[REVIEW] 40516 - Everyone is Awesome
Vindicare replied to Bob De Quatre's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I’m most excited for the orange, yellow, & blue hair pieces. The orange is one of my favorites. Never got the Stranger Things set, & that blue one is shrouded in mystery I can’t help but love it. If it had the pigtails piece from Harley Quinn(LEGO Batman movie one) this set would be perfect. Not much to say on the review because there isn’t much to it. But the showcasing of the hairpieces in a more close up manner is good. -
Where did I say I don’t like it? I’ve actually stated the opposite, a few times I believe. I can still like it & think the company hypocritical, it is a possible thing for people to do.

Santa Clause is a classic. Yes, all of that is linked to Christmas, but what else is? Jesus. Just as there’s plenty of people who don’t celebrate Christmas in that fashion, there’s also plenty who do. The WV Cottage could’ve came with a nativity print or sticker as yard decor, but they don’t do that. I can guarantee if they made a set this Christmas with a Christian theme to it or some nod to it, there would be plenty of complaints. Jabba’s Palace was pulled from shelves because of religious purposes, if I’m remembering correctly. Despite the set itself not having a thing to do with religion(outside of some design cues).

Please do...I’m all for conversation. Some people are harder to figure out than others. For whatever reason, some people just like to be hateful. That boils down to, I believe, a screen sitting between them & the other person(s). I’ve seen plenty of complaints, similar to what I have about it, is the...nature...of the message. It seems I make it too late to the really hateful comments online, but I can imagine. LEGO doesn’t do hot button topics like this. I recently saw a post on Instagram comparing this set as being “too political”(in a mocking sense) to the Indy set that had “Nazis.” I use quotations because as far as the set isn’t concerned they’re not Nazis, just generic soldiers. Because even putting a red band on an arm would be a lot to swallow for many people, despite its accuracy to the source. When you have a public forum such as this or social media, one should expect a number of views to hit a topic from all directions. (And to touch on your previous comment to me) I was referring to hot button topics, not simply sets and/or themes that don’t interest you. I should’ve made that more clear. There’s plenty of LEGO’s catalog that I wouldn’t buy that I don’t comment on, we all have those areas.

You’re both proving my point. People can hold different opinions & not be a bigot. Not wanting to see this set doesn’t make someone a bigot. Having an actual conversation with someone will do that. Especially on the Internet, you can’t always take things at face value. Your apparent inability to listen to other opinions could be seen as bigoted. But that’s only basing it off these single comments alone...not fun huh? I’ve changed my views on a few things based solely on talking to people. Clearly you’re not going to change hearts & minds of everyone you encounter, but taking a shot at it Taiwan too much effort? If they don’t listen, move on but at least you tried. I personally would rather they didn’t do this set, because it makes them look like hypocrites. As mentioned churches are something they will not touch. Nothing in Christmas sets showing Christian symbols. Not even a GWP.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Vindicare replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I was just imagining that tower of a building in the middle of one of streets, dominating the skyline. I love the can as well. You’re in luck, not caring for the superheroes, you can sell them & make a good chunk of that price back. -
I’d say your best bet would be Bricklink. They give a good breakdown of how a set has sold, how many have sold/currently for sale. Not sure how many Tour sets are there though, so that info may be very limited. Could be a place to start though.

YES! I never looked at reviews or even inspected them closely, I was shocked when I dumped the contents out & saw his head & helmet were different pieces. I was beyond excited. Definitely the best accessory in that series.

Not a great example, as it was explicitly stated in the movie that he had no father. I know a comic said otherwise years later, but not everyone reads or knows about them. That’s what had me excited too. I’m not much into displaying minifgs, other than having them scattered about my town, but I’ve always enjoyed pictures of people’s monofig collections. But I don’t remove appendages so I never got into it. This did all the work for me. I don’t love to see this continue & make one for each of their colors(olive green ). To those defending & seemingly not understanding why people are against it(for whatever their reason is), think of something you disagree with & are not a fan of. Now how would you feel if LEGO made a set of it? Would you just ignore it & go about your day or would you voice your opinion? I would hope you’d voice your opinion. All of this “oh, you’re against this? You must be a bigot or homophobe.” That doesn’t help anyone or anything. It’s the reason threads get locked & discussion ceases, because some people on both sides aren’t open to listening & see everything as an attack. There’s always going to be that minority that outright hates whatever it is, no matter the topic. There’s really no good way to handle them. Chances are they aren’t open to hearing & insulting them will do no good. If society ever hopes to actually make progress, this seeing the “other side” as the enemy has to stop. You’re likely to learn a lot more from people you disagree with than those you do. It certainly has for me. Apologies for the preaching,..I just hate this sides garbage that only further divides our world.

