  1. You mean like a couple, or just the last Toa still fighting by the end of the arc?
  2. Tried that, makes the neck too long.
  3. THe only real dark stuff in The Kingdom came when Teridax showed up, which worked really well, and Kingdom Teridax is one of my favourite things to see people do fanart of, just because of how freakish and twisted he is. And let's not forget the Oh-So-Dark City of Silver. Home to a cartoon mole and some Kestora which can be beaten via pretty lights. As an aside, anyone got any tips for getting a Mata Head onto an Inika torso, without sacrificing articulation?
  4. Well, at least he's doing it himself now.
  5. You're still missing the part where his maskless face somehow doubles in size as it rots, and sprouts horns. If Grinder is Makuta, then that isn't Makuta's body. It's someone elses' being possessed. But they're not going to play Makuta this early. They'll save him for when the flavour of the day is the MoCo or MoUP. THis year's about the MoCr, which is only tangentially related to Makuta.
  6. I highly doubt Grinder is going to be Makuta. Considering that Ekimu only got knocked into a coma, it'd be weird if Makuta actually got killed, and weirder still if he went from gold/purple or black/red to silver/black/trans-orange by way of being dead. And then got horns and new weapons out of nowhere. And somehow his head decomposed into a skull that's about twice the size of his actual head. And I think that's probably a good thing, really. People seem to be desperate to have one of the 2015 villains be ol' Makuta, but I think it would be better if they were their own entities, subordinate to him, but not a part of him. Let them have their own identities, not just be "Makuta in disguise".
  7. Well, using the GSR as a reference again, his hands are huge. I like the connectors as hands better than the Glatorian fists. In some cases, I even prefer them over the HF hands. Helryx isn't overly violent. She's pretty cold and methodical, and has one ruthless moment in the whole series (Going Nova in the GSR's brain to try and stop Teridax). Annona isn't overly-violent either. She fights the Skakdi Fusion, but otherwise, she doesn't even do a whole lot: She just eats dreams and drives people mad. Malevolent, yes, but that's it. Gorast is psychotic and aggressive, but then you get Gavla, who is aggressive while corrupted, but more distant and lonely because she thinks her fellow Av-Matoran don't like her. Dalu is aggressive too,but there's some nuance to it: She's become more violent after the terrible life she's had. Meanwhile, Kiina's not the bring-the-team-together-peacemaker character. Mata Nui and Ackar do that a lot more. Similarly, Takua is the one that united his company, while Gaaki is nervous and eager to prove herself. Krahka is a mysterious Rahi, that was initially an antagonist, and helped them occasionally, but never played Team Mom. Norik was the one pulling that duty in 2005. Hahli was shyer and quiet. Meanwhile we're all forgetting Gali, who did the Team-Mom-bit, yes, but also had her arguments with Tahu, her wiser, introspective moments (One of 2007's serials was told entirely through her eyes, which helped), and that time she blew up an island. Yes, Greg does tend to defer to these sort of stereotypical roles a fair bit. But they still have more to them than that.
  8. Makes me feel sorry for Slicer. Maybe we could see his living form eventually, since Lego might want to use the four-armed gear mechanic again.Or we might just have to MOC it when we get a good silver mask that fits 2015
  9. Well, she was a Femme Fatale, in a sense (Which is probably why she's often depicted as a Vortixx, or at least resembles one, in MOCs/art, despite never having been shown to be one). It's even none-to=subtely suggested that Nidhiki is attracted toher in Birth of a Dark Hunter (Yet another thing that comes across as awkward after Greg dumped romance for no reason). The Mata Nui Robot was, canonically, 40,000,000 feet tall. THe prototype seemed to be about up to its shoulder, but not as bulky- it was much slimmer in build. You could probably make some reasonable to-scale MOCs by putting a Mata Head on an Inika torso and a 2015 head and Metru or CCBS limbs on a Mata torso. As an aside, looking at the render of the GSR, its hands are level with its knees, and its torso is fairly short. I think it's pretty safe to say that OG Bonkles are supposed to have long arms. Never understood why BZP always harped on that, when it was obviously a deliberate design choice.
  10. In terms of the whole "Greg can only write women as Team Moms and Femme Fatales, what about: Helryx, Annona, Gorast, Gavla, Kiina, Krahka, Hahli, Macku, Dalu, and Gaaki, Dalu even has this line: "Right, I'm sure where you came from, Ga-Matoran are all gentle peacemakers who never raise their voices. That's what they ... we ... were like where I came from too. But I have news for you, sister — this isn’t Metru Nui. We don’t have time to be polite. It's fight, or end up like them." Sorry about the links, not sure how to remove them.
  11. Ekimu looks glorious. Instant-buy for me. I've been thinking about the Legend a bit. OKay, so Ekimu gets all the love from the Okotan because he makes the best masks. Makuta goes nuts and makes the MoUP because he's jealous. Doesn't it seem like ol' Makuta's working with the cruelest handicap? His skill at creating masks is being judged directly opposite the guy wearing the Mask of Creation!
