you want as well.

PLEASE NO SPOILERS Episode VII. Is it good?
Smitty500 replied to LegoPercyJ's topic in Culture & Multimedia
This post is kind of pointless, no offense. Are you really not going to go see it if someone says it is not good? You're going to go no matter what you hear about it just to see it. This is the Star Wars forum after all, we're going to like it to any degree no matter what. I will choose to ignore all the comments here. Let's keep quiet about the movie for a few weeks till the hype dies down, until then we can talk about and show off MOCs from it. -
You could also use a heat gun or hair dryer, I have done this to a few of mine a few years ago, and they hold there shape great. I think Stottish Dave still had a nice idea of an extra clip up top, just for sturdiness. Canopy is a brilliant design for the X-Wing. I am not a big fan of the nose, but maybe it will look better IRL. I am also concerned about the old-school hinges you used, while they are great for inverting bricks to and closing the gap. They don't have the friction the newer ones have to keep them in an open position. Unless you have something else supporting it I am not seeing.

[Review] - 75131 Resistance Trooper Battle pack
Smitty500 replied to IGRION's topic in LEGO Star Wars
For a second, I thought the heads were yellow, then you took off the helmet. I thought LEGO was going backwards -
Shouldn't you be stu this is great progress and all. but. Shouldn't you be studying for an exam??

That's really nice. Gives some scene for the characters. they also use some pretty standard pieces. I can see someone getting really detailed with these. lol, Han hiding behind the plant! Hilarious

I made my mandibles the way I did, because When I intially built this, I was using Flails design and the previous Falcon had a the older style slope plates (less steeper slope) So, I was trying to match it with the 2x3 slopes. The UCS Falcon also did something similar. I do not think it looks bad, as it should look a bit choppy.

Help with interior to Millenium Falcon 7965
Smitty500 replied to Koptokaff's topic in LEGO Star Wars
theres many many many interior mods to the smaller scale Falcon. the firsr one that got really popular was Flails http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=86875. and everyone seemed to have based theirs off of his (including me http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/375856). heres some others I really liked. http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/390350 http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/341171. there, there's 4 sources. I am not sure if any of these matches what you were looking for -
I just recently discovered this piece, but I think it would look perfect insode the engines and give it some detail. , unfortunately it only comes in tan right now

Ive done similar mods to mine. with replacing the alternationg wedges with 2x4 wedges. I also put 2x3 slopes to to fill in the front portion, this allows the front slope to lay down flatter. I like the idea of the holes through out the model. I may try and do that to mine.
