  1. Noob question: WHat's shiptember?
  2. Those look awesome, though Gali's does look a bit like an Elda/Faxon mix. #Hahliconfirmed2015!
  3. I've got a Toa of Psionics with a Kakama, the classic golden masks go pretty well with pearl gold. You cold also just use a blue mask, or the STars Hau, or ue glassic gold and a Kualsi.
  4. I don't mind blue pins much, sinc eblue is a pretty neutral colour. THe red ones bug me more, simply because the black ones look better. Generally, with a colour scheme, I like to stick to four major colours, max.
  5. It works for Superman because he's a guy in a suit. It doesn't work for the Glatorian and Agori because they aren't glowing neon androids in suits.
  6. All of the 08 Matoran did, but I was talking about the heads in comparison to the Metru head. Still, the Avotoran heads were designed for normal Masks, so the fact that the ball joint was visible through the face wasn't an issue, because you couldn't see the face.
  7. I personally love CCBS, I just wish I had more variety in colours. It's why I'm really hoping that Lewa does have Keetorange, and I'd like to see some dark blue. Dark red and dark green are good, but I'd want some more Metru colours. I think the Glatorian head was an improvement in some respects, and a downgrade in others. THe face itself was a rather unfortunate Iron Man lookalike, and the shape of the head meant that simply rotating it didn't provide a good head for a normal mask. Plus, the fact that they had faces lead to lots of open masks, exposing the face itself.THat was all well and good, except for the whole head being transparent part. No only did it give the Glatorian neon colour-scheme breaking heads, but you could see the black or grey ball joint through the head, spoiling the effect. And the light piping was a downgrade in and of itself. THe eyes of the post-08 heads seemed flat and lifeless next to the more focused eyepieces of earlier sets. I wouldn't mind seeing a helmet with a face again, but since the characters' masks are like their faces in Bionicle, I won't mind if the unmasked heads sacrifice a proper face for a connection point compatible with post-04 masks.
  8. I didn't realise that Lewa wasn't the second until I read the Nuva's page on the wiki in early 08. Seriously, Lewa's the core of Wairuha, and the apparent leader in the Phantoka adverts, along with being partnered with the leader of the Av-Matoran. And yet, Kopaka is the second in command? Okay, I get that Lewa's a bit unsuited to a leadership role... but so is Kopaka. Guy's constantly suggesting splitups in the comics and such. OKay, I get that "Let's split up and do our own thing, even though we get our megablocks kicked every time we try that" is a hobby for the Mata/Nuva, but Kopaka's the worst at it. If their personalities stay the same as they were in 01, then I want Gali or Onua to be the deputy in the reboot. At least they're smart enough to suggest working together. Actually, Pohatu is more suited to a leadership role than either Lewa or Kopaka.
  9. This is pretty off-topic... but I do have two of those. To my knowledge, you got a silver mask in every 2002 Mask pack, along with a Golden Mask and some Krana. So you've got a 1/6 chance of getting the Akaku.
  10. Whether something melts or burns depends on the object. Rocks melt, so does ice, so does steel, just from fire, if the fire is hot enough.
  11. We actually discussed the elements earlier in the topic, where I used some experience from my friend's D&D Bionicle game to show a Toa of Plasma. Of course, the standard core is the same: The Toa, Arcan to name-drop him, can create, control, and absorb Plasma. His secondary powers, however, are where it gets interesting. He has an increased resistance to fire and electricity, and he shrugs off heat-based attacks easily because his energy burns hotter than most other things and a cold wind won't lower his temperature enough to slow him. His first really unique power came at level 3, where he learned the ability to create gaseous orbs of superheated plasma, around the size of himself. WHile at first, I thought this ability was a bit useless, but it actually proved quite useful, both as a buffer to drop into a doorway with a Dark Hunter on the other side so that the party could regroup before he tried to kill us, and as a trap to make a team-mate's gravity powers more dangerous (He knows attract/repel, so he h spends most battles screwing with gravity to send the mooks crashing into solid objects, walls, ceilings, and each other. Very useful in that it not only stops several of them from attacking, but also frequently leaves them prone to being hacked up). Maybe it's just because I like elements like Plasma, Gravity, and Psionics, due to being more fun to mess around with, but I think dropping the elements back down to the original eight again would stifle creativity. I get that some of the extra ones are a tad weak, like Plant Life being a power nerf to Earth, but I think having these things as separate elements prevents any of them from becoming too overpowered. PLus, it means we can get characters that aren't just the same six elements again. I get the sense that the Element status of their powers gradually became the artefact, as more non-elemental abilities showed up, but let's not forget that the original six, even among themselves, have two extras which are just more solid versions of two other elements. If we wanted to take the element thing wholly literally, then we'd have four powers, and that would be it.
