  1. So that's why the Matoran's limbs in MoL look like the Toa arms and not the Bohrok ones... they were originally meant to have Toa arms...
  2. It looks like every non-Matoran set comes with a gold mask. LOSS gets a gold version of the one that makes the SS body, by the look of things.
  3. I have to say that I did like functions on the larger sets, just not the humanoid ones. Probably because I like vehicles where all the landing gear or all the wings move in unison.
  4. I'm not sure what good a function would be. It's an unpopular opinion, but I really disliked the functions on the older sets, because they caused a limit in posability and articulation. Sure, they could swing their arms around a lot, but it looked rather silly to me. These elite warriors looked less like they were engaged in fights, and more like they were swatting at nearby bugs. And the villains always ended up really floppy in the midsection. Yes, I was a boring child. At least with the Nuva, you could lock them in place easily, but no such cure existed for the later sets. It also made the torso pieces overly specialised, since they were basically big gearboxes with a few pinholes in them. I've found use for Metru torsos as limbs, but have had no such luck with the others. TL;DR, I'd rather the functions didn't return.
  5. They;re shoulder guards.
  6. Makuta Kojol stole it from the Island of Artahka, where it had just been forged. He was then killed by Tobduk, as was every other being that aided the assault. The Hagah stole the Mask from Teridax, were turned into the Rahaga by Roodaka, but escaped, and sealed the mask somewhere on Metru Nui with a Makoki stone. The Toa Hordika were tasked with finding the pieces of the stone, which they did, and then claimed the mask. The Visorak attacked, so Onewa used his Rhotuka to encase it in rock, for safe-keeping. Vakama then put it in the Lava Break when they arrived on Mata Nui, where Takua would later find it.
  7. I liked the propellers. Useful for flying, could close into drills, and also play turbine-blender. As for the colour, yellow and orange toys probably sell better than brown ones. They're bright, eye-catching colours, while brown isn't. Rocks also come in a wide variety of colours, look at gemstones. Toa of Stone could theoretically be a wide variety of colours and it would still make sense. With the Makuta, the Brotherhood was revealed in 04. "Come, join my brothers and me." - Teridax, LoMN. Hence why Teridax was then referred to as The Makuta of Metru Nui until his name was revealed during the Mutran Chronicles. Furthermore, Icarax was kicking around in 07 too. He appears in one of the stories, delivering the Staff of Artahka to Teridax, and he appears in the Toa Nuva Blog, where he curbstomps the whole team, is stated explicitly to be an even more capable and threatening combatant that Teridax, and tanks a Nova Blast strong enough to obliterate an entire island, though he did get swept away by it. Not to mention that this was intentionally planned from the start. The whole thing with Teridax being Mata Nui's brother was a metaphor: They were brothers in the sense that close bonds between Matoran are referred to as brothers or sisters- they're not related, they simply share a goal. Teridax was always intended to take control of the Matoran Universe Robot, while Mata Nui took a second one, he just ended up going about it the wrong way.
  8. That's more like sailing, though, being pushed along by the wind, as opposed to true powered flight.
  9. Lewa couldn't fly, though. He could glide, and manipulate the thermals he was gliding on to stay aloft, but it was Not Quite Flight, as opposed to true flight. The only way for a Toa to achieve true flight without the Adaptive armour upgrades is the Kanohi Kadin, which is why Kongu got annoyed in 06 when Nuparu could fly and he couldn't. Being a Toa of Air doesn't grant the ability to fly, and never has. The Toa having jetpacks in 08 made total sense. They were in an environment where there was either no ground, or the ground was not safe to stand on. If Lewa had used his standard "Mask power and air manipulation" trick, he would've had to do it permanently, which would've exhausted him. The jetpacks were essential in that they enabled him to keep aloft while using his powers for combat, as well as reducing the strain on his power- It was far more practical to use those instead of the normal method. And if the others couldn't fly, then 08 would've been "Lewa gets murdered by the quintet of airborne Phantoka Makuta, while his team mates cling to a cliff-face and shoot ineffectually at them."
  10. I can remember back in something like 2011, there was a BZP topic about "If Bionicle were to return at the cost of HF, would you take it?" It was an interesting topic, just to see the reactions.
