The Lego Movie 2 - The Second Part 2019 Set Discussion
Lasse D replied to Fenghuang0296's topic in Special LEGO Themes
My plan was to buy a ton of the small Benny's friends set. It will do wonders for my Futuron models. But it turns out that I also love the other tiny set, so I have made a review of it: -

And from our side we have Fürth and Nürnberg under construction. -
I didn't even know these minifigs existed! I can bring some bags of collectible minifigs and other minifig polybags that I can find, then you can pick and choose.
-
I am interested in up to 10 pairs of these in black: And will trade for collectible minifigs. One pair of new black wedges = one minifig. EDIT: I have now been offered more than enough wedges. Thanks Holodoc and other benefactors. I am also interested in Tire 37 x 22 ZR https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=55978#T=C&C=11 Here 4 tires = 1 minifig. So if you feel these are a waste of storage space, I will gladly put them to good use :)

Lasse D replied to Holodoc's topic in LEGO Events and User Groups
Yep. We should have time to build this weekend. Looking forward to see you all again. Btw. Which kind of beer would you prefer we bring? If no one speaks up, then I will just get some Raddler! :D -

Eurobricks event #15 GÜNZBURG (!) sign up thread

Elena and I would like to join. However. As she has German lessons Thursday, we will first be able to arrive Thursday evening. And we are driving my big car from Nürnburg, so if anyone are flying to that airport, then we should figure out the logistics. Worst case, I can add the roof carrier in order to accommodate Frabrik hauls. + 500 liters -

I totally missed the change. I now live 2h away from the event. Are you all already booked in? -
I have just released first version of Pattern Folder. It is a simple Javascript based tool to add curvature to LDraw files. See how to use it in the video below. How to get started (as shown in the video) 1) Go to https://brickhub.org/i/apps/pf.htm and add your sticker. 2) Use a file, URL or simply paste the content of your LDraw file. Please note that only line type 0, 2, 3 and 4 are supported. Sub-files (type 1) and conditional lines (type 5) or any other digital file format are not yet supported. 3) Click on the surface of your choice (or type in your own. Click the various surfaces or see the video to learn how). 4) Download your folded LDraw file. Bonus See building instructions for the Corvette here: https://brickhub.org/i/224 Building instructions for the Porsche 911 RSR is found here: https://brickhub.org/i/193 (not all stickers made yet) Pattern Folder is 100% free to use, copy, improve, and eat (dietary restrictions may apply). It is also free from advertising and complies to GDPR because it doesn't track anything, nor take ownership of anything you use it for. I have added an ad to the video in order to pay for the website hosting. GitHub project: https://github.com/LasseD/PatternFolder Feel free to make pull requests, raise issues, fork, clone, etc. Please feel free to post ideas, suggestions, missing patterns, bugs, ... or if you think this kind of tool is a stupid or great idea.

Part 3 is up! See the first post for the video with this magnificent beast The Lockheed P-38 Lightning from 2941 in scale 1:21 It has landing gear that is folded out mechanically: And is pretty packed with exterior details As usual we have poseability with moving rudders, elevator, etc., and even a 'secret compartment' With a wingspan of over 70cm, this is an absolute unit!

To be honest, I find the Creator 3:1 sets from the past couple of years to be among the best there have been in the theme. Even the smallest sets, such as this one from 2018, seems to check most marks: Good parts for the price, innovative models and the main model even looks good on a shelf! Release year: 2018 Theme: Creator 3:1 Price: 4 USD or 4 Euro range. Number of parts: 68 Build time: Roughly 5 minutes per model. This review is a stark contrast to the one of 'Helicopter Adventure' from yesterday. LEGO makes great sets in this theme, and I want to point out both the good and the bad. Here are a couple of closeups of the Turkey. Interactive building instructions here: https://brickhub.org/i/116 And the Koala With building instructions here: https://brickhub.org/i/115 'Greetings Feline' has building instruction s right here: https://brickhub.org/i/118 In fact. There are even more alternates - you can find them by searching for the set number: https://brickhub.org/i/search.php?q=30542

I'm glad you found it useful :) I must admit that I was very, very disappointed with this set. This comes after having build many of the 3:1 sets from 2018, many of which were extraordinary. Perhaps I should review those instead. The cute pug and pirate roller coaster make me happy just thinking about them.

I am glad you ask coinoperator. For 10 Euro and a professional product and design team I expect creativity and collaboration that where the parts of your main model allows you to create a finished product, such as: 31029: Also a helicopter, but with two great B-models (transport plane and container ship). Same MSRP. Much higher level of creativity. 31057: Again, also a helicopter with two great B-models. Again the B-models are a plane and a ship (or catamaran), but they both look great and are interestingly built. 4915: Same story: Main model is a helicopter, the B-models a planes. While I think the last model is rubbish, the first B-model is top class. In other words. For 10 Euro LEGO has time and time again shown that they are capable of making great Creator 3:1 sets. The 31092 is not one of them :) Last time we saw a $10 Creator 3:1 airplane set with worse B-models, it was in 2016 with 31042. Meanwhile, Creator creature sets have great B-models even in the $5 and below range, such as 30542 from last year (although the Koala B-model is borderline) and 4915.

