LEGO Dimensions Physical Brick Discussion
jonwil replied to Transparency for Effect's topic in LEGO Licensed
Looking at the set inventory, the only parts that aren't showing up in the Brickset database as existing in other sets are: the 1 x 2 wheels holder in light bley (seems to be a new piece but will likely show up elsewhere since I doubt they would make it just for BTTF) the 3 game base pieces the hoverboard and the red guitar. All of the parts of the minifig are the same as in the Ideas set. So unless you want to pay a lot of money for a hoverboard and a red guitar, there is probably no reason to buy this set as a parts pack. For the Dr Who set the new parts are: the 3 game base pieces the head the sonic screwdriver the torso the legs the 2 x 4 printed Tardis tiles the 1 x 2 printed K9 tile the hair piece Its possible the Dr Who Ideas project will contain some of these (the screwdriver, hair, torso, head, legs) The info we have also confirms that the rumored Ghostbusters pack isn't part of the "first wave" if it exists at all (otherwise it would be printed in the back with the others) Not going to go through the other packs we have instructions for (Simpsons, Portal) as I have no interest in those sets. Someone else will have to do those to figure out what is new/unique in the sets :)- 527 replies

We know we are getting a set based on the original Ideas proposal. The decision to include it in Dimensions (the Dimensions set contains the Doctor figure, the small Tardis and the K-9 figure) is on top of that. It may be that they wont put the Screwdriver in the Dr Who Ideas set (as a way to get people to buy the Dimensions product)

I am interested in the Dr Who pack and the BTTF pack at this stage (even though I have none of the consoles the game is being released on and have no intention of buying the actual game) The good thing about having the instructions available is that its easier to see what parts in the sets are new and use that as a guide as to whether its worth purchasing the pack for parts rather than as a gameplay piece.

My predictions: Daft Punk. No, there just isn't a set in it beyond the figs and maybe some instruments. And toys based on musical acts dont sell (certainly not for the kind of band Daft Punk are). Plus licensing for bands can be tricky. Small Yellow. No, its too niche and wouldn't sell. Discworld. No, the books aren't that popular with the sort of audience who would buy LEGO and there is no TV/movie content to tie into so the product just wouldn't make enough money. Science Adventures. Maybe. Research Institute sold well (probably enough that if they had the production capacity to do another production run, they could do it and easily sell the whole run) but this one may not be quite as attractive. Plus LEGO might not want to do a set so similar to the Research Institute so soon. Medieval Market Street. No, its too big and expensive and Castle as a theme in general isn't on their radar screen. Disney Frozen. No, LEGO already have a Frozen set on the market. Douglas DC-3. Maybe, its an iconic and historically significant airplane (and it looks cool) but its not the kind of airplane kids would think of when they think of an airplane. Not sure it would sell that well to airplane enthusiasts either (they tend to be more interested in model kits with high levels of detail). Licensing (through Boeing who own Douglas) wouldn't be all that hard though I suspect. T-Rex. No, they have the Jurassic World stuff (which includes a T-Rex) and even if the Jurassic World license doesn't preclude it, I cant see them doing this. International Space Station. No, the ISS just doesn't have the visibility to make it work in the way the Mars Rover did (at the time the Mars Rover set was green-lit and hit shelves it was still very much news, the ISS only seems to make the news when one of the ships headed to it either can't launch for some reason or launches and has a failure of some sort) Golden Girls. No, the sort of people who like the Golden Girls are not the sort of people who generally like LEGO. Zelda. No for the same reasons the other Zelda projects have been rejected. RMS Titanic. No, its not really a good fit with the LEGO ethos to product a set based on a boat that sank and killed so many people. Plus any set that looked anything like realistic would be far too big for an Ideas project. Corvette. Maybe, Corvette is a cool car for sure but how many Europeans know what a Corvette is or would be interested in one (as opposed to, say, a Ferrari or Porsche that is popular on both sides of the pond). Plus they would need to negotiate with General Motors for a license and I dont know how hard GM is to work with. And with Speed Champions, there is the question of whether another sports car is something LEGO would want on the shelves right now. Of this batch, the best chance might be for the DC-3,and Corvette and maybe the Science Adventures (only because of how popular the Research Institute was)