  11. I always thought that the tribal aspect was a little awkward. They always felt much more at home in Metru Nui, and, of course, that was wholly intentional.
  12. Ignition is still my favourite saga, and I thought its villains were just fine.
  13. I have to agree that the complexity will slowly return. Using the Sonic comics as my punching bag/example again, it was mentioned in an interview before the launch of the freshly rebooted continuity in issue 252 that the writers were trying to retool the dynamics with the characters so that Sonic was firmly in the spotlight, and wouldn't be outclassed by Princess Sally again. THe problem there is that the reason Sally eventually eclipsed Sonic in the old timeline was not because the writers overused her (Though some of them definitely did), but because they could easily write her as a dynamic character, while all of Sonic's development was quashed by heavy mandates handed down by SEGA of Japan. Since that's still the case with the new comics, and, if anything, SEGA have become more tight-fisted with the mandates, it will happen again- Sonic, Tails, and Amy will gradually be outclassed by their western-derived comrades, because the latter group will develop and the former won't. A story, no matter how simply it starts, will inevitably become more complex and convoluted as it progresses, as new rules, lore, elements, and characters are added.Throwing a reboot at it might fix the issues for a while, but the complexity will seep back in unless they actively do something to stop that, and in this case, that wouldn't be good for the theme.
  14. On the subject of having the Toa of similar elements using their powers differently, it could be as simple as having one of them focus on using their physical abilites, augmented by their powers, while another is more about using the element itself, like one Fire Toa using burning hand weapons, while the other causes flame jets and firestorms.
  15. As mentioned above, the Kaukau and Miru were eventually claimed by every Toa Mata. In fact, Kopaka had a Hau before he even met Tahu. For a series about Unity, if the team have to split up every time they find a large lake or a big gap, then that's not unity. Better that they can all fly or all breathe underwater.
  16. Matoran-scale characters have never had powers. Toa have powers, so they don't need guns.I don't have a problem with the Mahri and Phantoka/Mistika all being able to breathe in water or fly, because it enabled them to have more varied settings.
  17. I'm glad CCBS is going to stick around. Especially since the "Make this bit move by spinning an axle" disappeared in 05, unless Icarax's weapon arm counts. I can agree with not having guns, though. That was dumb.
  18. 718, as of X/Y. And that's not counting the three hidden ones.
  19. I highly doubt that the Bionicle fanbase will ever get as bad as the Sonic fanbase, because LEGO won't ever make anything as bad as Sonic 06 or Sonic Chronicles, nor are they going to allow a trillion third parties to make their own canons, of which maybe three at most don't suck. That said, there are a few Genwunners in the Bionicle fanbase... but they already dislike everything past 03, so I don't think they'll much care if 2015 isn't accurate to 2010.
  20. Just acquired the Battle on Saleucami (Basically only to get Commander Neyo) and the Droid Gunship (Because Battlefront II). Both are pretty good builds, though the STAP in the former didn't go together properly, and the BARC is lower-quality due to trying to incorporate the new spring-shooter into the front. Still, I got it for Neyo, so I'm satisfied. The Gunship is pretty accurate, and nicely detailed, though the bombing gimmick isn't fantastic, the pilot is a normal B1 instead of a pilot droid, and it's undersized, not much larger than its contemporary Republic starfighters. Certainly, the Headhunter would outsize it entirely if I got one. Also, Chewie still has the classic Castle crossbow. Why. Still, it has functional landing-gear, appropriate weapon systems, and it looks great on a shelf, so I'm happy. Not sure what I want to get next.... Some OT stuff would be nice, I only have an A-Wing from there (Unless the IMperial V-Wing counts), at least in a state that counts as "Built", but its so overpriced (The new Snowspeeder is ridiculously expensive), I'll probably just go for more PT stuff.
  21. I think they could've done something good with Core Hunter, what with him being a heart-ripping slasher villain. But alas, he imploded.
  22. Even if there is something there, it's probably not a good indication of the character it will represent. Remember Matoro Inika on the 09 posters?
  23. No Teridax was a disappointment, but justified in the story. No excuse for not having models of the GS Robot and the Prototype, though.
  24. You could make a mini-sized Tren Krom with Kalmah's head, I suppose.
