Thanks for the advice, I ended up with something based loosely on the 7720 design having found 3 of the hinge plates :)

Yeah 25% off is better. Not that I want anything anyway :) -

Not a particularly good deal, its only 12.5% off if you buy 2 items at the same price. -
Interesting design, that might work if I can find enough of those hinge parts (I forget how many I have)
-
I tried with the finger hinge but couldn't get things to line up properly (i.e. go up enough that it matches with the 4 bricks + 1 plate of my platform whilst going out enough to be at a suitable angle whilst still being stuck to the baseplate properly) The ramp made out of slopes is nice but I dont have enough slopes in the right colors plus I need studs to stick things to so slopes wont work.

I am building an island train station platform that's 4 bricks plus 1 plate off the ground. Its 16-wide but with 1 stud of plate overhang (i.e. the 4-brick-high wall is 14 studs wide) Does anyone have any ideas how I can build a ramp down from the platform to the ground? (or rather to track level where it will then have level crossings crossing both runs of track) I considered some plates placed at an angle but I dont know of a way to affix them at the right angle. The whole thing is being built in Light Bley if that matters.

Thats not Texaco, its Caltex (although Caltex IS related to Texaco). Caltex was formed in Australia by the US government during World War 2 to satisfy requirements for having multiple US-controlled suppliers for key military supplies. It was a joint venture between Standard Oil of California and Texaco (hence the name) although these days its a public company with no connection to any US oil company :)

I wasn't sure I wanted this set but now that I see this review I may have to change my mind. -
Nice job LT, never seen someone do a Caltex before :)

If all my Octan parts weren't tied up in my current gas station MOC (which is too big for the contest) I would build something smaller and make an entry :)

I think the Sea Captain hat will make a great hat for naval officers (especially if people start customizing it by panting on an insignia)- 1,076 replies

The Medusa will probably be packaged just like the Mermaid and Ocean King from the previous series in terms of the tail and stuff.- 1,076 replies

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 10 Discussion

At this point I am interested in Librarian x 1 Decorator x 2 (like the plumber from S9 the painter has a nice accessory that I can use for my hardware store MOC when I get around to building it) Sea Captain x 1 (or maybe 2, the hat and seagull and black binoculars are cool) Baseball Fielder x 2 Sad Clown x 1 (maybe) Trendsetter x 1 (maybe 2, that Chihuahua is cool, as is the mobile phone) Motorcycle Mechanic x 1 (maybe 2 because of the seriously cool head) Grandpa x 1 (gotta add the new newspaper to my collection, not to mention the glasses face and the bald head, just wish he was happier) Paintball Player x 2 (the paintball kit will go good in the surfing/skating/snowboarding/skiing/adventure sports/boating/camping/fishing/sports store I have been planning) Skydiver x 2 (the parachute and helmet could also go well in the adventure store) Revolution Soldier x 2 (the wigs would go well on a pair of lawyers to go alongside the S9 Judges and there may be other uses in my modern town too) Not interested in the Warrior Woman, Tomahawk Warrior, Roman Commander, Medusa or Bumblebee Girl And now that I have seen the golden guy, I have no interest in him whatsoever.- 1,076 replies

I think that (if its not already the case) the law should be changed to make it illegal for any wholesaler or distributor to tell ANY retails what price they have to sell at or otherwise attempt to set minimum retail prices or minimum advertized prices. -

Plenty of examples where manufacturers/distributors/wholesalers try and force price limits on retailers. Apple for example is well known for dictating prices for iPads/iPods/iPhones and limiting the ability of retailers to discount. The movie studios have some level of control over what price movie theaters charge for tickets. Certain premium electrical brands (like Miele for example) have agreements in place that prevent retailers from offering discounts or negotiating on price. There are probably other examples too. -
Plenty of smaller players to choose from too. The WA Government FuelWatch website lists about 20 brands in its search system. (and there are brands in WA not listed Not to mention brands that exist in the east but not in WA like 7-Eleven.

What I dont get is, given how much both K-Mart and Big W have been pushing their "low prices everywhere" mentality (just like the supermarkets) why toys seems to be one of the few categories where they DON'T go for the "undercut everyone else and make it up via low overheads and high volumes" business model. -
The "brick" bricks come in 4 colors so far, Dark Bluish Grey, Dark Tan, Light Bluish Grey and Medium Dark Flesh. Dark Bluish Grey is the rarest color (appearing only in one LOTR set to date)

Its a pitty the gas station I built wouldn't be eligible for any contest (or would it be eligible if I posted new never-before-seen pictures of the new version of it? :)

Not going to be tiling the roof because I dont have anywhere near enough tiles. Will probably put an air-conditioning unit on top of the shop part and leave it at that unless I end up doing custom stickering (in which case I would probably do a sticker that says "shop" for the top of the shop next to the Octan sign and a large sign board)
-
Hmmm, taking a look at various petrol station roofs on Google Maps, I can see that most of the driveway roofs have essentially nothing on top Maybe stick an air-conditioning unit on the roof of the shop area might work but I dont really see any big signage on the driveway roof (not with the big sign-pole I already added) I gave thought to submitting this design (when its finished) to Cuusoo but I decided not to as all it would do is take votes from other petrol/gas station MOCs.

Thanks for the tip, saw your Bridgestone tire dealer which then pointed me at the orange City Garage (which you used as inspiration for the Bridgestone dealer) which gave me the idea I needed to build a nice Octan tire rack :) Just need to figure out what to put on this vast expanse of roof and how and where to add more Octan printed parts (especially the ones I have with the Octan yin-yang logo)

Nice, I can see the inspiration from the legendary Railroad Club Car in your MOC.
