MEC Category A: 79020 A Shortcut to Mushrooms
Artanis I replied to Sir Gareth's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
This is a nice little set that could've been a good cheap option. -
I have at least 1 of all of the sets. Only polybag I have is the Elrond one. (You can't get them here anyway.) If I could find Barrels or Goblin Town again I would grab another, if the price was okay.

Thanks everyone. You are partly right, he wasn't in that part of the battle, but quote Pippin: "HE'S NOT DEAD!" And if you have any Star Wars sets you know that TLG will put a minifig in that doesn't quite belong!

MEC Category A- Battle at the black gate strategy game
Artanis I replied to buffalo movies's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Nice idea. Shame that the board games line didn't last so long, I bought & enjoyed quite a few, as did my mum, but I don't think she got the LOTR one. -
Suggestion to reduce the number of old topics being bumped
Artanis I replied to TheBear's topic in Forum Information and Help
No different from a what a post says when the topic was first created, but the longer between posts, the more annoying an empty post is. But then you could argue that the most eloquent and interesting bumping comment is still fairly pointless since the creator may not read it anyway. I suppose you are earning the privilege to bring back an old moc by doing some work? It shouldn't be a habit though, it would get irritating if it happened too often. -
Haha those flick fires are hilarious. Nice crashing trees too, but perhaps you omitted the exploding wall play feature?

Suggestion to reduce the number of old topics being bumped
Artanis I replied to TheBear's topic in Forum Information and Help
I don't agree with useless bump posts such as "cool moc" etc, but I really don't mind old moc topics being resurrected. If you've seen it before, great. Good art is good art, and can be appreciated again & again. Eurobricks is an adult site, where it is assumed that we have a slightly longer attention span than perhaps those on 4chan where yesterday's posts are now old and obsolete. Bumping a years old question or discussion, something like that, I don't agree with so much. But I do think that an alert would help some people to think twice about their post if they haven't realised how old the topic is or how long since it died, should that make their post now unnecessary. -
Really interesting development. But the first one looked the coolest! Probably because it looked more solid and had bigger guns

Looks great. What head did you use for Bilbo? -
In that case "everyone's a winner"?

Nice looking set, and the play features are good ideas & well done.

I only just realised that all of the orcs this wave are new. Well, that hairpiece and the faces. Sure they look really similar, but they're different enough from what we already had. Torso variation probably would've been better, but 1 crumb is better than none.

MEC Category A: 'The Watcher in the Water'
Artanis I replied to Bugbot2008's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I haven't seen those tooth parts before! The watcher certainly looks scary enough, and I think it's a good representation. -
There could have been a set like this. "Why, TLG, why?!?" Small & cheap. A bit of ruin, some important but thus far missing characters. And you've included the exploding wall & ubiquitous catapult, very savvy! Funny that the 3 Gondor based entries all have similar Faramirs... haha. Great minds must think alike. Or it's just really obvious to us fools.
-
Obviously it's a good idea, but well done on the execution and the effort put into it. I can see this pretty much as a real set, and would jump at it, no hesitation. Maybe brick built "boats" would look even better and add better variety to the part colours? You've captured the scene very well and have done a good job with the minifigs.

