  1. Jaller/Hahli shipping, since several of us are treating the Protectors as 2015 versions of the Mahri team until they are given names that contradict that. It's amazing how something so small and so innocuous changes things so much. Just from that, we know that: 1) The villagers, and maybe the Toa, form relationships similar to ours. (Tahu and Gali, anyone?) 2) More insight into Otokan culture. 3) Romance confirmed 4) No "married to the job" drek for our Protectors: Having kids is a regular thing for them. 5) The villagers are not robots, and are definitely biomechanical. THey appear to be capable of biological reproduction. 6) Considering that they probably form relationships within their own tribes, mixed-gender tribes, maybe?
  2. From father to son? Okay, so Protectors have kids. I guess romance is confirmed, then.
  3. The other thing you can do with an oversized character is make up for one side being outnumbered. Myself and a friend finished a 49-chapter Sonic-based darkfic the other day. THe final battle had five heroes against one villain (WHo was an absolutely mad robot). If the villain had stayed at normal size, then our heroes would've just dogpiled him, since while he could've killed one or two of them, all five of them would've slaughtered him. So we made him bigger. He creates a new body for himself, basically a molded metal shell filled with energy (Basically, he became a Makuta), which is three times the size of an adult Mobian. And with that size, he was able to fight all of them to a standstill until they shredded all of his wings and broke one of his legs. If we had a giant Makuta, to use him as an example, then he could convincingly fight the heroes all at once. If he was the same size as them, then they'd just overwhelm him in a physical battle.
  4. I dunno, Sidorak and Roodaka looked pretty comfortable in Metru Nui in WoS. Plus, let's remember that the standard inhabitant of these places was a short Matoran. I guess they just built everything big.
  5. I dunno, I really like having larger characters from a storytelling standpoint. Transformers tends to manage fine with different size classes, and that was one thing I felt the Bay films succeeded at. Huge characters like Blackout and Grimlock never seemed too big, really. They looked pretty good. I'm admit, I'm not much of a technic person. I'm much more fond of aesthetic and posability than functions, but if you can get all three working together, then I'll happily buy that, and that's why I love the new Toa. And yet, I now find myself disliking LoSS even more, now that VBBN has showed off the mod. I mean, I love the mod, and it looks good, but honestly, if I'm going to be Bricklinking a load of CCBS parts to give him decent limbs, I might as well bricklink the whole thing, leave out the parts that I don't want, like the gears, beams, and chest-face, and just get the mask, joints and pin, while using the rest of the money to get parts for a different spidery villain.
  6. A joke on the fact that myself and others are considering the Protectors to be 2.0 versions of the Matoran that became the Mahri team until we get confirmation of their roles/names/etc, meaning the PoI would be Matoro.
  7. The Protector of Ice is our new messianic archetype.
  8. Yeah, I'mma call them Matoran too, until we get a new canon name. Hell, I'm already calling the six sets Jaller (It totally fits his design too), Hahli, Matoro, Hewkii, Kongu, and Nuparu (Because putting a gatling gun in his chest is something I can almost see Nuparu doing).
  9. I like him. Sure, when I get him, he's going to be "borrowing" Furno's limbs, and I'm going to be calling him Jaller (Dat Arthron-looking-mask, dat story role, dat size), but still.
  10. That looks incredible. Got to repeat Lyichir's question, though: How stable is he?
  11. Eh, I don't like the set. THe model doesn't appeal to me, I'll just rebuild some Visorak. As a parts pack, on the other hand... Glatorian necks, HF Y-joints, claws, dem pins, etc. Yeah, he's not high-priority, though. Because Bricklink still exists. Also, not really taken with the trans Technic beams. Never been much of a technic builder (I am a rather shameless fan of Inika torsos), so while they look nice... I wouldn't have much use for them.
  12. I'll probably still Mod him. Go for that classic Matoran look and give him longer arms.
  13. ON the other hand, Red looks kinda bad as the top colour, compared to it's less bright and eye-catching fellows. You'd better off with PoE, PoW, or PoI. Also, random thought about the whole "bows look like guns with bow-bits" thing: Did everyone forget Furno 3.0?
  14. My inner Sonic fanboy came up with this: Transparent green + Stone = Emeralds. Stones aren't just brown, of course, and hopefully, this means we can be more creative with secondary colours in Stone MOCs, and it's why I'm okay with colour variation.
  15. I'm torn, having gone through the reviews. On one hand, LoSS really doesn't appeal. On the other hand, dem pins.
  16. Yeah, I don't think mid-sized spiders are good villain sets. Minions, yes, but villains, not so much. I mean, you kinda want something the size of Shelob or Aragog if you're going for that role.
  17. The problem is that the Toa doing everything that the 01 Toa do, have articulation, dual weapons, and their golden masks included, and a bonus skull spider. LoSS has one of those features. Meanwhile, the the Toa are, IMO, better than any other Toa sets we've had. Even the Hagah, because ball-jointed shoulders. LoSS is equal to the 01 Rahi, which were surpassed by their successors in later years.
  18. Disappointed with LoSS. Yeah, the callback to the 01 Rahi is nice, but the Toa manage to keep the gears and dual-function weapons of their earlier incarnations, while also having the articulation of more recent sets. Pohatu in particular surpasses them, with his balljointed elbows. Not to mention, the awkwardness of the 01 Rahi was due to their use as part of the "Function Game" at the time, whereas LoSS, lacking a full Skull Spider, or a giant face to latch onto, is the only set that can't really do much there. I know this might sound a little cliche, but do you perhaps think they should've gone for a humanoid torso mounted on an arachnid body, with the gold Skull Spider mask for his face?
  19. I'd love to see the Barraki again too, actually. ANd WHirl is amazing. I'm going to have to get some spare parts for the Protectors, so they can all have knees.
  20. I've always thought that, in the cases where these things speak English, but there are no humans around, then they do have their own language, it's just translated for our viewing pleasure. Of course, this makes words that aren't translated, like Rahi, problematic, but not so much for species names like Rahkshi, Toa, etc. Anyway, as for things I want back, Takanuva and the Mahri. And Tanma. Weird, I know, and with basically zero chance, but I liked Tanma.
  21. Got to say, I'm not a fan of LoSS. He's just some random technic parts with limbs.
  22. Someone's missed the important detail that this isn't the old canon, it's a reboot. These are new Toa, probably fresh out of the not-canister. And at what point were the armour pieces ever given battle damage? The Protectors may not be Matoran. THey're likely a different species altogether. And the Toa are Masters of their own elements, not masters of people.
  23. Nooooo, not Screaming Kid! He was the best of us... Anyway, as for the colour issues with the MoCo, it's worth noting that Makuta might not have turned back to his normal colours after losing the MoUP. If that's the case, then he'll likely have a black MoCo. This is wishful thinking, but maybe, just maybe, we'll get a box set with the Protector-scale Ekimu and Makuta, in their original forms, and two larger sets depicting them in larger bodies, Makuta coming with the MoUP and a black MoCo?
  24. Got to say that I like those masks. Might try and turn them into reaction faces...
