  1. I shudder to think of what you have spent On the flip side, it looks damned good sir! Very impressive.
  2. lol Thanks That answers that question, guess I have to use bricklink and the pain in the rear it looks to entail........ Its the only thing I need to order. Have to figure out some other stuff to order.
  3. It looks good. Only downfall is lack of couplers, so its kind of useless, figure that out and maybe lengthen it slightly and you would have a nice engine
  4. Well its built and running need some more of the 1*3 slopes for the roof. Have one issue though, haven't used it for a week or two and now the rubber bands I pressed into service for traction are junk and its slipping badly. None of my other rubber bands will work and any o-rings I have are too thick and I have multiple o-ring sets. Anyone have a part number outside of the Lego red traction bands they found works for the large steam drivers? Will try and update this with pics as well.
  5. Look, the thing is made to be opened and played with so do it Or we can do something really lame and start AFA grading Lego so it can be locked away forever without being played with and two identical boxes can have different grades with no explanation. Besides, everything in the picture is worthless.................. To be worth money you actually have to sell if and have a buyer as well.
  6. Ouch!!!! I know the Emerald Night and enginehouse cost you a good penny! Now build them!
  7. Whatever makes you happy when you get time to screw around with it is the best method. If you were going to keep everything 100% Lego I hope you are an independently wealthy individual and I would ask if you would like to adopt me as a son Failing that, make yourself a couple 2 or 3 foot long dioramas and mess around with some techniques to see what you prefer.
  8. Everyone together now "Creator Train, Creator Train!!!" I think I can, I think I can
  9. ..................... Here we go again. Lego is completely capable of making a bum product(battery boxes are proof), just like anyone else. 100% fix every time for the battery box is to simply take the top of and get a hobby knife, a 3/8 drill bit and a 5/16 drill bit. Ream the holes out slightly with the 3/8 drill bit, finish them up with the 5/16 drill bit then clean up any excess with the hobby/utility knife. Done! No "black lists", no "garbage Lego product", no worrying about what batteries to use or who manufactured your favorite batteries this week. I have 6 battery boxes now and I think one worked as is, all the others I simply reamed slightly with drill bits by hand and cleaned them up and good to go forever more, no more messing around or worrying which batteries to buy. I have had issues with Eneloop, Duracell, Eveready and Energizer, so do yourself the favor and ream the openings out and be done with it. Why there is so much resistance to a one time cure all fix and people trying stupid stuff like tin foil is beyond me
  10. That's a sexy locomotive. Nice work
  11. First, take a 7/32 drill bit and ream the holes by hand, clean it up with a razor knife/hobby knife and 3/16 drill bit. I repeat this over and over ever time I see it in a thread, just be done with it. Do it once, clean it up and you are good to go with any type of battery you will ever put in it..................................... This is a lot simpler and a lot more fool proof then aluminum foil................
  12. So where are all the running problems that I see everywhere about the Emerald Night? Only thing I did different was eliminate the rear T towards the engine and used a technics 1*4 with holes instead and used an extra flat 1*2 where the pistons would be on the front so they could not hit the bottom plate. She rolled good on all track for a week or so by hand and now powered today it runs a lot smoother than I was expecting based on comments here. Will update with pics when I'm off work next.
  13. No I demand they make these sets for the adults who purchase them
  14. Thats insane. I approve
  15. Nice man! That build is awesome. Chicago huh? I'm Nw In here, maybe I can see it on person one day.
  16. Great looking stock car, best version I've seen in Lego yet. Have any other pictures of the switcher you can share? Looks to be a beautiful build.
  17. Worst part alert lol Rebuilding the rear of the gearing where the motor goes. We only had one of the technic T pieces, so had to make do with bricks and pulled it off. Also seems about 10 times sturdier than what Lego had intended in the first place as well, so we are taking a break since we have to vacate his room when the little one takes a nap next door. Kind of constrained space wise since we do this all in his room since mommy doesn't quite appreciate Lego the same way dad does lol Hard with the track layout, dumping buckets for parts, laptop for instructions, etc etc
  18. Just build your own. I am doing it with my older boy right now, some minor mods to accommodate a couple pieces we didn't have but you could always bricklink those if u had to. I want one, I won't lie, but pushing $300 or more can get us lots of other stuff to build and you can make one yourself cheaper. As for being expensive, limited market, limited availability and one of the few good steam engines Lego has made. I debate building the 2 extra HE's I ended up with that I have sitting in my closet, when anything is worth enough I debate selling it.(but I want a complete intact train for myself that the kids won't destroy lol) Edit: I actually have the doors for the EN passenger car, came in a bulk lot I bought, desperately searched for the rest with none to be found...did have about 3/4+ of another HE in there though and some random track
  19. So far running gear area is mostly grey(more light than dark) and boiler area and trim has some dark green and black for the majority, trying to keep it coordinated. Have had to remake some of the running gear and a few parts for things we did not have, but should be fully functional and good looking when done. Got the lower layer of slopes for the boiler on last night and should be working on the second level this afternoon. I'll get some pics when we have a much less cramped working area lol
  20. The kid has been absolutely dying to have a steam engine for his Lego trains. So over the last week between work, snow and everything else we have slowly been working on it when we get a chance. Thankfully we are building it out of parts on hand and I have made everything work thus far Little bit of ingenuity goes a long way here or there. I refuse to shell out $300 or so for it. He was just too little when it was out and it was before our Lego rebirth for it and the Maersk engine. Since his Dad is awesome we have quite a parts stockpile and have it built to the point that the next steps are the boiler jacketing, so we are getting there slowly but surely. He has been counting out the bricks needed and finding a decent amount of the pieces for me, so it will eventually move under its own power. Probably work on it more tonight. I will update with some pics once we get her completed.
  21. Hmmmm, interesting. Have a similar type of environment depending on where the boy and I are playing at the house. Personally, I have not experienced any interference issues. Keep us posted if u find an actual cause. Might just be all the above and the room design, lots of reflections, solid walls, etc
  22. Wow! Definitely got the cab forward part down and looking good. Now u will need some very large tunnels to run her thru
  23. It's nice to see someone else who lets the kids build/smash/crash/repair/repeat. My 4 yr old started on LEGO trains at a little over 3 yrs old and we been "training" it ever since. At the end of the day its the fun we have and I can live with him taking anything apart since the dude can build something with the motor hooked up, headlites in, right channels selected on the receiver and running on the tracks to show me when I get home. Sometimes its ugly, sometimes its impressive, but he is using his head and his imagination which is the most important part. I would love a Maersk train, but unless I find a smoking deal it will have to wait.....If I had known sooner and he was a little older I would have been able to grab it at retail. I snagged a few of the Lone Ranger engines cheap(when they were everywhere) to make ourselves a Emerald Night when we get some time to put it together. I'd ask you how many times you have had to rebuild stuff, but I think I know the answer already
  24. Trams are toys....................compared to the real stuff. So is this confirmed that it is the "new" train set or do we yet still have hope?
  25. Someone please say it isn't so, that's not a train its a toy............................ I'm not sure my boy will even want to play with it. Let there be a Creator train please.
