  1. HF seems to be falling apart, honestly. the books are cancelled, the loose ends are ignored, and the whole thing is going nowhere. By this point, it seems like the heroes have had more new bodies than they have personlity traits.
  2. I got both Mata Nui's and liked them. The only problem I had with the titan was the overload of colours, and the small set was basically the only Glatorian set that I didn't see as a pack of parts for building more Toa. Of course, both are currently dismantled, but I might rebuild them one day.
  3. Since when has HF ever tied up loose ends. If they didn't start after Breakout, what with Von Nebula escaping and all, they wouldn't now. That would be like if Bionicle had announced Teridax's return, then ignored that thread and made a wave of rogue Bohrok. And then instead of facing the Bahrag, the Toa went off to play Pacific Rim with some oversized Rahi. In fairness, Bionicle actually did do that, set-wise. Teridax took over the MU, everything was going to be epic, and then Bara Magna happened. A bland, boring Tatooine-knockoff, with non-powered organic Toa and douchebag not-Matoran, where they just had arena battles because Gladiator or something. Sure, we had a story update in Reign of Shadows... but the sets never focused on the MU after 08, so we missed out on things like Light-Makuta Teridax, or Shadow Takanuva, or new Exo-Toa and Rahkshi, or anything that would've made Bionicle epic. But nope, Bara Magna, and then the line goes under almost immediately.
  4. It's a decapitated MU Robot? The MU Robot was destroyed via headshot... TERIDAX CONFIRMED
  5. Makes total sense if you consider old Bionicle lore. THe Toa have powers- Tahu doesn't need a gun because he can use his hands as flamethrowers. On the other hand, Av-Matoran and Kra-Matoran are the only pre-Toa members of the species who can use elemental powers, so they'd need projectile weapons of a more conventional variety.
  6. In terms of the new blasters... On one hand, eh, guns are back. I always felt that the guns were silly because the Toa had elemental powers. SOmetimes, they justified it. Other times, they didn't. On the other hand, Mahri revamps with decent-scaled cordaks.
  7. There are no brakes on the hype train. Looking at the samey Matoran masks, all I can think of is the Bohrok, and how they were all depicted with Tahnok's face shield and Krana Xa, yet had unique faceplates and randomized Krana. *Edit* Linked the TTV reaction video on my DA page. Toohyped.
  8. If they were going to end it in 08, then I think they would've made Icarax's set a new Teridax instead, or maybe Takanuva's?
  9. I personally miss things like Metru limbs, and I'd rather have shells with a bit more detail like those.
  10. Uh... that's exactly what I'm saying. Latter-year Bionicle sets had diverse builds among their canister sets, breaking the mold with sets like Takadox, Bitil, and Strakk. The heroes are almost clones. It doesn't help that HF sets are so often lacking enough shells, or big enough shells.
  11. Seconded. Bionicle had a whole universe, and I think it only became more diverse in later years. For all the nostalgia that 2001-2003 have, the canon was very closed. Everyone aside from the Kakama-wearing generics had a name, and there was only one island, six Toa, six Turaga, and we didn't know that the three were merely multiple forms of the same race. But then, come 03, a Matoran becomes a Toa, and at the end, we find out that the Turaga used to be a Toa as well. THen the MU opens up, and suddenly, there are hundreds of Toa, more than the original seven elements (Fire, Water, Air, Ice, Earth, Stone, Shadow), billions of Matoran, and other races that aren't just mindless animals. THere's a bunch of mysterious bounty hunters, a race of psychotic mad scientists who won the superpower lottery, and a mysterious group who serve the Great Spirit. Now there's more than enough variety with the universe to make your own Toa. THe only limit that there was on creativity was Lego telling us that all the girls had blue armour. That's literally it, and since they had secondary colours, you could simply put more white on a Vo-Toa, more gold on a Ce-Toa, and even then, Toa aren't the only beings with elemental powers, so you can build something red and female with fire powers if you like. Bionicle's universe only got more open and customizable in later years. HF, meanwhile, is nowhere near as good. The heroes are far closer to being clone sets than Bionicle had in its twilight years, and while you can be creative with the villains, the universe isn't dark enough to make them actually charismatic. Okay, both Kalhiki and NickonAquaMagna created excellent HF comics, but they're rather different in terms of tone from the main canon, and couldn't be slotted nicely into the official universe. However, if you look at a series like Scottjt's The Hydros Chronicles/Society of Guardians and Sands of Change, they can fit quite comfortably into the canon as a series of events going on behind the scenes that Greg and the other writers gave us. Bionicle is a deep, well developed universe. HF isn't. The books are basically the only good storyline we get, and those are cancelled.
