Doctor Who, Torchwood, Sarah Jane Adventures...
Praiter Yed replied to The Kid's topic in Culture & Multimedia
Wow, the only thing that could make him look any younger would be if he wore Crocs Meanwhile in other news... an interview with the ponds. I'm seriously tired of waiting for this series now. By the time it hits our TV screens I'm going to be 'grown out' of Doctor Who! -
Popped into Sainsbury's today only to see a truly shocking sight... 2 huge gaps on the Lego shelf marked 4432 Garbage Truck and 4434 Dump Truck both reduced to £7.50 . I was so distraught I started wandering around looking for Lego bargains but all I found was Toy Story, 7789 Lotso's Dump Truck for £9.99 in TK Maxx (too much yellow) & Lego Games' Kokoriko for £5.49 in Tescos (not bad if you need 33 white 2x2 domes but more notable because in contains 16 of the useful 1x1 round plates with a hole in the middle). I nipped back to Sainsbury's incase any more had appeared but the shelves had been restocked with newer sets, so might be worth checking out branches near you if they are clearing out older stock.

How is machine printing done?
Praiter Yed replied to nemesis4670's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
That doesn't quite make sense, a 'printing press' would be the actual print machine. Assuming Christo is using a pad printer and that the process is similar to screen print, I would guess that what he has to do is create a new pad for each colour he has to print (you would create a 'screen' for each colour in screen printing) and that his jig holds 50 parts. Therefore, printing black only, just needs one new pad - printing 3 colours, needs 3 new pads, 1 for each colour and so on... Edit: Again making a big assumption on how pad printing works; sounds like a pad, rather than printing 50 items at once, prints one-at-a-time and that's why he would need a new pad for each individual design. -
Maybe so that your nice new minfigs fall from Jabbas' palace on to nice soft carpet, rather than falling on hard bumpy Lego. I suppose that won't quite work out if you have a wooden floor I'm guessing that the technic bits (top front of gate) are there so that you can lock the gate in 'up' position then drop it on the Rancors' head. But, is there a brown hinge bottom right of this picture?

Astromech Workplace Contest: R2 Saving the Day
Praiter Yed replied to wokajablocka's topic in Watto's Junkyard
Love this entry! - Thinking big (UCS R2) and yet thinking small at the same time (a small scene with just one control panel). The control panel is very well done and the angles on your photography show the scene well. Makes me want to watch ESB! Good luck in the contest. -
Astromech Workplace Contest - Bespin Motors Fireship

Nice idea The fire helmets are pretty funny on the astromechs. Looking forward to seeing it finished. -
Astromech Workplace: R2-DJ's Dancefloor
Praiter Yed replied to Multiverse's topic in Watto's Junkyard
Funny entry! I love the disco Trooper, would be cool to see him doing a Saturday Night Fever pose. I think the Dance Floor would be better if it were made of 1x1 tiles rather than plates - but that's only a small criticism and not really viable if you don't have the parts -
I quite like the UCS R2-D2 but am put off buying it by the age-old fear of sunlight on white bricks - so this would be an excellent solution to my problem. A great idea, I think R2-Q2 is my favourite so far. Do you know roughly how much you need to spend on BL to build just one of these (average price maybe)?

Brilliant! - nice to see a solution to displaying minifigs that doesn't look really cheesy. I don't think my missus would have me putting one of these up in the lounge but I think I could get away with it somewhere

LEGO Collectable Minifgures Series 8 Rumours & Discussion
Praiter Yed replied to Piranha's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Oh, I'm gonna check that out in all it's hi-res glory on S@H - cheers Sci. As someone who just likes the CMS' to scavenge parts from, there's not much of interest to me here, although I am really happy that there's finally a black bowler hat -

What're your favorite and least favorite Star Wars sets?
Praiter Yed replied to Loco de Lego's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I still haven't recovered from seeing this monstrosity! -
It's cool to see some customs from one of my most favourite films but I agree with TeardropTrashcan that the Lego Afro hair would work well for Jules' (although perhaps a bit too big) - is the one you've used custom made? From what I can see they look pretty accurate, however personally I find it quite difficult to make out the details against the video game artwork - it would be nice to see them in a separate shot. Do you have any plans to make further Pulp Fiction characters? I'd love to see Marsellus Wallace, Mia Wallace, Butch and prossibly the Gimp in minifig form.

LEGO Star Wars 2012 Pictures and Rumors
Praiter Yed replied to XimenaPaulina's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Doh! Yes, I mean LucasFilm - I had the image of Vampire Leia in my mind which was from the ILM Halloween party invite. Thanks for the link Clone O'Patra. I know it's superficial of me, but I would be more accepting of this figure if it had a link with an official greeting card. I wonder how many 'amusing' moc's we'll see featuring our rebel heroes having fun making a Snow-R2 on Hoth? -
LEGO Star Wars 2012 Pictures and Rumors
Praiter Yed replied to XimenaPaulina's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I'm really not keen on the Snow-R2-D2, I can see the logic behind the rough looking print but personally I would have preferred something closer to the normal droid print except in white. At least a white astromech would have more practical uses rather than being purely a collectors piece. Surely the top hat would have been enough to make him look seasonal? However, I can't help wondering if this design is based on anything ILM have ever produced on a greeting card - like last year's Santa Yoda was. Does anybody know? -
Actually, after this comment... ...I've realised that my monitor at work is too dark and I could hardly see the stand - So maybe a bit of darker contrast on the background is all it needs

If only you could see what I can see with my eyes. Thank you . I think it's a case of if you look on the right side of the image with Tatooine out-of-focus it appears to be behind the Star Destroyer. As soon as you observe the picture as a whole and see Tantive IV is also out-of-focus the illusion is spoiled.
-
The forced perspective in the first shot works really well, at least sometimes. There seems to be some bizarre optical illusion going on where I look at it and Tatooine is in the backgound then I look again and it's in the foreground . Still, a lovely shot (can't believe you managed it on a iPhone!) and a brilliant Tantive IV.

Yet another beautiful creation Markus1984! There's nothing I can add to what has already been said, the bunker, the trees/vegetation and placing of the minifigs all expertly done. And, of course it's nice to see your version of Brickdoctor's excellent AT-ST making an appearance. As always, I look forward to seeing what you come up with next.

It's reduced to £38.47 at the Tescos near where I work and also more reductions on other LSW sets; Anakin's green Jedi interceptor reduced by around £7, Battle of Naboo approx £20, Planet Sets down to £7.97 and Endor Battle Packs also at £7.97.
