I always enjoy seeing people doing innovative stuff with Lego's specifically molded animal parts. Well done!

Nice ship. Using a helmet for the nose is brilliant

SoF - Eurobricks Interview With The Friends Designers!
Praiter Yed replied to Pandora's topic in LEGO Town
Interesting interview. I find it a little ironic that there were cries of stereotyping and sexism when the Friends line was launched but Lego's research shows 'girly' colours and beauty are what girls actually want. I wonder if it's parents themselves that steer their kids towards sexual stereotyping by sticking them in pink or blue rooms when they are babies? Friends has finally got my daughter into Lego which is a testament to the appeal of the product, but sadly she seems more intent on collecting the figures than actually building the models (as I type that I realise that's more or less the same as me ) -
Nice build Silent Mode I like, so love the way you wrote the script and OMG that sapphic scene made me LOL

What was the last movie you watched?
Praiter Yed replied to EbonHawk's topic in Culture & Multimedia
Went on holiday with some friends and grabbed a handful of random DVDs to take. One night they picked out The Mist to watch, I described it as a monster movie and said it was good but not very Hollywood, then I tried to persuade them to watch something else. At the end of the film I received quite a bit of verbal abuse for 'bringing down the holiday spirit', I was told I was 'sick' for liking such a film and that the movie was 'shit'. If anyone doesn't know this film, The Mist is based on a novella by Stephen King and is directed by Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption). It focuses on the paranoia and breakdown of a group of people trapped in a supermarket by a strange otherworldly mist that shrouds a multitude of scary beasties. It's very atmospheric and quite harrowing in places. I'd recommend it, but don't blame me if it brings down your holiday spirit. -
Good find, I still haven't seen the Avengers so the actual opening scene will still be a surprise for me Joss Whedon to co-write and possibly direct the pilot of a S.H.I.E.L.D. tv series.

Congratulations on the raffle win! Looks like you'll find out what the secret prize is after-all :D

Well the 'Headhunter Quick Shot' is a must have for me (the 'Smuggler Special' is also nice).

Cool MOC! I think the darker image creates a look of fear on the childs face that is lost slightly when you see the vignette in full light. The 'monster' positioning is fantastic, just looks like it's creeping from around the door and I love the stripy wallpaper. I think everybody has had moments of fear of dark and this captures the right amount of innocence and terror

Nice entry cdaimers. I like the contrast of the bright colours of the lab and the stark greys of the vehicle - makes it look like the Friends are constructing something slightly sinister . Good job on also making a vehicle that can seat a minidoll

Thanks KimT. I can't beleive you mentioned Westworld, I almost included my custom Yul Brynner as a prototype android in the background but decided to add a brush instead (in an attempt to at least slightly 'Friendsify' my entry ). 'Cutesturbing' - I like it . Thanks.

Astromech Workplace Contest: Winners Annnouncement!
Praiter Yed replied to Erdbeereis's topic in Watto's Junkyard
Wow? - I don't know whether to feel happy or sad - . Actually, I'm happy of course. I really can't believe I got into the top 5 there were so many great entries and lots of them I felt were better than mine. Kind words indeed. I suspect the presentation may have bumped me above some better builders, and to be honest I felt forced to present my entry that way, partly because I had lots of information to convey but mostly to disguise my poor photography . Congratulations to all the other winners! Thanks to Erdbeereis and any other EB staff involved in organising the contest . And thanks to everyone who gave me a vote - in fact, everybody who took part and then showed good sportsmanship by voting for their fellow contestants deserves to pat themselves on the back -
Astromech Workplace Contest: Bossk's new job
Praiter Yed replied to Praiter Yed's topic in Watto's Junkyard
Thanks Cara, I'm glad you liked the backstory . For the presentation I used Photoshop to remove the background from the images and then dropped the images into InDesign to add the text, boxes and lines etc. -
Argos have 7929 battle of Naboo at £13.99. This is the cheapest I've seen this set (although it's not one I've kept an eye on) and I think it's already deleted from S@H. There's other offers worth checking out, among them a yellow 4 stud storage brick for £8.99 (I'm obsessed with those storage bricks). I've also noticed 9493 X-Wing is reduced to £36.99 - which is a little frustrating as I paid three shiney pounds more for it a few weeks ago

The guy under the stormtrooper is DV without his helmet and the Punk next to Lando is Greedo Good find KDM, these are really well done and quite funny The Chewbacca picture looks a bit like John Candy in Space Balls.

