What parts are you using for the door, the front radar dish, the holder for the hook at the rear and the red things which the steam driving rods attach to? Also, what parts are you using for the minifig torso on the one guy? And what is that black track piece from? -
Slowly adding more details to this, will post some new pictures soon :) Still need design ideas for a tire rack and ideas for what to do with the top of the roof (both the shop roof and the driveway roof) and maybe for for the price board.

Thanks for the tips, I added a security camera (modeled after one in one of your ANZ bank MOCs). And for the air&water, I took inspiration from your Shell roadhouse for that. As for pricing signage, because making and printing stickers is hard (and because I dont have a clue if my printer works right now or if the expensive ink has expired and needs replacing) I am thinking of building a tall sign with just Octan logos (similar to the Shell sign on your Shell roadhouse and also to a Shell sign that used to be at a Shell station near me before it was rebuilt and got a full signage board) then use the trans-blue signage board flag from the last City Octan gas station set. And on the station roof, maybe some lights on the underside could work if I can come up with an idea that looks good (ideas would be appreciated) but what I am really stuck on is what to do for the top surface of the roof as right now its totally blank and boring.

What part(s) are you using for the tank at the back?

Have tiled the interior of the shop in light bluish grey 2 x 2 tiles in a grid pattern. Also changed the petrol pump hoses slightly and added a "service" sign to the service bay and replaced the black underside of the roof area over the pumps with white. Haven't figured out what to do with the front of the station other than a place for the tanker truck to unload its load. Thought about an air&water point and a tire rack but cant come up with good designs for either :( Thinking about how to mount a security camera pointing at the counter area to catch armed robbers. Also need to figure out what to do with the empty expanse of roof (e.g. more Octan signage, maybe the Octan flags I have)
-
I have been thinking about how I can put some security cameras in (forget mirrors, security cameras are where its at these days) but haven't found a way and place to mount them that I am happy with yet.

Great idea, Might go ahead and see if I have enough white tiles to do the job (and maybe I can find a way to use my 2 x 2 Octan logo tiles in the floor too somehow) EDIT: I think I need to visit a few local-area stations to get a feel for what material/color they tend to have on the floor and use that as inspiration (not sure that white would work, a gas station wouldn't use white as dirt shows up too easily) Also thinking about doing a signboard sticker complete with the usual "save 4c per liter" type discount offer on it. But for that I need to also visit some petrol stations and get a feel for just what the price of petrol actually IS these days (not having a car means I dont actually need to buy the stuff :)

I might put a rack of tires out the front (in front of the gas pumps on the front group of studs), thanks for the idea.

Here is my latest MOC, an Octan petrol station built in the style of many petrol stations here in Australia. It features a convenience store and a place to get your car repaired. I am still working on further detailing such as more Octan signage and maybe some form of sign board listing prices etc if I can come up with a custom sticker for it. Need more detailing along the front of the driveway baseplate too. Front view showing the pumps, fire extinguisher, garbage bin and recycle bin. Top view: Side view showing off the Octan sign and the green and red striping: Overhead view: ' View of the pumps with the roof off. Note the RediATM sign indicating that one can find a RediATM ATM inside the convenience store: View of the front of the shop with a place to get your BBQ gas bottle refilled, some newspapers for sale and some various brands of oil, engine coolant and other fluids (including some Octan branded products in the red and green containers) View of the pumps with a customers Lamborghini: Interior of the convenience store. There is a RediATM ATM in the corner as well as a coffee machine, fridges containing soft drinks, fruit juice, sports drinks, bottled water, energy drinks, milk etc plus shelving containing motor products, snack food, convenience items etc: Inside the store an employee is sweeping the floors: Another employee (safely behind the counter protected by the keypad entry door, alarms etc) is serving the owner of the yellow Lamborghini outside who is buying a coffee and some petrol (he is paying with a $100 note because the Lamborghini uses so much fuel :): Meanwhile the mechanic fixes another customers Ute: More views of the station: Please let me know what you think of my creation :)

Awesome T-Bone steak Makes me hungry just looking at it.

I dont mind the green street sweeper and the fact that there is a prototype for it is even better.

I suspect there is nothing in that image that would be a surprise to someone skilled in the art of making precision injection molds. I doubt there is anything in there that is somehow special to LEGO and that isn't used by other makers of injection molded parts.

I saw the Battle of Hoth in Toys R Us yesterday... EDIT: No, wait, that was the Hoth Echo Base. -
I dont know about the gas stating hinting at future sets. But it DID inspire me to work on a new Octan gas station MOC :)

If anyone in Perth wants the Superheroes stuff, I saw the lot (including the Daily Bugle and the Tumbler set) at MYER in Carousel. -
Why doesn’t LEGO provide any battle packs?
jonwil replied to Elander's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I think the difference is that the Uruk-Hai battle pack contains enough building content to not violate the license. Whereas the kind of battle packs people want here (which would be more like the Star Wars battle packs) may not contain enough content to satisfy the license. -
Nice job, maybe I should try Crown Perth. But I doubt I could find a way to do the funky round window on the hotel part :( (that and I dont like Crown particularly much)

I saw on one of the business news programs a while back where there was a story about David Jones and its results. One of the things they said was that they are going to reign in their discounting (as well as exiting completly from music sales, movie sales and video game sales). So that doesn't bode well for those hoping to see a nice 20% or more off the modulars at some point. Also can anyone suggest the best place to buy the large grey baseplate from in Perth? Anyone got em on any kind of discount or sale? Any particular retailers more likely to have one than the others (I haven't seen any yet at the retailers I have visited so far) -

I don't know the details but I wouldn't be surprised if the LOTR license includes terms designed to ensure that LEGO doesn't produce products that compete with not just the action figure manufacturers (ala the Star Wars license) but with Games Workshop as the manufacturers of the LOTR fantasy battle game. -
The fire pack seems like a good way to get the chief torso if you weren't otherwise going to buy the fire station.
-
Looks like I called it on the bus stop sign :) And on the purple skateboard :)
-
I will clarify and say that I have never seen such things in WA (and I know of every LEGO retailer in this state)
-
That firefighter battle pack is awesome and would be a great way to bump up my firefighter collection if I was going to build a fire station, pitty such things never seem to make it to Australia :( The police pack is great too and would be a great way to boost your police force (in my case I would probably use the new City Undercover police as SWAT team guys since the vest and stuff makes em look more like that one)