  12. These look awesome. I think maybe Onua's legs should be a tad chunkier, but otherwise he's perfect.
  13. Fear Factory: We build jump scares. (Sorry, couldn't resist) Anyways, trans-Gali mask. Hopefully it'll see more distribution, but TBH, I think it will be more useful for MOCing than as an alternate mask for Gali.See, the masks with the Skull Army and the trans-reddish-orange MoF look just fine on their respective Toa, because the mix with the trans colour on said Toa. But Gali's is trans blue, and all the trans on her is trans-neon-blue. I think they should've made Gali's trans regular trans-blue, and kept trans-neon-blue to the Ice sets.
  14. Oh dear. Still, look at the beautiful description of the BIONCLIE figure. Best toy ever.
  15. Oh hai, welcome back DV. I actually really liked Dark Mirror and The Kingdom. However, I enjoyed in the same way that I enjoy alternate universe fanfics, more than I do with the actual canon setting. I like the Kingdom mainly for Matoro, though. I liked Dark Mirror because I actually kinda enjoy the whole "Grimdark" thing in fanfics. I didn't mind the idea that Mata Nui was the same sort of size as Earth, but then again, it does make the internal islands disproportionately huge. Which itself wouldn't be a problem if Toa weren't the same size as slightly tall humans. The real scale issue I have with the MU robot is how it stands so much taller than the prototype. The comics, Mata Nui Saga, and the awesome CGI image from the website made it look like the prototype was about up to MU's shoulder. But then you see the concept artwork of the two together, and Mata Nui's at about waist height on Terry. I wouldn't call Chiara a psychotic femme fatale, though. She's violent, yes, slightly sociopathic, also yes, but otherwise not so bad.
  16. Bat-Greg. Somebody get onto make a minifig of that. Or fanarts. WHatever. Anyway, I think the problem with Orde is that Greg seems to find it easier to write men than women. So when the poll for the new team voted in two female elements, he quickly made an excuse to gender-flip one of them to make himself comfortable with the team dynamic again. It's worth noting that, while Orde says that the Great Beings intended Ce-Matoran after him to be more gentle due to being female, that's immediately cancelled out by Chiara being a bit of a sociopath. People focus on the Men = Violent, Women = Soft thing so much that they forget that such a belief was immediately proven wrong.
  17. Yeah, Kingdom!Tanma died, Prime!Tanma is still around.
  18. Greg is a good writer. I love his work on the main story. And more than that, he's a dedicated writer. I remember watching his interview with TTV, and he said that he'd re-written forty pages of a book because it had, until the rewrite, depended on him making someone out-of-character. Hey, even when he can't focus on Bonkle anymore, he still gave us a load of information, like Velika, or the Mahri escaping after the Skakdi Fusion fought Annona, or how Matoran are made. However, that's not to say he's without his faults: He has a tendency to not plan things out enough, which leads to some weird swerves (Ending of Brothers in Arms, anyone?), and then there's the small mater of him having trouble writing female characters, which led to the now-infamous Orde-and-Chiara thing. The latter only really started to stick out in The Yesterday Quest, but the former was a big problem in some of the serials, especially from 2008-onwards (Although I didn't read any of the 2009 ones except Reign of Shadows, because Glatorian and Agori are boring). However, he does that because, when he does plan out the story, he gets bored writing it, which would lead to random changes anyway. I think all he really knew in the last set of stories was Great Being = Velika. Of course, these arnn't his only failings: The fact that the serials post-07 gained similar bodycounts to a George R.R. Martin story could count as one of them- Some characters like Dark Mirror!Takua and Kingdom!Tanma were literally only there to die and make the readers sad- but I don't think those were too jarring in terms of the setting. That said, I think we should probably discuss the ups and downs of Greg's writing in the Gen 1 topic.
  19. I'd like to see Metru blue again. I've got a load of classic characters like Hahli Mahri, Gavla, etc, which could really do with a CCBS-flavoured upgrade, but doing so is currently impossible. Shame, since I think Metru blue looks better.
  20. While the pistons being on the outside looks good from the aesthetic standpoint, I still think there's something hokey about some of them. For example, in the Protector torsos, the accordian joint appears to be on the outside of a solid armoured carapace.
  21. That is pretty good. Hell of a lot better than "Random Nynrah Ghost experiment #568". It being Teridax would even justify the model's overwhelming hideousness, since Teridax can appear as a random jumble of parts with a Hau for a face.
  22. I think we had a conversation exactly like that last week, which spun off into an ongoing rant that got DV and Scarilian suspended. Yes, the contest is a bit... poor... so let's hope we'll get something better for the MoCr.
  23. CHanged my mind on the worst set: It's Morak.