  12. The gender topic is dead. It splintered off into its own one ages ago.
  13. If they were rubber, then the bar clips would make the jumping function useless anyway.
  14. That's probably because those three have strong similarities as epic good-versus-evil fantasies, while MLP only has a real story approaching that tone during the first and last episodes of a season. There's a huge gap between Bionicle and slice-of-life shows. Just because some voice actors from the movies are in MLP, and both exist to sell toys to kids, doesn't make them the same, if those villains are barely a thing. Six heroes with individual powers fighting a dark villain isn't a thing that's unique. Six heroes is basically your standard five man band, plus the extra guy that always shows up, and villains often have shadow-based abilities because people are scared of the dark. It's not exclusive to the two franchises, and it doesn't make it a worthwhile point of comparison. Furthermore, I might not be a Power Rangers fan, but just from watching Linkara's recaps, I can tell that some of the seasons had solid character writing, while MLP's overexposure on TV Tropes has led me to conclude that their version of elements are only elements in the loosest sense of the word, while the Bionicle elements, and many other franchises that have elemental powers, use the actual elements and throw in a few extras to fill out numbers. The MLP elements are more like Dragonballs or Chaos Emeralds than legitimate powers, a set of macguffins to break out whenever the villains get uppity.
  15. Thread is dissolving into ponies... http://x4.fjcdn.com/thumbnails/comments/gt+upstanding+african-american+gentleman+tries+to+rob+the+guys+house+_efb7f04c7c0bf00b63f4fe14b8027297.gif I merely jest, but seriously, ponies being brought up every other post is starting to get irritating.
  16. Sets come before story, though. If the set designers had made Turaga, we would've got Turaga.
  17. I'd kinda like Jaller to have a bit more authority. Takua... I dunno. But I hope any character he has is more like MNOG than the movie. Blue new Pakari, please.
  18. I have to say that, at first I missed the Mata Nui setting. After watching LoMN, I wanted to go back to the surface in 05, and I found the real 05 setting a disappointment. The thing I liked about Metru Nui was the thriving metropolis of it, the idea of the secret-police-esque villains (The Vahki were bad sets, but as an enemy army, they were nice. Unshakeable robots with varying forms of mind control beam? I like it), and the fact that the Toa and Matoran actually felt at home there. The change of it into a bombed-out wasteland was annoying. I also felt that Voya Nui was like an evil counterpart to Mata Nui. Tropical island? Well, this one's a hellhole! Then there was Mahri Nui, which made the underwater theme work much better than I expected it to be. And Karda Nui, at least the airborne part, was awesome too. The swamp was alright, nothing particularly gripping, but it was okay. And then we got nothing but desert. Yawn.
  19. I think the advantage of Mata Nui was that it felt more flowing, as opposed to the later years being more episodic. Really, aside from the Mctoran and the Mata, any of the sets from those years could interact with any of the others and it wouldn't really be too far from canon.
  20. Interesting. Still a terrible voice, though.
  21. Had a random thought about the Hydruka. I think they should've switched the places of Sarda, Idris, and the Hydruka. Sarda and Idris would've been suitable as Matoran on their own, just give the four of them different weapons to make them less weak, and replace their arms with the Mata legs so they can have wrists. Maybe make Idris a Ko-Matoran and add Kyrehx and Gar as other sets, because more Mask recolours. Then we can have the Hydruka in with Karzahni. But not as grumpy cattle with guns, oh no. They're lizards. Salamanders even, if you want to add a fiery theme. And they're Karzahni's pets. The fiery theme would be because they'd be restrained by more of the flaming chains. He was supposed to have a Rahi army, after all, and he had more than just Manas.
  22. Obviously, Takua should have his game voice. It is by far the best portrayal *Shot*
  23. I'd prefer Gali to sound a bit more like Nokama, or, to breach the franchise, maybe Arcee? Just someone that makes her sound a little younger and sharper.
  24. Frank Welker's stint as TFP Megatron was good, and it would be pretty awesome, but I'd just be hearing Megatron, not Teridax. I'd say the same here as with Welker. We wouldn't hear whatever character he played, we'd just hear Optimus. Although I can kinda hear him as Ignika.
