Maybe something like Keetongu could be done, if we have sentient Rahi again? In WoS, he was clearly intelligent and communicated in some form or another, but he spoke in his own language, save for a few words.

Really hope it's Matoran and not Agori. The Matoran had something interesting about them, and they could become Toa. I think a fair few people might've MOC'd a Toa form for a favourite Matoran set in the past (I've made Nuhrii, Balta, and at one point, Toa bodies for all of the '08 Matoran). The Agori were just villagers, and few of them were actually endearing as characters.

If the Defenders are Turaga as opposed to Matoran, what does the fact that they're active and packing mean for their previous portrayal as crotchety geezers? Are they now more spry and active, or do they just have gatling guns for "Git off my lawn" action?

THe Toa don't appear to have exposed crotches in the pic, so maybe there will be new torso bones. Still hoping that they come in colours other than black.

Congratulations, Robianco, on the most beautiful response in thread history.

I'm hoping for Keetorange, mainly because my Selfmoc uses it, and I'd like to give him CCBS upgrade.

That works pretty well. I ended up with a custom torso, as I said. She had more depth to her torso, and narrower shoulders, as well as a waist pivot/ab crunch. However, the character that I have with this build at the moment is much taller than a Toa, so I need to find a way to bulk her up a bit more.

Yeah, they're probably painted white when factory-new.

THat topic was.... amusing. There was nothing there that couldn't be done with the Glatorian. I presume you mean the controversial "MOCing with Nuva Shoulders" method. Yeah, I did that. Except I then ended up building my first custom torso instead. Still despite the controversial side, I managed to get it looking pretty good/natural eventually.

I mentioned in brief during the 2015 Rumours and Discussion thread that I am currently involved in a Bionicle based D&D campaign, run via Skype and Roll20, based in a loose approximation of the pre-Toa Mata MU, and there were some rumblings of interest. So far, we've been playing a party of Toa, and it's gone moderately well. However, it's been hindered by the fact that, while Bionicle's setting, characters, and lore are perfectly suited to RPGs, our party has little grasp of the Bionicle mythos beyond what they can find on a quick BS01 search. Still, we've got through five of the nine planned adventures with only one death, and with relatively good gameplay. Of course, once the positive reactions started to appear, I decided to see if there is anyone here on EB interested in playing this? THere are a few things to address concerning this: 1) The rules need reworking. The game was built for D&D second edition rules, which the DM has now noticed the limitations of, and has resulted in pretty limiting rules with elemental powers, the most apparent being the limited amount of energy charges each character has. Put it this way, burning up all of your elemental reserves with a Nova Blast in this setting would probably melt a house, nothing more. He is currently looking at adapting them to run off third or fourth edition rules, which would create a much better system for characters with elemental powers and reasonable skills with a weapon. 2) Our DM would not be running it. He's going to Oxford university in September, and thus won't have time to run two campaigns, and he has a commitment to the group we're currently running with. Now, it could all collapse (We have three competant players. The fourth acts like an idiot every time he gets tired of his character, so they can be killed off, the fifth never shows up), but optimisitically, it won't. So we'd need to find a new DM to run it. Still, these hurdles are rather small in comparison, and all that leaves is the main question: Is anyone interested in this?

Am I the only one who really doesn't get the appeal of Slizers and Roboriders?

It's a good start, but the limbs are too thin, and the torso is too long and flat.

For me, definitive confirmation of legitimacy is better than clear pics. Also, price points, and definite names for the small sets.

In all seriousness, I prefer the smoother aesthetic with the modern sets to blocky ones. I've got my A-Wing, V-Wings, and Actis right here, and they don't have too many specialised parts.

The same artist made the same... with Jaller. Thankfully, the more popular Bionicle fanart is actually pretty good. Well, that or it's "This redheaded animu bishie with Naruto lines on his face totes looks like Tahu, right?" Nope.

It's the darkest official story, to my knowledge. As for "worse", I assume you mean "Hahli with gigantic tits" fanart. That probably won't come up on early pages. I;m not sure about you guys, but when I was a kid, my Internetting was heavily policed- I had to tell my parents where I was going, and I couldn't go anywhere else.

I made my RPG character's name, design, allies, enemies, home, everything, just from looking at Photok's mask for too long and deciding that I wanted to use it. The crazy thing is that I ended up not using it.