Adding prints to Studio 2.0

I have updated svg2ldraw to be better at working with degenerate paths which appear when rounding to 4 decimals. It seems like 'sally2' is using CSS class to get the fill-properties. This I did honestly not expect, so right now all the output will appear in black. Making sure that there are no T-sections is not as easy as it sounds. I will have to make a post-processor to remove these. It is on my TODO-list. -
The new LEGO 31092 Helicopter Adventure is a Creator 3:1 set that brings affordability to the small windscreen in transparent, which was previously only found in two Star Wars sets. Unfortunately it does not seem to bring much else to the table. See my full review below. Released in first half of 2019 it carries a price of roughly EUR 10 and contains 114 parts. There are 3 booklets - one for each model. The last two only need 20 pages each for the tiny B-models. The second B-model can be built in 3 minutes and is hardly worth mentioning. The third is a "power boat": I can kinda see what the idea was with the model, but it is very basic in every way. I do not recommend this set for people who are seeking a fun set for their children. It might be alright for parts, but it does not excel at neither functionality, realism, fun-to-build, nor playability.

I have added part 2 of the video review to the top post. Among others it contains this Mirage 1110: It is really great looking model. I want to build a display stand for it and put it on a shelf... now I just have to get a shelf. From underneath you can see my main complaint: The old white parts are very yellowed: The landing gear folded in: Construction of the humongous P-38 Lightning is proceeding at the speed I can muster. Hopefully I will get my hands on the real book, so I can include it in part 3 of the video review.

I have updated the first post with a video review of the miniplanes. Here are the new models not previously shown. Sopwith Camel Year: 1917 Scale: 1:105 As shown in the video, this build is very similar to the Red Baron. Nifty features include how he carpet runners double as both parts that hold the wings together and act as the logos on the wings The landing gear is similar as on the Red Baron, although I would prefer a rear 'landing gear stick' to be made using a part that only has a single 'finger' DH.88 Comet Year: 1934 Scale: 1:110 It is a solid little model with some features, such as the engines mimiking those of the two older planes My favourite part is how the tiles jump half a plate on the nose While the part I would change is the 1x3 plate in white crossing the wings It is relatively smooth underneath and the solution for mounting the parts for the wings works quite well P-51D Mustang Year: 1942 Scale: 1:125 This is probably the model I like the most among the miniplanes. And not just because it comes in two liveries The models are both simple, durable and on point MiG-29 Year: 1982 Scale: 1:120 This model has the best underbody detailing of the bunch An asymmetric paint job A screwdriver as nose cone and a nifty solution for the tail wing construction My only complaint is how there is no space between the exhaust nozzles I have not built the F-14 Tomcat and B2 bomber. The F-14 looks like a great little model and quite similar to the MiG. The B2 is much bigger than the other miniplanes, so it stands out a bit in comparison. Perhaps I should include it in part 2? Anyway. Stay tuned to the video review part 2 where I also have a new model to show.

It seems like many of the dropbox-hosted models have been deleted. Are there any plans for updating the index? If not, then it will be very difficult to locate functional models. Many of the models in here are also without licenses (all rights reserved implied), so they can't simply be relocated from dropbox without the owner's consent - even if they were accessible!

The next update came soon! I have rebuilt the top of the TS050 seen in the post a few days ago. The 'silver' position above the windscreen now has more flowing lines. It took half an hour just to get the slopes right! The portion with the red wedge has also been redesigned so it follows the curved lines of the original better, while the black slope on the shark tail has been moved back to its rightful position. Other improvements include more sturdiness and small corrections here and there. The next step will be to rebuild the car from the ground-up in order to improve sturdiness even more. As an example, I will have to mount the front axle differently to avoid it from coming undone due to lack of support underneath the sloped nose. It would also be nice to have a 1x3 jumper underneath the antennae, but that will have to be from a BrickLink order.

Adding prints to Studio 2.0

I have updated the algorithm, so it now no longer layers the triangles. It is not able to handle stroke and text, so poor Sally still doesn't look right. The decomposition has been changed from 'trapezoid' to 'general convex hull' which causes much fewer artifacts and a smaller file size. The old algorithm handled unexpected shapes by flipping the table and storming out the door. This new one simply writes an orange warning and gives a suggestion for improving the situation. There is one extra feature I would like to add before making a separate topic for it. -
It only took a little over a year, but now the complete model is again built! I am trying out a new way of building the monocoque. The goal is to recreate the smooth rounded shape of the real thing. While I believe the sides are alright, the front center right above the curved black part should be redesigned. Moving to the back you can see a new tail fin, exhaust tips, fuel intake and top curvature. I think I should move the black triangle a stud or two back, but unfortunately that causes the straight lower black line to be broken up. Similarly we have the red part right next to it. While it now looks more correct from the side, the smooth curve of the roof line is messed up. I will also have to redesign this if possible. Next update in March 2020! ... or sooner.
