  1. Governor Guilder rose to speak. "Regarding Berreli, I can at least confirm that Nova Terreli's royal fortress did in fact aid Pontellii's defense against the Mardier raid, so our defenses are better there than I initially believed." "As for our war aims, might I urge my fellow councilmembers to discuss this in a private session? I have thoughts on this matter, but would prefer to discuss them away from the press."
  2. That's what I figured, but your post was a bit confusing. Always on the lookout for ways to waste my DBs!
  3. KB, this is not true. There is no place on the form to name your troops. There's a place for the player's name, the amount of troops, and location, but the troops do not get named. kurigan, I'm glad you're looking at taking the plunge! And, yes, it's quite intimidating. Ayrlego's advice is almost spot-on what I was going to say. I would add that, if you're having trouble deciding on a faction, keep asking questions in this thread or one of the faction threads until you get the answers you need. Once you decide on a faction, you'll be included in a faction-wide PM that will get you connected to faction activities that aren't immediately apparent otherwise. @Phred, can you take Ayrlego's post above and pin it as a "Quick Beginner's Guide to BoBS" or somesuch?
  4. Are you selling a plantation? I'll buy it.
  5. The MCTC has made a 100DB donation to the Royal Society, and has licensed the dock as a commerce property.
  6. After some back room discussions, It has been determined that La Sombra includes only what is shown on the official map. @gedren_y, you may want to move stargazing, as some of the land masses we thought were islands ... aren't, when you look at the official map for the big island that can be found here (see the second map, from Ska).
  7. This topic has been taken up for discussion in leadership. There are good arguments on both sides. We'll get it sorted out.
  8. Yep, the turret is my design, and you probably saw it here from challenge 2. Glad you liked it! What would you consider sufficient compensation? The MCTC was discussing donating funds to the Royal Society for licensing rights...
  9. Far Horizon is mine, the others are MCTC.
  10. 55 for Wolf (from Capt Wolf)!
  11. Add Far Horizon (4T2), Prince Fernando (5T), and Jon El Flurry (4T2) to the Double Duty.
  12. Lovely ship and build! I must echo others on their compliments on this ship. She does look like a speedy vessel suited to her task! And the city gate for Fuerte Unido is very stylish! We certainly want to license this build (I would suggest licensing it as a medium commercial build for the dock, as fortification licenses raise other EGS issues). Let us know whether you want to license it or would leave it to us.
  13. Nice build, especially the entrance, as others have noted. And if you didn't have the entrance, it would make fine quarry scene. Great use of the BURPs. Good luck on the results!
  14. Nice little build. Simple subject, but well done with appropriate detail, and a good way to set up stories and adventures to come!
  15. Excellent build, and sorry I didn't get around to commenting earlier! I love the subject matter, and especially like your depiction of the horse pulling the felled tree. I'm also intrigued by your use of the green flower/round plate piece for the grass between the stones on the path. That's really well done! Same goes for the top of the palm tree on the left; very interesting design!
  16. Interesting topic and a good build! Excellent storytelling, too! The sparse grass looks great for the beach, and I like your use of clear cheese pieces in the water. Excellent minifig posing, too, including the recently departed. Nicely done!
  17. Great scene! The beach is particularly well detailed. I like the rockwork; it's just the right amount (whatever that is! ). Excellent vegetation. And I'll have to take a closer look at that boat and figure out how to steal it build it myself. Another great build from you!
  18. Guilder shuffled through his papers, found what he was looking for, and cleared his throat. "As for the issue of growth of our colonies, I have identified the settlements most in need of new building, or at least that could put that building to most effective use quickly. Bardo needs only 5 more properties (1 commerce, 2 factories, 1 educational, and 1 art/culture build) to become a large town, and with that could build another fort. Elysabethtown needs 6 more properties for the same (1 artisan, 1 factory, 1 art/culture, and 3 of anything). Nova Terreli needs 3 factories to grow to city status. Pontelli is woefully underprotected and could build another fort today, but could build a third (or larger) fort with the addition of 9 more properties (2 artisans, 1 commerce, 3 factories, and 3 residences). Fuerte Unido needs 14 more properties, and I could go on. Now that we're subsidizing property builds for a few months, these are the locations that could benefit most, and would strengthen our defenses as a result."
  19. Willem Guilder turned to the MAESTRO delegation: "Thank you for joining the fortification committee, General Samu. A military man is appropriate for this." Aaron van der Meede, who had stepped out earlier, now returned to the council hall and handed some papers to Gov. Guilder. "Thank you Aaron." Guilder thumbed through the papers quickly. "Hmm, yes, yes." Then he looked up to address the full council again. "I have here an accounting of all our settlements, with fortifications, settlement size, and what those settlements need to do to grow. Addressing fortifications for the moment, towns can have up to two forts. Salida Este already has 2 small forts, as does Elysabethtown, but Trador can build an additional fort. Pontelli appears to have only 1 small fort and could build another. Montario has no fortifications and has the capacity for 2 forts. Fuerte Unido has 1 medium fort, which has been the understood limit in the past (1 medium fort equaling 2 small forts), but the continental council is about to change that. Nova Terreli could also add fortifications beyond its royal fortress if desired. The hamlet of Puerto Alijo should have a fort as well, although at this time that settlement is but a single residence." "Once the continental council confirms the lifting of restrictions on the size of fortifications, medium or large forts could be built in any settlement with the capacity to add a fort. OR, old fortifications can be torn down and replaced with newer, larger ones. So we have several options."
  20. No, don't apologize! I'm sure I stole it from somewhere else. Just glad it worked for you! It's from BrickForge, they do them in several colours I think the bulkiness of their cows suits a plough driving beast well! I will second this. I have a couple of tan cows from Brickforge as well. I love 'em! They make great oxen.
  21. Ah, right, prizes from the previous challenge. I was under the impression that they could only operate as class 5 until the new ship classes were posted? Is this not the case?
  22. Flipping this rule makes sense to me. As it is now, the rule encourages players to focus only on "their" settlement. I disagree. Active builders can already "win" (are already "winning") in the EGS, and the limits prevent them from "winning" by so much that nobody else is interested in playing. Isn't "winning" within the existing rules enough?
  23. because my call for more debate was too late... Willem Guilder votes NO. Aaron van der Meede votes NO. Philip Janszen votes NO. But we intend to raise the issue again in the council with a more focused proposal if the current proposal is defeated. --------------- As for even though the MCTC delegation believes this proposal could be better, we do not want to stand in the way of strengthening our navy, so Willem Guilder votes YES. Aaron van der Meede votes YES. Philip Janszen votes YES.
