LEGO Star Wars 2012 Pictures and Rumors
Praiter Yed replied to XimenaPaulina's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Wow, I'm totally amazed at how great Jabba's palace looks, especially after writing this set off as piss-poor when I saw the preliminary box images a few weeks ago. 2012 is turning out to be a really exciting year for Lego in general. Anybody fancy putting a team together for a 'bank job'? -
The Fellowship of the Ring

Thanks Rumble Strike. I wonder if knowing who a Lego face is supposed to represent makes it harder to accept as someone else (strokes beard in a ponderous way). -
The Fellowship of the Ring

Nice to see your fellowship, these all look really good with beautifully designed decals and imo some really well chosen Lego faces and hair etc. It's funny how the still relatively simplistic style of Lego faces allows the viewer to 'fill-in-the-blanks', Boromir was instantly my favourite and I thought the face to be an excellent match. Incidentally, I don't recognise that particular face - who is it supposed to be really? -
I think it's a pretty good purist representation. Maybe you could improve on the mechanical leg when the new Monster Hunters (not sure if that's the right name) theme arrives - one of those guys has a robotic leg.

No worries . Just realised I shouldn't have put the light bley background on the centre section - is that what you need to tweak?
-
Looks like a nice little scene so far, is the vehicle based on something from TCW or is it your own design? I'll look forward to seeing more in April.

Just goes to show that a nicely curvaceous and slick looking version of this ship is possible in Lego and the play features/interior are a real bonus. It would be lovely to see this in real bricks. Well done Gunner .

Just bought one Endor battle pack from Asda for £5.99 - didn't expect to see it at this price so soon. I would have bought more but my daughter was with me and she always grasses on me when I buy Lego!

Just spotted both the new SW battle packs in my local Asda for only £5.99! They weren't even marked as being on offer.

I hope you haven't misunderstood my comment, I didn't mean to take any credit away from what you've done here, actually building the thing and modding it to be more stable - I just wanted to highlight, since you mentioned me, that my input towards Crabboy329's LDD was minimal compared to what he and Brickdoctor did. If/when you decide to go down the route of using waterslide decals, I would recommend using transparent decal paper. You can see here that my first attempt using white decal paper was pretty poor and that the transparent paper was much more effective. If you drop me a pm when/if you need it I can supply a Biggs' file with a transparent background for you to use. You've done a great job on the Rebel Briefing room sticker - I was thinking of making one of them myself - now I could just 'borrow' yours

I have fond memories of the day crabboy329 did his LDD version of this (maybe I should get a life?) I thought it was a brilliant example of how EB reallly works as a 'community'. With live input from Brickdoctor and myself, Crabboy329 produced his LDD file incredibly quickly. All credit really goes to Crabboy329 and Brickdoctor, they did the hard work, I only supplied a couple of pictures and the 'Rebel Cart' was kind of a joke. Apologies for the late reply, I haven't been as active in the Star Wars forum lately. I see from your updated pics that you completed the Personnel Carrier Driver - if you decide to add the white visor to his helmet, I noticed a seller in Canada is second cheapest on BL (Lucky you). As for Biggs, yes mine is a custom and if you decide to go down the customisation route you can find all my hi-res decals in my brickshelf (when brickshelf is back online ). If you would rather try a more purest approach I think I would go for this one, you could even remove the stubble by masking the face print with sticky tape then rubbing off the stubble print using a cotton-bud dipped in brasso (there are tips on this and alternative products noted in the MCW forum). Another good alternative would be this one but the colour is flesh instead of light flesh. I appreciate that neither of these have the orange goggle print but imho Biggs' 'tache is more important. Is that my design for the 'Death Star Approaching Screen' you've used? My version was actually designed to fit a 2 x 2 round tile (hi-res file is also in my brickshelf), I have applied a couple already but haven't had chance to shoot them but I can tell you, the result is spot on . I think you may be having some problems because you've used a radar dish - a nice flat surface will give better results I'm still loving this creation and hope to see more close-ups in future

Here you go, let me know if you need any changes

Brilliant! Really too much fantastic parts usage here to list but I'm particularly fond of the use of levers on the head and nose! And yeah, the skulls are a nice touch. I think this deserves two...

Not a ship I'm really familiar with but this is looking really good so far . I too prefer the smoother look of the front on your 1st version. I look forward to seeing what you do with the underside.