The problem isn't condensing what came before into a line of flavour text. That's easy. The problem is that any kid who only knows of the new stuff then goes on line, types in "Bionicle", and ends up on BS01. THen they have the original storylines all laid out, and it's all very confusing. Then they find Dark Mirror. Evil Toa everywhere, including the new line's heroes, heroic versions of the villains, and violent deaths left right and centre. If it's a reboot, it's okay, none of that matters anymore. If it's a continuation, it's canon, and that happy little robot toyline is suddenly really freaking dark again.

They're pretty white in BFII.

Am I the only one who doesn't think the Biggs minifig is that special? The helmet is really the only unique part, and it goes for less then £2 on Bricklink. The head is just a generic printing, for which there's probably an adequate flesh-toned substitute on another set out there. Unless you really want the authentic one, then the Biggs minifig is fairly easy to "acquire."

Except for he part where it was so convoluted that it got the series canned five years ago, you mean?

I think the Star Wars EU had to be shafted if they wanted to make more movies, and why wouldn't they want to make more movies? If a reboot works or not depends on who's writing it. Movie reboots? Yeah, those rarely succeed. Dark Knight saga notwithstanding, of course. In other media? It can be a different story: Using Transformers as an example, let's look at the original cartoon, compared to the IDW comics or the recent Aligned universe, which includes the WFC/FOC games, and the TFP cartoon. Both reboots are miles ahead of the original. I could argue the same for Transformers Animated too. Looking at those fics I mentioned earlier, while I can't speak for the first, as I'm a cowriter on it, the second two are miles ahead of anything that Sonic Team or Archie are putting out. A reboot can be equal to, or even superior, than the original. It just takes skilled writers. With the Ninjago reboot, they were simply un-cancelling it without a huge gap. Bionicle has been gone for five years. Picking up the original story isn't going to make any sense.

Yeah, people seem to be confusing "Reboot" and "Remake". Remakes retell the story. Reboots reset it to square one and then go in a different direction. For example, in the 2011-2012 period, there was a sudden spike in reboot fanfiction within the Archie Sonic fandom, because the actual comic was not only devolving into utter dreck, but it was also at such a point where you couldn't write an in-continuity story without it being about Mecha Sally. So people took the characters and reset the timeline, enabling the creation of a new universe. Of the five or so I was following/a part of writing, three are still ongoing, and all of them are damn good. But none of them remade the existing stories. Sure, there were adaptation arcs here and there, but otherwise, they're new universes.

If you think the new X-wings are too clean, then buy one and leave it in the sun. It'll go a nice bone white/off-white due to yellowing in time. Okay, speaking as someone who has never had the money to buy a Lego X-Wing... the models have been steadily improving since the original. Yes, the original model has the added value of being the original. However, the more recent X-Wings are much more impressive, simply because they look more accurate. As a child, I want the new one with the play features, and I would definitely care if I was handed the original instead... because it being the original would hold no value for me, and it would look less like what's in the film. As a collector, while the original would be nice, I'm only going to have limited display space, and I'd rather that I have the accurate one on show. Looking at another example, we have the A-wings. There's the original, the upgrade, and the newest form. There's no argument that the original, while a decent set, pales next to the upgrades. The second version has that "all important cart", and the new one (Being the one that I own) is the most accurate, featuring the real fighter's functioning landing-gear, accurate guns, and bifurcated nose. The pilot looks like an actual A-wing pilot too. Like the others said: What holds the most value is subjective. If you like the original because it's the original, and it has a random hover cart with it, fine. But you can't talk down to people who prefer a different set.

I might be able to get the rules for you, and when I post the relevant MOCs, I'll probably bring some anecdotes from the game so far, which I'll update when appropriate. THe only thing is that my friend made the Adept spells as they became necessary, so currently only Plasma, Fire, Gravity, Ice, and Magnetism have a full list. Lightning will be getting one soon, as will Psionics, because there's a plot-relevant NPC who is a Ce-Toa. I actually really like Psionics as an element (Psychic is my favourite Pokemon type too). It's best considered to be the easiest way to say "Telekinesis and Telepathy". Really, Psionics is among the most overpowered elements in the franchise. Immune to most forms of mental attack? Check. Can completely destabilize enemy groups? Yup. Brainwash people? Unethical, but yes. Never lose a weapon? Indeed. One of the best colour schemes? Hell yeah. Actually, I thought of something: We've been running this game via Roll20, which is a tabletop game site, and using Skype to communicate, because Roll20's chat is borked. How many people would actually be interested in playing a form of this?
