I know that, but that would rather be the reason not to release an official set than doing it with he wrong colours. Good to see TLC never produced a lime Death Star for example before they had gray and dark gray bricks.

That´s a really interesting poll, Brickster! I only own 4512 (actually my son does ), but I have to admit I voted for 7898. And that mainly for the reasons, Brickster already pointed out: The great accessories made me buy the blue truck, the forklift and the cargo (packed in their own polybags!) off ebay. I wasn´t sure about the RC-trains at that time and still I am. Having built my first RC-train some days ago (I got the chassis on last years event in Günzburg and bought the controller at Bricklink´s) I love the sound of the motor - sounding like a tram , but I don´t like the idea of being captured to waste batteries on it. The horn, well we´ve read enough about it... This is no "Con" - it´s a "Pro"! These chrome gold tiles are so rare, I´m glad they were included to this set. I agree with you: The diesel engine fits better to a cargo train, BUT I like the 7898 engine better. Great parts to MOC with. Maybe ... some day ... I´ll get it. Well, okay - I won´t comment.

I believe if the prices would have been printed in the catalogue as well, we all would start to cry. Look here to find a beautiful MOC of a TEE, Hobbes.

Excellent! Now add this to the new modular fire station. I might give it a try when I get mine. Thank you for the inspiration!
-
The "original": and to my big surprise it really doesn´t look like the footstep is sunken in! Well done, CopMike! I wondered who brought you to this idea...
-
I know this was a lot of text and photos, but: ...does that answer your question? Yes, 367 is soooo . A BLUE landing module??? And there were NEVER three astronauts on the moon simultaneously.
-
Thanks for the review! As I mentioned before: Owning the complete modular house 'street' so far, this is a "must buy". Minor detail changes not excluded.
-
Today I found this at 1000steine.de: The COMPLETE PaB-wall photographed box by box.
-
What the $%&§ ??? Text fixed.

I was shocked to see this thread being opened, before I was able to finish my review for this brilliant set. Now it´s done. *phew*
-
Okay, Copmike - forget what I was telling you about the thing I figured out in my last PM... How could I think, an ambassador wouldn´t find out about the new 2x4 dark tan bricks? I wasn´t able to get them seperately, meaning not buying the new Lego games to get them (what I will be doing anyway ) I was told to wait till august (that counts for the white round plates with hole as well). The 2x2 jumper plate is a nice addition.

