Ambassador Project - Definition of Design Constraints
BFN replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Pirates
The Flagship still had the same characters as the 2009 theme, though, and was basically released in the same time frame. Anyway, insignificant allusion discussion aside, a $200 set is considered a possibility? I wasn't really thinking about market research or whatnot when I expressed my doubts... it was mainly the fact that the stated aim of the project was to be like past City and Castle themes, which generally don't have such big sets (or, for Castle, not in the first wave). -

True, but the original 2009 line also had that large Imperial Ship that we probably couldn't get away with, so if kids saved enough, they could still have two ships battle. :P We wouldn't really be able to do something at the $200 scale. Ah, okay. Sounds good. -
Ambassador Project - Definition of Design Constraints

The use of the 1991 sets as a model seems like a good idea. Not so much the 2009 pirates theme, as it had too many bases and only one actual ship. -
Better, but I don't think anyone here could live with a new pirate theme not involving a pirate ship. XP Other than that, it does sound like an original idea that I could perhaps get behind supporting.

...isn't this basically LEGO Castle, not LEGO Pirates? :P

Design a NEW LEGO Pirates Sub-Theme - Themes Suggestions
BFN replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Pirates
I already supported/repitched tedbeard's suggestion here, so I hope it still counts. In addition, I am somewhat supportive of "Honokolo Island", though not to quite the same extent as the similar "Legends of the Lost City". -
How many ideas may/should we support?

Design a NEW LEGO Pirates Sub-Theme - Themes Suggestions
BFN replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Pirates
Basically supporting/re-pitching this one, except highlighting the "competitors" aspect of the Buccaneer captains and distinguishing differences between the two pirate captains (one is defected from the military and his troops resemble disheveled/rogue imperials, and the other one is basically just an ordinary pirate). -
Yeah, a Jungle set or Treasure Cove would be nice. The island in the 2009 theme was fun, but also much too small.

Are we allowed to give feedback on the current suggestions thread, or must this wait for another thread or another time?

Design a NEW LEGO Pirates Sub-Theme - Themes Suggestions
BFN replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Pirates
Subtheme Name: "Pirate Legends" Premise: The pirates and the imperials compete with one another on various fronts for both treasure and magical "artifacts". These artifacts could be central to the story, somewhat like in Pharaoh's Quest, or they can be the subjects of specific sets. These battles are faced on multiple fronts. Sometimes (in order to produce a "HQ" set), this would be at one faction's home turf, where the treasure is already possessed by one faction and the other would try to steal it. Other times, the hunt for treasure would take place in very isolated regions, with the two factions having to contend with traps or natural obstacles as well as each other. Islanders may or may not be involved in some of these scenarios. A supernatural element would also be present, but not to a large extent. One set may, for example, feature mermen/mermaids or a Kraken, but these supernatural aspects need not be as prominent as the conflict between the two factions themselves. Design: The subtheme's smallest sets would generally feature the treasure and/or obstacles as primary components, though the opposing factions may also use transportable cannons or traps against each other. Larger sets would feature small "bases" and ships for each faction. The treasure and the treasure's surroundings would still be featured, but less prominently. The largest sets would hopefully include one large pirate ship and maybe a large base set on a rocky, tropical island. Unlike the previous non-licensed pirate theme, all of the ships and bases will demonstrate having gone through a little bit of wear and tear, especially for the pirates, to emphasize their sort of rag-tag character. Sails may be torn, for example, and bases would be overgrown with vegetation. Overall, the sets would look a little more natural and realistic than in the last theme. Finally, that brings us to the various factions. The pirates are stylized pretty similar to past themes, except perhaps with more variation among their attire than in the last one. They are a group of eager, adventurous treasure-hunters and explorers. They come into contact with the imperials, who desire the treasures for themselves and as such quickly come into conflict with the pirates. The imperials are also quite similar to how they appear in past themes, except for the above-mentioned addition of detail and some slight run-down of their assets. Potentially, there would also be a third, minor group (not prominent enough to be counted as a "faction"), that is included in one of the sets for diversity. Perhaps an even more run-down group of pirates, or a supernatural element, or islanders. (Edit: David's "Smugglers" idea also sounds pretty cool; perhaps it could be applied as this last group.) Anyway, that's my suggestion. Please tell me if there's anything I should reformat/change, as I did go a bit astray from the example given. Totally agree. I hope LEGO gives him some better facial features soon. Maybe now that they've basically run out of interesting new suits, the face printing will become the selling feature for Batman minifigures...- 2,626 replies

Wikia's Brickipedia, especially it's forums, have basically gone to hell after most of the editors left to Brickimedia. One of the admins there still keeps the mainspace fairly decent, but I wouldn't trust anything on the forums.

Well, Marvel surprised me this year. I didn't think I'd touch the subtheme this year, yet I may get the Starblaster and X-Jet after all. So many nice new pieces...

I think it's actually a new scabbard mould, as in one of the images, it does appear to be attached to the shell. -

I know. I was responding to someone who said the heads looked the same as in previous sets. -

I didn't pay much attention to the Van set, but if you look closely at the truck set, all the Turtle heads seem to have those small holes for goggles/visors/whatever. -

Joe Meno has some decent coverage. There are also a few videos on YouTube that show the interior and play features, though I can't remember which channel had the best one off-hand.- 2,626 replies

I haven't read all, like, 60 pages of replies here on Eurobricks, but in most discussions I've seen in general, those complaining about the heads do seem to give reasons; mainly, that the size is too large.

That scene is probably the only justification one can use to get multiples. :P

REVIEW: 71005 LEGO Minifigures - The LEGO Simpsons Series
BFN replied to WhiteFang's topic in LEGO Licensed
Great review, and I'm very glad that you took pics of how the torsos and legs look when given non-Simpsons heads. It served to aid my decisions on purchasing a few of them. :P Shame it couldn't have been done for Apu as well, though.- 118 replies

Interesting, I guess. I kind of wish the accessories were better, though. As much as I enjoy The Simpsons, I don't feel the need to recreate super-specific gags from the show in LEGO form. I would have preferred more unique yet still generic accessories, like the doughnut and the TV remote. Still, even in that regard, the series delivered better than I expected. So, LEGO... when comes the DC Superheroes series? Same here. One doughnut is still great to have, but I wish there was a better way to get, like, half a dozen if I wanted to.
