WW Category 3: Is this the end for Tuco?
Praiter Yed replied to Praiter Yed's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Thanks Ratshot. Glad you recognised it - I kind of wondered how popular these movies are these days and if many people would know it. I look forward to seeing your entry Dark_Alamez and comparing bricks. Maybe we could be arrogant and say 'great minds think alike' . -
The buildings are fantastic and I really like the wind powered water pump plus I absolutely love the stagecoach. The guy being sick in the trough with the horse drinking it is just but in a good way .
-
That's a really nice town TazManiac . The buildings are really good and lots of great little interior details too. My favourite parts are the piano and the winking guy in the bath .
-
Thanks for the review . I'm beginning to accept that maybe this is a very good play-set for kids. Just not such a great set for AFOLSW. I still can't help comparing it to Battle of Endor though - I'm trying not to, I just can't help it. It has less parts and less figures than 8038 but is more expensive on S@H uk - 92 GBP compared to 85 GBP (8038 was released @ £75 I think?). Maybe it's heavier, maybe it's the Tauntaun - I don't know, but the only way I'll be getting this is if there's a really good offer! Shame, because the more I see the minifigs, the more I want to own them .

Picked up 8099 Midi Star Destroyer I already bought a second hand one off eBay but couldn't resist the temptation of Tesco's £15 price tag

I agree, the situation is funny even without the punch-line.

WW Category 3: Is this the end for Tuco?
Praiter Yed replied to Praiter Yed's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Thanks Stardusty. The decal is applied using a special ink-jet printable waterslide decal paper. There's lots of info on it and tutorials in the Minifig Customisation Workshop forum. Here is a link to the index of tutorials (you need to scroll down to part 2 of the index) and here's a direct link to the decal application tutorial. I admit I didn't follow these guides exactly and I'll happily PM you with details of what I used etc. (I can't do that right now though because I'm at work and shouldn't even be looking at EB at the moment . -
WW Category 3: Is this the end for Tuco?

Thanks Khorne , The good, the bad and the ugly is one of my favourite westerns too (my favourite is 'For a few dollars more'). Yes, I designed the decals in Illustrator - I tried to emulate Lego's style as best I could, in particular the new, more detailed style they're doing for Star Wars figs. I'm really pleased with how they came out, I'm still pretty new at using water-slide decals and have had some poor results but everything seemed to go in my favour this time . -
As part of the History Forum's Spaghetti Western competition I made two custom figs for my category 3 vignette, Tuco (the Ugly) and Blondie (the Good) from The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. I ended up ditching Clint Eastwood's character for the final vignette so I've decided to post that here. I also printed his famous poncho but it didn't turn out as good as I hoped, maybe I'll update that in the future... The other custom figure of Tuco can be seen here.

The waistcoat and chaps are really good (especially the chaps!). And I really like the balancing rock - I can't decide whether the horse should still be included.
-
I enjoy a good Western and the 'Spaghetti' ones are my favourites, so for the competition I have chosen to present my interpretation of the the final scene of The Good, The Bad and The Ugly... Here's a closer look at Tuco (The Ugly)... The final resting place of an ancient bounty hunter, Bubba Fett... I also did a custom figure of Clint Eastwood's character but decided not to use him in the end. He can be found in my flickr. EDIT: Updated 1st pic

WW Category 3: In Memory of Philemon I. Rowley

What a tragic story! I like your cart, I don't know so much about American history so I'm not sure if they used cows to pull their wagon trains? - I guess they might - I'm quite amused by it either way. I absolutely love your brick built vulture. -
As others have mentioned the 'run down' effect you have achieved is very impressive. This is very difficult to do in Lego without making it look $h!t, but you have succeeded.

WW Category 2 Entry: The Deadbrick Duel
Praiter Yed replied to shmails's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I think this is fantastic. It's got fantastic little details all over but I especially like the smoke coming out of the gun barrels - is that cotton wool? -
IMO it is a case by case thing. I used to have this issue with some pieces where I felt they were so specialised that they were no longer like Lego, but I've almost got over that now. So I don't have anything against SPUDs or BURPs if they can be used effectively. Sometimes I look at these pieces and think it would be nice to use them as a starting point for an MOC. To come up with a creative way of using them just for the challenge/fun of it. I've not found time for that yet though. If I were to pilot a starship I'd want it to be built from something other than Lego.

A beautiful tree design Julandrius and a very nice vignette. You've captured the feeling of movement with the speeder bike very well and I don't think the ground is boring at all - I like it.
-
That's a nice scene anakev and amusing too - would be nice to see a complete version of your Tie Fighter because that looks really good too BTW if he crashed in Tanis he might bump into R2-D2 & C-3PO.

I really like the way you made the roof and the damaged wall is a great little detail. All in all a beautiful creation and your custom Zorro is ace (well done on that hat!).

An image of Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle can be found here. Sorry if this has already been posted.

I like how compact you made this . The tooth pieces that Brickdoctor used would work well at the back - shame they're not available in brown . At first look I thought you'd built it in two halfs and the trooper was holding it together but I now see that his legs are pulled apart slightly - is he sitting on a droid arm? I would be interested to see a picture without the minifig.

Small LDD contest - [FINAL RESULTS]

I'm going to stop being so critical of TLG - they did well to make that chicken thing out of these parts. Here is my, (cringe), Jabberwocky... lxf file. More here when public - as if anyone would like to see more -
Doctor Who, Torchwood, Sarah Jane Adventures...

Just been watching the trailer for the 2nd half of the current Dr. Who season. Looks good . -
I was lucky enough to get the UCS Falcon new & sealed off ebay for £290 about one or two weeks before it was discontinued . How I ended up with it is a bit of story in itself but probably not that interesting and certainly off topic. I've still not had time to open/start building it but my hope is that I will build it with my daughter, display for a while, then dismantle and put back in the box. When my son is old enough I'd like to do the same with him (he'd better be a Star Wars fan!). I still watch these on eBay occasionally and last week I saw one go for £994. Although I would never want to sell it, it's nice to know that 10179 is increasing in value and I find it comforting to think that if I find myself in the shit I've got something I could sell. If TLG were to do a re-issue or release a different version and therefore lower the value of the one I have, it wouldn't bother me in the slightest. I believe the value would eventually go up again once the new version is discontinued. But as I said; I doubt I'd ever sell it, but, I'm pretty sure my missus thinks otherwise .