Heard a rumor from a reliable source that there will only be one drop of the Jurassic World sets (so what the stores get in is what they will have and there wont be any more shipments after that) So if you hang around waiting for a big sale at MYER or something, you might miss out altogether. -

Reports from another forum that the Jurassic World sets have started showing up around the place although there was no sign of any Jurassic World sets at any of the retailers in Chermside as of earlier today. MYER did have a couple VWs and a Simpsons House though. Mr Toys had the Mini. Not much else worth mentioning. -

We have a nurse and a surgeon, how about a doctor? There is a nice doctor in the most recent City Medical Centre set and one in one of the LEGO Movie sets but a CMF doctor would make it much cheaper to get one. -
Of the items currently in review, the ones I would consider buying are: Science Adventures (still annoyed that I was unable to get an RI) Daft Punk (if it had any nice parts) Minas Tirith (Love LOTR and a Minas Tirith would probably have some nice parts) Labyrinth Marble Maze (it looks like it would be fun to play with as well as to build) DC-3 (I love airplanes and wish that I had been able to acquire the 787 Dreamliner) Natural History Museum (nice design and probably some nice parts) Piano (pianos are cool :) Corvette (its a GM product and the LEGO design looks cool)

What happened to the other Golden Girls set that got to 10k?

Some ideas I have had kicking around in my head for a while (not sure if they have been suggested or not): Airline Pilot Gender: Male Torso print: Similar to the suit torso from the airport sets with the tie and pilot wings badge only more detailed (keep it black though) Headgear: Same hat as the Series 10 Sea Captain in 100% black. Keep the gold stripe that the Sea Captain has and then print a set of pilot wings (matching the torso) in the middle of the hat. Facial expression: Really happy looking Legs: Black legs Accessory: New mold suitcase that looks more like the rolling suitcases with handles that you see pilots and crew using (e.g. on TV or movies) Electrician Gender: Male Torso print: Shirt similar in design to the Series 13 Carpenter but in yellow with a lightning bolt type logo. Headgear: Yellow hard hat Facial Expression: Happy with beard Legs: Sand Blue legs Accessory: Pliers/wire cutters Janitor Gender: Male Torso print: Blue denim-look collared shirt with white undershirt/singlet Headgear: either hair or the Painter/Plumber hat (not sure which would look better) Facial Expression: Tired out Legs: Blue to match the torso Accessory: Series 10 Decorator bucket in yellow with warning triangle plus new mop piece (similar to the Harry Potter broomstick only with a floppy mop on the end) Maid Gender: Female Torso print: Black with white maid apron printing Headgear: Female hair Facial Expression: happy/friendly Legs: Black with lower half of maid apron printing Accessory: feather duster, spray bottle Golf Pro Torso print: Argyle sweater with shirt and bow tie Headgear: Golf cap with plaid Facial Expression: happy Legs: Plaid printed legs Accessory: Golf putter Office Worker Torso print: Same as Homer from The Simpsons House (with the shirt, tie and ID badge) only not so cartoonish. Headgear: Hair Facial Expression: Not sure Legs: black legs Accessory: Briefcase and printed tile with some sort of chart on it Baker Torso print: White with chef/baker uniform Headgear: New chef/baker hat Facial Expression: Happy Legs: White Accessory: Loaf of bread (not the french stick, something new) -
Anyone in Brisbane should come check out the BrisBricks train display at the AMRA train show. (its on at the showgrounds in the big show bag pavilion) I will be there with a significant contribution (my largest single MOC ever) and am looking forward to it :) Among other things is what is (as far as I can tell) the first ever TransLink buses modeled in LEGO.