As to the question of no dads in sets, that’s something I have no idea about because I don’t work there. Maybe that’s their next step. Loving the insults & semantics in the rest of time comment. Differing views people have doesn’t mean they’re homophobes. You stating it that way makes it seem like everyone against this set is one. I think the set itself is great. I don’t like the messaging behind purely because the company shies away from it. It’s the same reason we don’t have military themes or Christian symbols in WV sets. Because those are political & being the ire of folks of they’re going to stay away from it, do it. Or, dive right in & make more of this to other groups. Equality, right? I’m not feigning ignorance at anything. Speaking for myself, I couldn’t care less what a description on their website says, I never bother reading them. I don’t have kids, but I’m going to assume that box art places a higher factor in what they want than a description on a website, but perhaps I’m giving kids too little credit. To the Town Hall, who’s to say that either one of them isn’t transgender? Trans people identify & want to be labeled as what they are, do they not? So would it not be accurate to state “bride & groom?”

I don’t know...but it is fantastic! I can’t wait to see what it appears in. If it’s Licensed, I can’t place it. And the bowl cut in yellow has me excitedly too.

I’ll address the first sentence...well, first. As sad as it is, yes, being gay is political, in a sense. If it weren’t places but like the Middle East wouldn’t be a thing. It shouldn’t be that way. But neither should be crosses in WV sets...yet we don’t see those. Now, the rest. Of course Ron & Hermione are depicted as such, because they have a set story attached to them. City, for example, does not have that story to back it up. I’ll use 60283 Holiday Camper Van as an example. It depicts a woman with a camera & baby bottle & a man holding a baby in a carrier on the box art. Back of the box shows the woman feeding baby while the man is in the RV, woman taking a nap while the man eats. Nothing there says couple. It could very well be brother & sister riding together while mom & dad/spouses are in another RV. It could be friends taking a trip together. They’re not seen sleeping together, or holding hands, or kissing. Nothing a coupe would do is shown on the box art. If you see a couple, that’s on you.

Not sure you should say they have a firm stand against oppression, considering they have a plant in China & sets that cater directly to them(which were formerly available to them). But that’s another discussion... I will say, until I read this thread, and we’ll after seeing the leak & taking a good look at it, I did not connect the color placement at all. They are represented in media & they certainly are represented in LEGO. Because YOU decide that. There’s zero distinction that X person is straight. You “write” the story being depicted on the box. This is still a strange stance for LEGO to take. Objective notwithstanding, they’ve shied away from stances many times over. One that sticks in my mind is Jabbas Palace. Some group whined about it & LEGO pulled it. Granted that was almost 19 years ago now, but it sets a precedent. Like the aforementioned Osprey & Crook Hideout. And the halt on police advertising. Although, one could argue by making all of those moves, they are being political...so who really knows.
-
When the Pride thing became apparent to me, I had the same thought, so much for not doing political sets... That’s a very good point that I didn’t even think of reading this thread. This likely won’t be sold in China, unless they can think of some cover story for it. And I don’t know the exposure or popularity of LEGO in the Middle East, but it applies there as well. Either way, it’s a pretty neat set idea. I don’t do the whole monochrome thing, but it’s cool to see them all lined up together.

Finally found 76188 Batman Classic TV Series Batmobile. Boy, I don’t know what happened at this Wal Mart though. Sets have been under lock & key for quite a few months now, but this was my first time buying since...and the set got escorted to the check out by an employee.

DC Superheroes 2021 - Rumors & Discussion
Vindicare replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
I can’t find it here in the States where I live either. It’s not even up on Target’s website, yet I see people online who got it. They’ve stocked other new sets, including Superheroes, so I don’t know what the deal is with set. -
Classic base plates being retired by February 2022
Vindicare replied to wesker's topic in General LEGO Discussion
My opinion on this is pretty much the same as it is for the new road plates...not a fan. As someone who has a decent sized city & all Modulars I don’t like the idea of having to replace them with something else. Or do the work around to get baseplates to work with the new roads. I cant see them doing away with baseplates completely though. A big point to the Modulars is connectivity. I do know one thing for sure, regardless if they’re going or not, this rumor has been great for baseplate sales. -
Between Animal Rescue ATV & Rescue Camp, all you’d need to buy separately are the baby elephant & snake. Those two sets are t bad at all.

That’s my worry as well...I bought both bulldogs & retrievers & they were about $2.50 each, which isn’t terrible. I imagine the monkeys & lion cubs will be that price, but the lion & elephants(especially the adult) are gonna hurt.

This is great! I love all the action. The destruction is well done & looks very natural. The Juggernaut looks fantastic. I can imagine designing him, you nailed the head I think. He has a great expression.

Found them today & grabbed a few. I love them but the molded heads still feel very odd to me. Just very un-LEGO like. They are fantastic though. I’m gonna spoiler this in case there’s others who haven’t seen review yet

Grabbed my most wanted Looney Tunes CMF’s: Bugs Bunny, Sylvester, Wile E. Coyote, Daffy, & Marvin

I suppose since it hasn’t been changed, Flying Lesson is actually coming out August 1st. Which begs the question...why is it up already?

75979 Hedwig- finally got her, and only because I found a fairly wrecked box & got 40% off(plus 10 from the B&N membership).
