  1. For years TLG has been limited by print technology, only being able to print very simple and sometimes basic designs. Admittedly they have done a wonderful job and have created what we have come to think of as the 'classic' Lego style. But now that new technology is available should they just continue down the same path? - I think not. Imo, many of the new more detailed prints have been successful in retaining a classic Lego style, the Rebel Pilot torso is a good example, perhaps a less successful example is Dengars' new print, which I do see as having too much detail (although I think the new face is fantastic). I actually like the new print on C-3PO, and even though it is much more detailed than previous protocol droids, I still find the design to be relatively simplistic (just look at those wires - they could have crammed in masses of them but there's just the right amount). With regards to consistency, it can sometimes be frustrating when your minifigs don't match (I don't even like to mix pupiled with non-pupiled figs) and it's a shame that they couldn't have launched this particular new design with R-3PO. It's early days for new print technology and I'm sure Lego will come up with a standard of design that many of us will come to consider a worthy successor to the design classics of the past. But ultimately we are discussing something that is purely subjective and there will always be differences in opinion.
  2. Great idea and an excellent first model. I'm looking forward to seeing more (especially when you get to the OT stuff - I think that will be Slave I on Monday )
  3. I've had my eye on any John Carter news for a while now and watched the trailer just this morning. The effects seem like they're going to be pretty good and the creature and vehicle designs look outstanding. What bothers me though is that even from the trailer I get the impression that the guy who plays JC is going to really annoy me - I already don't like his face and find his 'heroic' voice quite irritating . This film also looks like it could suffer from being as camp as the 80's Flash Gordon! I hope my fears are unfounded because I'd love to take the kids watching this.
  4. I'm surprised Jek Porkins hasn't got more votes, what's wrong with you people . He's middle aged, overweight and looks like the comic-book-guy on The Simpsons, he's clearly a nerd, a nerd who flies an X-Wing!!!
  5. I haven't seen it in the flesh yet but from the pictures I've never been massively impressed. I did end up buying one however . Largely because of some of the comments in the review here on EB and also because I knew that once it got deleted I'd regret not buying it. And remember... It's always better to regret something you have done than to regret something you haven't done .
  6. Final South Park Decals for Fett Jango... Clyde & Craig
  7. Took advantage of the S@H free delivery, free limited Christmas set and 10% off offer by ordering 7879 Hoth Echo Base and added Creationary for the kids to bump it over £100 mark. Then I used my VIP points - so got the lot for around £80, I think I did OK
  8. Do they? I can't find them on BL. We'd have to wait and see what the print is like. I envisaged some grey detailing which could possibly be passed off as a weathered look for a roof dome. But if not, Lego print is easily removed ...
  9. These must have taken some figuring out - I'm starting to think you have too much time on your hands Legostein Very impressive as always and has made me realise that a set I had dismissed as being an absolute mess is actually a very good parts pack.
  10. I think I probably share some of both Stout files and Blondie-Wan's views on 'movie purism', imho I love the films of my youth but all the new stuff, including the PT, I just view as throw-away entertainment that's just there to pass some time. In fact, I don't even care where or how any of it fits into the Star Wars cannon, it means that little to me. With regard to the Tie Interceptor being with the Death Star, I don't see it as a problem. I'd rather have this than yet another Tie Fighter mini and as for whether they existed 0BY, it doesn't really matter. I see The Death Star being used as a generic symbol of the Imperials and as such almost any Imperial ship could be included with it. My most wanted planet set would be Hoth - I don't care what mini comes with it, I just think 2 large white semi-spheres would come in handy for Tatooine roof tops.
  11. Thanks to everyone who gave me a vote - I really didn't expect to get any votes for Brittany so this just shows what a cynical bunch you are . Congratulations to all the other winners and a big thanks to LuxorV for organising this contest.
  12. South Park decals for FettJango... Let me know if you want anything changing or need any adjusting for transparent paper. I'll do the other three as soon as I get chance - I just have to do Butters he's my favourite EDIT: Well I guess I did Butters now, I'll just do others as quick as can...
  13. R2 D5 was released with 6211 star destroyer and according to Brickipedia was wrongly named. The correctly named and re-designed R2 Q5 does come with 10188 and I think it's great that we get the chance of scoring this droid from a reasonably priced set. Although, imo, the new black astromech with the 2012 Tie Fighter is now more desirable. I've noticed that the advent calendar is showing as 'sold out' on S@H UK, Amazon price has rocketed to over £40 and on eBay sales seem to averaging around £35. I wonder if there will be another SW advent calendar next year or perhaps one for another licensed theme instead, in which case this might be even more sought after.
  14. I hope Han's not going to eat that yellow snow
  15. They're very nice Brickthing What program are you creating these in?
  16. I've done Kyle for starters just to let you have a look to see if your happy with the style. I thought this would be really easy but the face needed quite a bit of tweaking - it's more squashed up than the proper faces. A potential problem is that the headpiece will probably cover the eyebrows and part of the eyes - I could drop the eyes closer to the mouth or maybe reduce them a bit? Let me know what you think and I'll tweak this & get stuck in to the rest of them asap. EDIT: Image removed
  17. Thanks guys. I can't remember if it's supposed to be rude to laugh at your own jokes? But I amused myself with this one - it's the actual photocopies that crease me up.
  18. I'm not a fan of A-Wings but you've done a good job of recreating one in Lego (or Digital Lego) here. It would be nice to see more angles though. The beauty of LDD is that it offers a wonderful test environment and actually throws up many of the mental challenges of real bricks, except you get the added bonus of not being limited by your collection. In the end though, real bricks are always better.

  22. 2 points Wardancer – Prince Maerendil on Findelhuv 1 point Darkblane – Knight of the Silver Chalice

  25. For the second year in a row, Minister of State, Leia Organa Solo got hopelessly drunk at the New Republic Christmas Party and decided it would be hilarious to photocopy her bum... Thanks to CopMike for the command to 'have fun' and the chance to win minifigs
