Decoding Lego Hieroglyphics
simonwillems replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
This is a really nice topic that I did not see before! I remember buying set 5919/3722 Treasure Tomb the year it came out. It came with a large plastic mummy and a treasure map. This was part of some sort of contest in which you could win the largest set in the Adventurers theme, the forbidden ruins. The map showed Egypt and by solving Lego hieroglyphs one could make some sort of journey on the map to a certain dam in the river Nile. When the dam was discovered the answer to the question of the contest had been found. The map also had an index of the hieroglyphs used in the Adventurers sets It was very entertaining back then, and I will see where I have stored that map.... -
PICTORIAL REVIEW: 6258 Smuggler's Shanty
simonwillems replied to Lord Of Pies's topic in LEGO Pirates
Great little set! I bought this set only a few years ago MISB and I am still very happy about it. The hut is simple but very effective as a castaway building on some deserted island, the palmleaves are a good addition to any Lego collection. This set had a nice amount of weapons, two for each pirate and two of those weapons are flintlock muskets as opposed to just pistols. Nice poll as well, but you made sure nobody can give this set a 1 which is very nice (but probably a little mistake :-D ). I gave it the top-rating. *y* -
Hello fellow Eurobrickers! I present to you the first eight-wide train I ever tried, somewhat based on the 7740 Intercity Train from 1980. I always liked this model but never got a chance to buy one at reasonable price. The setup is the same as the 7740 (one locomotive, one passenger carriage and one diner carriage), it has the same length as the 7740 but that is where the similarities end. The locomotive is powered by a 9 volt trainmotor and has 4 electric lights built in, two in front and two in the back. Cables for that run underneath the floor of the engine. Building a train in eight-wide has unlimited possibilities when it comes to the interior, the locomotive has a big walk-through engine compartment with doors, the passenger carriage has lots of seats, fold-out tables and a toilet, the diner has a small bar, some tables and a sleeping compartment with two fold-out beds, a closet and a sink separated from the rest of the train by a small door. These pictures all are clickable The entire Brickshelf Gallery Only thing is that the motor has to withstand quite a lot when pulling this heavy train through the curves, but when it's in motion nothing can stop it... :'-) All in all I am quite happy with the result, I had to enlarge my tunnel entrance, but the train is now capable to run across my entire layout. Comments are very welcome! :-)

Thanks my fellow Eurobrickers for all those kind words! I had a great day celebrating. I did not receive any Lego though... (when reaching the age of 23 people don't know what Lego to give anymore ;-) ). Wow, that's one good flawless Dutch sentence! Ein sehr sch

Thanks for this review. I am not among the potential buyers concerning this particular set... If you have the passengerplanes and airport it will be a nice addition, but it's too big for my town. I am surprised by the lack of cargospace, if Lego had given us pieces to build those wings instead of making a large mold the cargohold could have been multiplied in size. But on the other hand, looking at it I see a real-to-scale cargoplane with a nice colourscheme that looks good. I will however not go any further than just looking at it. :-)

LP Figures/sets - unproduced, prototypes, first versions
simonwillems replied to Mazin's topic in LEGO Pirates
I am aware of some town sets (dating back a few years ago) that looked different in the preliminary pictures than they did when they came out, but I don't know of any piratesets. Most piratesets were made before the digital camera was broadly introduced to the larger part of the public, so maybe those pics never leaked? But maybe there are pictures, who knows.... -
I placed three bricklink orders today and last week: ~ Powerfunctions Batterybox and a lightsensor (which apparently does not work with the computer from set 8479 :-( ) ~ A hundred times this little window ~ 70 of these big leaves for tree building :-)

Must haves! :-P However I fear incompatability with the 9 volt trainsystem... :-D

Nice topic! Here's my desktop picture:

That might work, but it goes past the idea of saving space while using the old 9 volt battery box, because now there are two battery boxes... In that case it's better to just use the new one. What I forgot to mention is that is is possible to make the system work with the old battery box when you connect the batterybox with one of the outputs of the receiver instead of using the cable attached to it. This only leaves you with one output left to control remotely instead of two. Not really that handy, but if you only want to control one function it might be sufficient.

I voted for Brainbox's residence. The outside seems rather plain, but the inside is really detailed and made with a lot of attention to small details, just like most real houses. Great contest again! *y*

Welcome Brickbrick! Quite remarkable to see such a seemingly obvious username never been used before. Those modular buildings are great fun, did you also see the 10184 Town Plan? Being into Lego can be expensive, but look at what you get! Enjoy it here. :-)

How Much Is The Origianal At-at Worth?
simonwillems replied to Tarfful's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Well, one could always try looking on bricklink, it depends what colour your box has, it seems, as there are two versions (if you mean the 4483 one from 2003) It's a rare set, that's for sure. :-) -
You don't understand, that's a ballroom, it's supposed to be empty, people can dance in there! :-D

If it wasn't for four tough university tests I had to study for, I would have entered a ship myself..... Great contest with very diverse entries in spite of the use of the same hull pieces, good job everyone! I voted for the most modern ship, Bonaparte's. What a fantastic way of photographing it on that frozen pool (?) *y*

Oh, but we do have one, there's a fireplace in there and I just love those brickbuilt curtains. (The only place I really expected a sticker) :'-)

You are most welcome! Those two loose windows are among the few parts that are different from the box art, the box (as we saw it here on Eurobricks) shows those windows changed by these fences (just as weird, I know) *wacko*

Well, after the lingual description we will now switch to the graphic version of that particular picture X-D Here it is, a scan of page 40 of the Dutch catalog. Interesting sidenote: the sets use some different parts than we saw in the box-art pictures (windows of the boat, helicopter engines). Nothing unusual, but strange to see that they placed pre-liminary designs in a catalog.... Link to the picture in my brickshelf

Hello there, As we all know Lego brought the Power Functions, as used in the big 8275 bulldozer, on the market as servicepacks on Shop at Home, so now you can buy all components separately (they also increased the price shortly after, but that's a different story...). All the components used in the buldozer are there, but also an extension wire to connect the old 9 volt system to the new power functions system. Recently I bought some power functions: motor, receivers, remote and extension wires. I already had the old system which uses this kind of battery box and I thought that with the new extension wires one could use this (to save space inside the MOC) to power the system. Consequently I did not buy a new batterybox. Here's the problem: the motor works fine with the extensionwire leading directly to the old battery box without using the receivers, but the receivers do not work when powered by the old batterybox!. I thought it was a production msitake and called Lego, but they confirmed that when you want to use the receivers you'll need to buy a new power functions batterybox. It was a design flaw they only recently discovered when playing around with the new system in the factory. So those of you preparing to buy the new power functions system, be sure to include a batterybox, or you'll end up like me.... placing an extra order to get one afterwards. :-/ Any questions or comments are welcome, of course.

Nice work! You said that it goes faster than the bulldozer, that's rather quick for a car of this proportions. Does the doll actually fit inside the car? There are no photo's of that so I suspect the answer to be negative.... :-D I am urging to use those powerfunctions myself, I know that they have arrived at my parents house some time ago, so when I get there I'll start experimenting too.... Beware... ;-)

Dwarve's Mine increase in price
simonwillems replied to natelite's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
...and $14 cheaper than in Europe. :-/