What a fantastic statue . The light-up eyes is a great touch and what would-be burglars would ever think of looking under this Jawa for car-keys and mobile phones etc. The log bricks do add the feel of folds in the cape but I'm surprised to read that this was a happy accident.

Thanks for the review Speedboat It's a little disappointing to see so few parts in this set but at the same time I'm impressed with what the designer has managed to create with limited pieces. I actually prefer TLG to supply a DSS than to print large pieces as it offers the opportunity to re-use parts in MOCs, it's just a shame that this set relies heavily on the DSS to provide some much needed detailing. Although still not wholly accurate I think this is a vast improvement on the previous Droid Escape release. The figures are ace, possibly a little too much detailing on the Sandtroopers but I can live with that. As for C-3PO, it's nice to see your comparison shot - I really can't understand why anyone would prefer the blurry, monotone print of the old 3PO over this new one I'll definitely be buying this at some-point, mostly for the figs, but I'm going to hang on for a good sale price.

What was the last movie you watched?
Praiter Yed replied to EbonHawk's topic in Culture & Multimedia
Ever since watching Salem's Lot and subsequently reading the book at quite a young age, I've found Vampires to be the scariest of supernatural beings. I really enjoyed Blade & Blade II but do think they are partially responsible for the spate of leather clad, gun toting Vampires which I'm really not that keen on. I also can't be bothered with all these 'sensitive', friendly Vamps we see these days. However, I would highly recommend both the Swedish 'Let The Right One In' and the equally good American re-make 'Let Me In', about a 'young' vampire 'girl' who strikes up a friendship with a bullied school boy. Although I wouldn't describe them as scary, I'd certainly say they are creepy and possibly even disturbing. -
LOTR Project Preview: Sauron
Praiter Yed replied to Nuju Metru's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
This looks really good, you just need a nice custom Isildur to fight him . There's always going to figures that Lego will not get round to producing and although it's virtually impossible to guess what they'll be, I can't imagine them making a Sauron as he's really only seen in flashbacks in the movies. I suppose it will depend on what extent he appears in The Hobbit movies and whether his appearance is different. I look forward to seeing more of your LOTR project. -
I've just done one for starters, I'll try to do more when I find the time but it might take a while . If anybody else wants to do some that's cool.

What was the last movie you watched?

Spotted this in Asda and was just chuckling at the concept, cover-art, strapline; 'Just when you thought you were safe out of the water' and description. Did you expect it to be anything other than bad? As a big fan of John Carpenter's The Thing I was actually quite keen on watching the recent prequel, The Thing. I was given a copy by a mate yesterday and watched it last night, despite some of the poor reviews, I enjoyed The Thing so much that I ended up having a The Thing marathon and watched The Thing straight afterwards. -
I'm not a huge fan of Clones and their individualised armour but your decal designs and application amaze me

Hobbestimus's Pop Culture Salad
Praiter Yed replied to Hobbestimus's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
Many of these custom designs are lost on me, maybe it's an age thing; I never watched the Ghostbusters cartoon, I never liked The Masters Of The Universe and I've never heard of the terrorist organisation known as 'Cobra'. However, I really like many of the techniques you have used here; I think the use of goggles as shoulder armour on Tomax and Xamot is brilliant and the way you have made Slimer is ingenious Where's the funny shaped, chisel jawed head from on 'Destro'? I also really like your Aquaman - simple but effective. -
You'll never find me (unless Cop Mike gives you my address ) Coincidentally I ended up with Harvey's Bristol Cream coming out of my nose when I watched 'Carry On Up The Jungle' over Christmas "1, 2, 3, 4, 5, ..." Thanks, it's nice to find that the 'Carry On' series has appeal outside of the UK.

Post your general LEGO Star Wars questions here
Praiter Yed replied to XimenaPaulina's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I bought a selection of SW weapons off eBay in the UK and this rifle was included. I don't own any Clones but it looks good enough in the hands of an old style Sandtrooper . I think these originate from The Little Arms Shop, the design has a nice simplistic, Lego-ish look and the quality is good. However, if you want something with a little more detail it might be worth holding out for possible future SW releases from Brickarms, check out Darth Yogi's review here. -
Although in general I don't mind seeing studs I do feel that this scene would benefit from a smoother look. That said, there really is lots to like about this MOC, the general layout, the v-shaped windows, your custom control panels plus I'm quite amused by the doe-eyed look of the guy ogling the female officer .
