8926 Pictoral Review. Toa Undersea Attack!
simonwillems replied to Brickmaster's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Thank you for making a review of this set. I had not seen any other pictures of it than just the box-art ones until now. It looks as like a lot of technic is used for stability, and that's a good thing because the set won't fall apart so easily when playing with it. I am curious as to the functionality of the cannon, does it shoot well? And does it shoot the 6 pieces like a machine gun? Still, If I find this set at half price (and I mean that this set is given to me together with the amount of money it costs half price), I still would have my doubts whether to take it or not.... :-D No, this is not a Bionicle fan typing this post, as you can see, but I like the review nevertheless... -
How to make a Roman helmet: tutorial
simonwillems replied to Tanotrooper's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I like the idea of making your own helmet out of some standard pieces and although it looks a bit blocky I do believe in a way it really resembles a Roman helmet. I myself would have tilted the red tile on top 90 degrees. *y* Well, that wasn't very constructive feedback.... -
This is a very rare set, it was never available in The Netherlands. Thanks for reviewing it, it seems a rather simple set but the simplicity makes it great. I do not own any Ninja sets but I have always liked the idea of the theme.

Very nice! Why is the key to the chest hanging right next to it? Doesn't it belong underneath someones pillow? X-D

Good, ssshhhh.... :-D

Welcome to the forum, Lego Monster. Interesting name... Enjoy it here! :-)

Don't blame yourself for that, blame Maj.com instead because their server is down, that way I can not see your buggy although I'm curious to see it. When it's back on I'll return and give some proper feedback.

Wow, this beauty has my vote, it captures the exact look and atmosphere of the real thing! *wub*

Welcome new member Gouns! Do you have a link to your website, so we can see your city? I cycled a lot through northern France, it's beautiful there, are you in the Alsace? Enjoy it here, I'm sure you will. :-)

I do envy your great eye-sight, that's about 200km! :-P

What beautiful cars! I am a great fan of your work, all these cars are so well thought-through, with opening doors, hoods and trunks. Fantastic. *wub* The cars I make are the Legoland scaled ones, so 1/20, and I have been looking at your brickshelf folder for some inspiration very often. Is there any particular reason that made you decide to build the cars in a 1/22 scale instead of 1/20? I often find it very hard to capture enough detail in the 1/20 scale, so it must be tough designing it in the scale you use. Are the pieces you use for your windscreens Lego ones? I can't figure that out. *y*

Nice! It must be quite painful though, submerging in pointed diamonds... Watch out for the other eye! ;-)

Well, I do own the real Watto... *searches Bricklink* WOOOW Let's treasure him, shall we. Nice customs 1devils1!

Somehow I competely missed your review when you first made it, I saw your pics on brickshelf and wondered about the review... You have managed to review my all time favourite technic set! It was the first large Technic set I was given by my parents, when it first came out in 1995. I played for hours with this set, making minifig seats in it (it was so huge there was room for four minifigs to sit next to eachother in front....) I made various applications for it, a bungee-jump system with a large rubber band, and lots of containers to be lifted. The first changes I made included the inverting of the wheels and the disabling of one of the flashlight-steering wheels because they obstructed eachother. By the way, the nob for your winch is yellow instead of black (I know this set by heart, so watch out :-P ). I always liked those nobs. I do own the 8421 and I can tell you: this 8460 is much, much stronger, it can carry more weight because the boom is lighter then the 8421: they are powered by the same two pistons... You know when you made it right: when the crane is in upright position, fully extended and you release the brake from the winch. Does the hook lower without having to pull it? If it does, you succeeded in constructing the set right. The alternate model was great fun too, the pump is cleverly hidden and the crane folds up great between the cab and the loading platform. You could easily mod it with a pneumatic claw on the crane, a motor to turn it and a compressor. The only flaw was the loading platform which had no floor (only some axles). Thanks so much for reviving my memorie concerning this great set! *y*

That's an interesting contraption, and that sure is the SNOT principle. It does not work though, there's no lead leading from the battery box to the engine.... *sweet*

I think your problem does not lie in the cannon's power but more in the lightweight of the ammunition. Try shooting with something heavier, you might have to remove the pin in the center of the barrel, then you can load it with lead or any other kind of metal. Just my two cents.... Interesting to see the inside of the cannon's system for a change, I have had cannons for almost all of my life, but never tried to open one up.

Welcome Fluyt to our forums! Are you from Holland as well, because you choose a Dutch type of ship to be called? Enjoy your time here. It is a Dutch word which sound does not excist within the English language, I am sorry for you >:-) I believe the way mr. Fluyt wrote his name is the ancient way to write Fluit, which is more common today when referring to the ship's type and also the direct translation to the English word 'whistle'. EDIT: it seems we crossposted the same explanation....

Very cool in two ways! *wub* I believe the models George Lucas used in the original films where not much bigger.

I placed a Bricklink order containing 12 red epaulettes, one white minifig vest, one yellow minifig vest and a polar bear. You think it's a strange combination? Why? :-P Very nice! I have one too, only the more recent one from the 'flags and fences' set, yours looks better though as the logo is covering the entire flag.

Since the new postal line is finally available in this country I set out and bought the small mailman vehicle, 7731. Nice set, but with flimsy doors that stick out the back a bit. You are a wise man indeed, I consider the same action.

It seems I missed this thread when you first started it, and that's a shame because your city is really nice. What a good idea to use tiles instead of roadplates, you sure have a LOT of tiles to achieve that. *y* I like the memorial in the center of the marketsquare, it is always nice to have some things like statues or ancient walls in a city, I did something like that as well and it really gives the scene a certain atmosphere. Maybe (if I were you) I would make some more lightposts to put in the middle of the square. All in all you created a lively market, keep on going like this! *wub*

Official Magnet Statement from TLG
simonwillems replied to AgentRick's topic in General LEGO Discussion
You are right, they are not available yet, not even here in Holland.... It seems like we are going back to the magnets used in the very first trains, a swivel magnet that could not be removed from the 2x4 plate it was attached to. They are compatible with the current magnets though. -

Well, I'm off to Bricklink then to buy some loose magnets, if I ever feel the urge to swallow some at least I'll be able to do so... :-| Why would they suddenly want to change those magnets, they've been around for 28 years now? Can't hey just write on the box something like: 'use licorice for your swallowing needs and these magets for your train-connecting business'? Never mind me, I'm just a little confused... ;-) -

Well, I am curious as to how this will work. It seems the pieces are already available, anyone interested in buying a couple and show us in a thorough review? There will be no more magnets I am afraid, so the system has to have some other capabilities.