MEC Category A: Mordor Army Siege http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=101892 -
The Missing Set - Mordor Army Siege A gaping hole in the range of Middle Earth Lego sets is that of Gondor, and the siege & battle at Minas Tirith & Pelennor Fields. This entry is 1 of perhaps 3 sets to rectify that. (The companion sets would be something like "Grond at the Gates" "Pelennor Fields Battle" etc and contain a fell beast, mumak, Eowyn, Denethor, Grond, Haradrim + variations of existing characters.) Mordor Army Siege contains a stretch of Minas Tirith outer wall, an orc siege tower, a battle troll (I would suggest a colour and/or print variation to what we have here), 4 orcs (2 new versions, & 2 repeats. Could easily just have 2 each of the new. 4 of the original would suck a bit), 2 Gondor soldiers (pikeman with White Tree shield, & archer/bowman) and Faramir in ranger garb. As this is "supposed to be" an official set the obligatory flick-fire missiles have been included (where they should certainly not be) and working catapult. Multiple wall sections would be connectable to each other. (Yes, I know that the plates on the bottom are in the way... it was too much hassle to pull it all apart again to fix that!) Other play features include an "explodable wall" segment, weapon & armour storage on the tower, and the mobile tower itself. The tower roof opens up for easy access, and the door folds down & open (as you would expect!). The tower can be picked up easily with one hand without falling apart, something I'm not used to forcing upon my mocs, but an official set needs to be solid, stable and not flimsy. This is intended to be one of those "buy multiples of" sets. Who wouldn't want more (different) orcs, Gondor soldiers, Minas Tirith wall, battle trolls, rangers (swap out the head?) and materials for siege weapons? And the shield if done properly (I think you can get that shape without the stud?) If you are wondering about the parts from the minifigs, the Gondor soldiers are simply fleshified Crownies + Uruk-Hai armour. The heads are from POTC, and the shield is obviously a piece of printed paper sticky-taped to an old castle octagonal shield. I hope that counts as a "decal you have made yourself"! Faramir is a combination of Aragorn's torso & legs, Eomer's cape & head, + elf hood. The grey custom orc uses a Chima head & arms, legs & (reversed) torso from Moria orc + castle cowl. The quiver hides the green "triangle" on the back. The other orc uses legs, torso & helmet from Fantasy Era "troll" + Yazneg's head & arms. The tower I originally built (but didn't get a roof on yet) was just way too flimsy & big, this version is about half the size, but I believe that if TLG made this set that the tower would be even smaller. The other tower is shown in the album. You may have noticed that I underestimated the amount of white parts I had available... I was genuinely surprised, and to get the wall to this size was a huge stretch. As such, the appearance and stability suffered. It looks even more amateur than I would have liked! Fortunately I didn't build the Minas Tirith gate section as I had earlier planned... Link to Flickr album I hope you like it! Or at least the essence of it.

Yeah, the Jedi & Sith are both orders of "knights". Strict clubs, if you will. Just because you can do some of what they can do doesn't mean you're a club member. Just because you can use the force doesn't make you a jedi or sith. It makes you a force user. It just so happens that most force users are identified by the jedi order, so many of them become jedi knights. "Hey, you're really good at playing darts, wanna try out for our dart club?" Likewise using the dark side of the force doesn't make you a sith. There's more to it than that. Saying you're a sith doesn't make you one. Merely announcing myself as a king is not going to give my descendants a royal bloodline. I have to be able to legitimise and/or defend the claim. Darth Maul got his everything handed to him by Sidious' little fingernail as soon as Maul had announced himself as a sith, thus debunking that one.

The fell beast doesn't have to use all of the same parts as Smaug. It would require a new head, unless something from Ninjago is appropriate. It doesn't need as long a neck or tail. It could use the Castle wings or legs or whatever. However it went, a few of his parts could be reused and it could still be a reasonable size difference. Reusing the Castle dragon is a better plan than reusing Smaug, however.

All dragons have had studs on the back. Actually I don't have any vikings dragons so I don't know, but all other dragons have. By "all", I mean both. Both dragons...

A LEGO reality show... a good idea or a bad one?
Artanis I replied to XAxles's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I know what you're getting at, but there are also public owned stations that broadcast things that may or may not attract numbers, but are shown for their educational or real "reality" documentary-type value. Not your David Attenborough nature documentary sort of thing, but more like the "blog" sort of travelling diary thing. Plus, every channel has to put something at 4am! I'm just saying that ratings isn't everything anymore. Buuuut... you could say that in a way it IS an infomercial after all , since it's a 30 minute ad for Lego... -
Poor Lumi. But what's with not understanding "do, or do not, there is no 'try'"? Pretty obvious to me. Anyone with jedi training should understand it too!
