  1. A really lovely micro-build with lots of great parts usage throughout, but the hangar door is my favourite
  2. I got 7110 Luke's Landspeeder and 7128 Speeder Bikes for Christmas, both as 'jokes' from two different people. I didn't even know Lego Star Wars existed. I built them, put them back in the box and left them in a cupboard. About 8 years later my daughter found them and that's when my dark-age ended .
  3. Is this OK? It's made to go on a tan head - I can change to sand green like your ref or do a transparent version if you prefer?
  4. I really like how you've played with gravity and created a Matrix/Inception style chase scene - you've captured the movement and action very well. I like the brick-built legs of your alien and the fins coming from the head are cool. However, I find the side view looks visually off balance. In comparison to the powerful look of the legs, I think the torso looks too thin. Imho a differently positioned picture would be better - the second pic in your brickshelf 'img_0194.jpg' shows a better side position which also demonstrates the movement of the brick-built legs. A minor gripe really though.
  5. I really love this entry, the helmet is brilliant and the colour scheme is quite beautiful. I'm eagerly awaiting your story and vignette.
  6. For a long time the Lagers available in the UK were generally quite weak and tasteless, Stella always stood out as having flavour but also as being one of the stronger biers. I think the fact that people would drink it in the same quantities and at the same pace as other Lagers, and therefore get very drunk, earned it the nickname of 'wife beater' - not a pleasant nickname for a good quality Belgian beer. Back on topic; Thanks Khorne, I'm pleased to hear that Chavs are not confined to the UK Ahh, I see. Thanks. Cheers Wardancer. I wouldn't want to give you the creeps so you just keep telling yourself 'It's a donut, it's a donut, it's a...'
  7. Thanks Silent Mode - dry-rub decal paper again - it's the way forward Cheers Professor Flitwick - as it's a double sided head from POP I might try the frowny face Thanks Omicron, although it is intended to be viewed with a certain amount of humour I still find some elements of it a bit disconcerting myself. Sadly I would only have to walk into the town centre of where I work to see some people almost exactly like this. I would be interested to hear if there's any specific aspect that you find 'iffy'? Cheers wokajablocka. Yep, us Brits don't mind laughing at ourselves as long as nobody else is laughing at us If I get chance before the competition closes I'm going to change the colour of the lamp - It's been pointed out to me that this currently adds an additional connotation that I didn't intend
  8. Thanks Mr Man. I really wanted to use The Sun newspaper but I couldn't find an image of one with the Lego promo on the cover but The Mirror had a picture of the Storm-trooper and Imperial Speeder (30005) so I just had to include that. I wanted to avoid making a figure that was obvious or stereotypical but I suppose I have created a stereotype in a way and John Bishops' quote was a big influence on what I ultimately made. Thanks charlieboy, I amused myself thinking of little details to include (I'm most pleased with the lager name although it's probably a good thing it's soo difficult to read (a common UK nickname for Stella)). I'm very pleased that Mr Man and your good self commented early on this and saw the funny side - I was a little concerned that it may have the potential to offend. Thanks lisqr, perhaps I missed an opportunity to make a pregnant US teen but what would I call her?
  9. "Britain used to control 20% of the known world, back when we had an Empire, but now we have to take our victories where we can. "Highest teenage pregnancy rate in Europe!" Ha! Beat that, Germany!" John Bishop, Comedian It's doesn't seem so long ago that the media was referring to the UK as 'Cool Britannia' but now all we hear is 'Broken Britain' or sometimes 'Booze Britain'. Perhaps it's time we dump Britannia as a symbol of this once great nation and replace her with somebody more fitting... ...I'd suggest Brittany, the pregnant chavette. Like my other entry I haven't bought any extra items to make this but again would guess around £25 for somebody who has no decal paper, varnish or parts etc. I haven't included any extra images in my flickr but there's a version that would have been my entry had the deadline not changed in my brickshelf when public. Original image (no she's not err 'looking for business'):
  10. Before I read through the posts and realised you'd found it, my first thought was this one which is also worth a look and has some well built stuff. He also includes instructions for some of the models he's built but I can't open any of them because I don't have MLCAD.
  11. Couldn't resist a little PS tweaking and possibly nothing is revealed; EDIT: I think it just says (something, probably Endor) 'Rebel Trooper' although it looks like the first word could be 'sexy' to me
  12. Thanks Zyniker. I try to make my customs look as much like 'proper' Lego as I possibly can so it's cool that you think I have been successful. I'm also pleased that you enjoyed the story, yes it is 'trashy' and very derivative, I very much enjoyed cramming all the sci-fi references in there. Thanks Legocrazy. I was thinking about what aliens 'take-over' a body; at first I thought 'The Thing, Body Snatchers', but then I remembered that they were duplicates, the only one I could think of similar to this was not an alien as such... The Fly. I totally forgot about the guy from District 9 EDIT: I've remembered 2 more similar aliens from; The Quatermass Experiment and the 1976 Doctor Who serial, The Seeds of Doom.
  13. A really nice entry, the helmet looks great! I really like your vignette too - good idea to go for an alternative to a joust scene.
  14. Wow, that's a really sweet looking Wampa Cave, great work on the icicles and lots of nice angles . This would look great on my mantelpiece .
  15. I agree with most here - but I think the problem might be that the Falcon's lack of detail is highlighted by the amount of detail you've managed to cram into the Tantive IV. I think the Falcon could be difficult to improve on at this scale or should I say it would be challenging.
  16. I'm finding it difficult to appreciate how big that must actually be. Absolutely fantastic
  17. A world without Lego Star Wars would be a world where I would be a wealthier man. Great alternative Vader Legostien, I think you've probably found the only really effective way to do it
  18. I like the way you made the coat and you've done a good paint job, I never would have guessed you'd used filed down levers for the 'nails' . I think the alien looks quite cute which is probably a good way to catch his prey off guard.
  19. Wow, really cool bagpipes and nice vignette too!
  20. You could also have a look through the advanced building techniques topic.
  21. I finally got round to ordering the Death Star and it was delivered today . I might not open it until my son is old enough to help me build it. I also ordered the Talz magnet set because it was on offer and double VIP points for October gives me £25 to spend - that deserves another
  22. My previous title said 'refuses to flickr'. I suspect it was given to me by Kim T because at the time he blogged a few of my MOCs/Pics which was probably a bit of hassle for him as the images were only on Brickshelf. I was amused by it at the time because I did refuse to flickr - I hate putting any personal details on the internet and was under the (wrong) impression that I would have to put private info in to join . KeilDaMan has now updated it to 'Finally flickr'd'
  23. Thanks SilentMode. I'd also like to take this opportunity to say thanks for the advice you gave on dry-rub decals in my earlier topic (which I didn't want to bump at the time of your reply). It was largely down to your comments that I purchased some and have used it here for the face and torso. Thank you both. I looked at the Lego Zombie mouth for reference when designing the face .
  24. Thanks ceroknight. Thanks Luxor V. My original idea was to use an actual potato, paint a face on it and add minifig legs, arms and maybe some horns/foliage but I decided I'd probably fall foul of the 51% Lego rule . You were right to be worried. I did use a Classic Space torso but I found one that the Logo had almost completely faded away. Even then I was so sentimental I couldn't Brasso it - so I turned the torso round, the logo is still under the oxygen tank. A pointless exercise as I had to bore out the arm hole anyway, this torso will never have two arms again . Don't worry K-nut, I found a helmet that was already broken and just broke it some more . And, thanks. Thank you Legostein.
  25. I like this but I'm struggling to figure out what parts you've used. Did you cut some pieces down then blu-tack them together?