I dont know what episode it was but I saw an episode of Dr Who last night that featured the Torchwood HQ and some sort of sphere (and then at the end, some Cybermen)

If anyone is looking for the Mini, the big Toyworld on the Pacific Motorway opposite the Toyota Dealer and near that big construction site where the Audi dealer is going has it in stock. The ones I saw at Toys R Us Garden City last week seem to be gone. Plenty of Simpsons Series 2 out there at various retailers across Garden City and Brisbane CBD as well although everyone has them at RRP so I will wait for a sale :) No sign of any other interesting stock (picked up my Rainforest Animals from the Target at Garden City) -
Ended up ripping the coffee cup logo (the bit I wanted) from The LEGO Movie: The Video Game. So its all good now and I can print the sticker for my Kebab and Coffee Shop (and yes it does have both Larry and Bob working there :)

Very pleased to see that the 2015 Mia's Roadster set is an electric car. Great to see LEGO exposing kids to green technologies.

What is the best place to buy the Creator set with the parrot here in Brisbane/Gold Coast? Any chance of getting one below RRP anytime soon? -
Hmmm, the show I am wanting the stickers for is happening too soon to wait for the 60097 or for the stickers to get all the way here from Europe :(

I picked up some Avery inkjet compatible labels today, they should work just fine. As for actually matching the colors, I will start with the RGB values given on http://peeron.com/inv/colors and fiddle with things from there (that is what worked for me in the past)

Toys R Us Garden City has the Sea Cow, Ecto, Simpsons House and (for those interested in the B2G1 50% sale) several bike shop & Cafes. Oh and a few copies of the Mini if anyone wants that (and since it says Creator on the box, it does count for the B2G1 sale) Big w Garden City has some of the big ultra agents truck in the drop zone area and a Simpsons House in the regular LEGO area. Nothing of note at Myer, Target, K-Mart or David Jones. Only things of note spotted in the Bris CBD are a Volvo digger at MYER and a couple Fairground Mixers at DJs (no ides if MYER had any stock ut the back like some stores are now doing) -
Does anyone know if there is somewhere I can download some LEGO Movie Coffee Shop stickers to print for a MOC? Lots of people seem to have made these but I cant find anyone who has made them available for download/printing.

Can anyone suggest a good paper to print custom stickers on using a Canon Inkjet? I used to buy a product that was basically an inkjet photo paper but was sticky when you peeled off the back but now I cant find that product anymore. Are the Avery mailing labels (white, not clear) any good for sticker printing? Also, can anyone suggest ways I can match LEGO colors, specifically blue, light bluish grey and black? And, can anyone help me come up with a template to match the correct size for the flat face of a 1 x 6 x 5 brick, the lower part of a train door (i.e. where the yellow stripe and number are in set 60052), the smooth part of a 6 x 16 tile with studs on edges (i.e. everything below where the black parts are on the big tiles in set 60052), the flat surface of a stack of 3 1 x 10 bricks and the top surface of a 4 x 6 x 2/3 truck roof piece/wedge piece?

Of the new City sets, I am only interested in the City Square and the space starter set. As for the price of the City Square, with any luck, it will show up here in Australia at a retailer like MYER that does regular sales and I can pick one up at a reasonable price...

MYER Brisbane CBD has a Simpsons House and some VWs. No Minis or modulars or slaves. Nothing of note spotted at any of the other CBD retailers although I did notice that David Jones has cut its toy section down dramatically for some reason (I still dont get why DJs even bothers with toys, its not like they would be moving a lot of product compared to, say, MYER and its frequent sales) -

A few clearence tags spotted at K-Mart Loganholme. Star Wars Phantom, General Grevious Bike. & Ghost. Technic conainer truck and bulldozer. Lego Movie SSS!, mech abnd dropship. Chima tribe packs and mammoth walker. Ultra Agents truck. Bike Shop & Cafe. A couple of "classic" brick boxes. MYER has the new green, grey and sand baseplates if anyone wants some during the B1G1 sale. -
Dr Who doesn't have a new hair mold. If anything, it has a hair mold that was created for some other set and is being used by Dr Who. LEGO is very clear on this, they will NOT make new molds for Ideas sets and I see no reason they would have changed their rules for the Dr Who set.