  12. Sounds awesome, but maybe have two masks in each set, just so someone who is only getting one of each colour hopefully won't end up with two having dupes. I can remember being ticked that my Kohrak-Kal had the same Krana as my previously-obtained Pahrak-Kal, and you can't even see the Krana in them (Though in fairness, it was partially because the Bohrok-Kal comics already showed that Kohrak-Kal had Krana Su-Kal). Also, if the Matoran end up being specific characters, who would you like to see come back? Personally, I want Jaller, Hahli, and Kongu. I'm not too sure about Matoro. He's my favourite character, but maybe bringing him back wouldn't work so well?
  13. I can remember Tahu wanting to use two-man teams to cover more ground in the first book, as opposed to going alone. And I kinda understood the split after they became the Nuva, they thought that they were powerful enough to face everything alone. But the rest of the time, yeah, Gali and Pohatu seemed to the only ones who learned anything prior to 08.
  14. The whole lack of individual goals came more from the "One destiny" part of their tagline than any specific fault. I think the closest we had was Kopaka trying to get the job done with as little interaction with Tahu as possible.
  15. Macku had a Huna, not a Kaukau. We'd probably get Hahli over Macku, though, considering that she ended up being a much more recognised character, and she does have a Kaukau. Though speaking of Macku and poorly-made fakes, I can remember a rumour that got a mild following on Youtube in mid-08, claiming that the maker of the video had been leaked (presumably through their uncle who works at Lego and Nintendo) the identities of next year's "Toa", who would be version of the Chronicler's Company. While it was fake, it would've been nice to get some recolours of the Metru's masks, like the Great Ruru in red, the Great Huna in blue, etc.
  16. All of my this! Even if we don't get the Mahri, I'd at least like their Matoran forms to come back. Although... Matoro might be awkward, what with him being dead in the original timeline and all.
  17. I would buy both of those.
  18. That's pretty good. Remember, the staves that each group carried were meant to be defensive weapons, not canes.
  19. That's all well and good, yet Mata Nui, as well as several of the Toa, and Ackar (Who notably is and old geezer but doesn't sound like it) still manage to sound wise and experienced, yet they don't. They still sound like they're capable. Except, as Kalhiki said further up the topic, there were clues to Takua becoming the Toa of Light in MNOG. Major plot details like the existence of Light as an element that Toa/Matoran could have were there from the get-go. Despite Greg's preference for writing things as he goes, Bionicle's Matoran saga was ridiculously well-planned out. They knew what they were doing. Plus, the aging = transformation metaphor doesn't really work, considering that Makuta transform all the time, some Toa never were Matoran (The Mata and Helryx, for example, along with the Toa Hagah of each Makuta), and presumably, there were Turaga who were built as Turaga.
  20. The problem there is that Takua is much, much older than any of the Turaga, being one of, if not the first Av-Matoran, who were essentially the Super-Prototype of the Matoran race, having access to their powers and both genders. Yet Takua shows no signs of aging, while the much younger Turaga are suddenly crochety the moment they stop being Toa. As for the Rahaga, they're literally meant to still be Toa in their prime. While I get that the transformation is twisting them, I think they would be creepier if they had normal voices. While Norik's is mostly okay, Gaaki literally sounded like my grandmother, Bomonga didn't sound much better, and Iruni just laughed and never spoke. I'm not sure if the other two even spoke. The other issue I have is that the movie portrayals clash with the other portrayals of the characters, especially the Metru Turaga.
  21. Well, he wasn't all that old before 03. If you look at his set art, and the way he carries himself in the Templar animations, he's always upright, carrying his staff by the end of the pole. It's just the movies that turned the Turaga into old geezers. And then did the same with the Rahaga. And Raanu. It was especially ridiculous with the first two. The Metru go from being new Toa in the prime of their existence to crochety old men (and one woman) in two seconds, complete with vocal change. The Rahaga do the same, and then turn back later.
  22. Personally, I'm fine with inhuman feet if it makes the figure more stable. As I said in the Inika topic, they aren't humans. Some of them don't even have toes, and I find the Bionicle foot pieces have always looked better than the HF ones.
  23. True, true. I suppose we might see the old Mata feet return, then.
  24. The molds for the original BIONICLE parts have been destroyed/buried under a car park.
  25. Making the Toa Mata become Legacy Characters might be cool. That way, even if the real ones keep the original gender, then a fan can easily make an R63 version, and it wouldn't be canon defilement.