Astromech Workplace Contest: Bossk's new job
Praiter Yed replied to Praiter Yed's topic in Watto's Junkyard
Really? I thought it went roughly like this; Piett: 'Bounty Hunters, we don't need their scum.' Bossk (in a guttural growl): 'Our scum you have.' I'm not saying that's right, but that's always what I've thought. -
I agree some Super-hero films need to be dark but it seems that they're all going that way - personally I see Spiderman, Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America as ones I should be able to take my kids to watch without any worries. That said, I'd happily let my daughter watch many 12A movies but not if they're going to start throwing in the odd f-bomb. As I recall even though she's supposed to be nude, she remains covered - otherwise it wouldn't have a PG rating would it? I think if I'd seen Jessica Alba's tits in FF, I'd remember I think they're pretty much already on with production of the movie, so it's very doubtful that the rights of FF will revert back to Marvel. The guy who made 'Chronicle' is directing it.

Not a film I think would help you get to sleep either I watched Escape from LA the other night - first time I've seen it all the way through. Not as good as Escape from New York but also not as bad as I thought it would be. -
Doctor Who, Torchwood, Sarah Jane Adventures...
Praiter Yed replied to The Kid's topic in Culture & Multimedia
Well there's already been a premiere of episode 1, Asylum of the Daleks and they're trailing it on TV now, so must be soon - maybe next couple of weeks? I also can't wait! I thought the Christmas Carol episode was one of the better Christmas specials but some of my mates hated it -
I'm not quite sure why I clicked on this - I really do not like Transformers. But this Lego version is fantastic, I can't imagine how much work/thought must go into figuring out how to make this work. The animated gif is also a really cool way of presenting it.

So now we have; 'slightly disturbing', 'funny' and 'creepy' . Thanks guys. I have now updated images in first post including the WIP of my Robodoll which I posted on flickr a few weeks ago.

and I just remembered there's the guy from Sesame Street. Back on topic: I didn't think much of the one Punisher film I've seen and to be honest I had to double check that he was Marvel before posting I think another thing they got right on The Fantastic 4 films was that they were rated PG, and the movies probably seem pretty good to kids. Imho more Superhero movies should be PG - it is possible to make good kids films that can also be enjoyed by adults. I took my then 9 year old daughter watching Captain America and that was fine, luckily I didn't take her to see X-Men: First Class, I'm no prude but the one use of the F-word in that movie infuriated me.
-
You put forward a good argument and I can't really disagree with anything you've said, I think just because I Ioved the first two X-Men movies so much I wouldn't be willing to accept a reboot just yet. I would hope that an new First Class movie and possibly X4 & 5 could put right what ended up getting so messed up. I read that the original take on X3 was going to be much more focussed on the Dark Phoenix story-line but with Halle Berry hot off an Oscar win things got changed in order to make her character more prominent and therefore diluted much of the intended focus Meanwhile, in other news... Daredevil looks set to go back to Marvel. Included in the article is a link to a director Joe Carnahan pitched to Fox (featuring a funky 70's soundtrack ...Superfly...).EDIT: I forgot to mention this... There's a great little short on YouTube featuring Thomas Jane reprising his role as The Punisher - Be warned - it is very violent.ADDITIONAL EDIT: Just become a count - how boring - I can only think of two cool counts and they're both played by Christopher Lee

Had to look up what that is and where it comes from - pretty cool astromech though. Judging by the distinctive two tiered dome I'd say it's an early predecessor of the 51E series astromechs