"Houston, Tranquility Base here. The Eagle has landed!" Celebrating the 40th anniversary of Apollo 11, I thought it was time to make a review of this fantastic set. Set #: 10029 Theme: Discovery Release Date: 2003 Pieces: 467 Minifigs: 2 Price: $40, sold in North America only (?) Now available for 80 - 180 $ (Bricklink) Peeron Brickset Bricklink Here we go: The package: and it's backprints: The front was quite boring, but the backprints are really nice! It shows the set as well as the original photos! Let's have a closer look at that: The landing module ("Eagle") and it's location inside the Saturn V rocket. So this is how the landing gear works. This is what contains the box: A lot old gray and old dark gray parts, combined with tan and a few white bricks. Random shot of the instructions: No piece call outs? Well, that was 2003. Look who we found to help us build this set: Let's go. First we're going to build the lower part of the module. Careful now: Now the landing gear: Looking good, but isn't there something missing? This is modular building: The two antennae: Last preparations before we put this together: If only we had a crane : Finsihed! One shot for the family album. Everybody smile, please! The big after work-party (if NASA knew that). Enough for now - we've got to go home. Unusual/nice parts to this set: Two octagonal windscreens in old gray (exclusive), two 4x6 bricks, 1 old gray, 1 old dark gray, 2 chrome silver tile 1x2 grille and 4 Wedges (Plate 6 x 6 Cut Corner) in tan (exclusive), I forgot to take a photo of. The use of stickers (almost acceptable , actually one of the smallest I've seen ): So this is it: Compared to the original thing: The fun to build history with you own bricks: "That's one small step for (a) man, one giant leap for mankind!" (OK, I know it was Neil Armstrong's phrase and this is Buzz Aldrin getting out on the moon. ) Sidenote: Did you actually know what Charles Conrad (commander of Apollo 12) said, when he first stepped on the moon? "Whoopie! Man, that may have been a small one for Neil, but that's a long one for me." That's pretty funny! CONCLUSION Price: 6/10. What counts for all sets not being officially available any more counts for this set as well. You pay double to five times the price. For the parts itself it's way to much, but taking into consideration that this is "the" Eagle, well - it was worth it for me as I love historic icons. Parts: 7/10 Oldgray octagonal canopy, white backpacks and NASA-torsi only available in this set. Brick 4x6 far more common than I thought. (My first bricks of that kind). It's old dark gray and old gray, btw. Too bad there was no crater plate coming with it. Minifigures: 9/10 Two astronauts, exclusive to this set: Neil Armstrong and Edwin E. "Buzz" Aldrin (don't ask me who is who ) . It's just two, but more wouldn't have been historically accurate. Michael Collins stayed in the Columbia, the command module, "travelling" in the lunar orbit. Build: 7/10 Nothing really special, no repetitive build, nothing too complicated. Some technic elements to make the gear working. A few basic SNOT techniques. Can be build by a 6 year old. Playability: 9/10 Limited swoosh-factor, but still a great set to play with. Working landing gear. You can lift off the upper part of the landing module. It's minifig size and you can pose the figs like the real happenings (see above). Overall: 8/10 This is one of the sets, you'll have to be interested in. I can imagine that there are a lot people out here who will say "Naa, nothing special", but as I mentioned some times before, if you're interested in mankinds history, this is one iconic moment you can build and play yourself.

This must be telepathy! Imagine what I did three days ago? I made the same MOC: A red shunter! I was just too lazy to take pictures of it, but here you are: the original the copy me and my train and the complete folder (with a RC 9V swiss "Krokodil" I made in the same session) I like yours, but I have to say mine is closer to the original (except for the roof, but I liked it better this way). Thanks for opening this topic and reminding me not to be so lazy... EDIT: Sorry, I forgot: Nice 4512 shunter, Hobbes!

I started reading BJ three years ago when the older digitally issues were for free. I downloaded them and printed them - two pages on one sheet of paper. Therefore it was rather small and black/white only, but I really enjoyed it. Later, when Joe stopped the free download, I decided to buy some printed versions. I got them via 1001bricks, a french BL-store which sells them for 12$. Otherwise it´s too costly to get the printed versions off Meno´s website. I´m interested in the compendia, where 3-4 issues are combined in one bigger "book". If only the shiping costs were cheaper. I´m eagerly awaiting what TLC is planning about BrickJournal. It looks like they want to "incorporate" the magazine. For me it would be a great deal - if they are going to sell the mag in Germany then. This was one of the best BJ issues! And that´s what I voted for in the last poll topic: "Insider information and news about The LEGO Group"
-
Thanks for this great review! I voted "excellent", because this set seems to be the "ambush in Cairo" set for the Harry Potter line. I wished I had bought it when it was still available.
-
Thanks for telling us about the questionnaire! I´ve added "work (harder) on better quality (no colour variation, no squashed stickers)" and made this my top priority. You still can buy them off Bricklink, for example here. Look under "Unsorted Lots". (Located in France, but maybe there´s a seller in you region, too?)

Bags Galore! And StormTroopers!
Holodoc replied to The Alchemyst's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
25€, available in german lego stores. The inside should be around 34 x 29 x 8 cm. The chrome stormies are around 6,99 - 9,99€ (depending on the source ). I´ll be in the store in Munich in three weeks. Shall I get some for you? -
Very brave to give an impression about one of the oldest sets ever reviewed! A lot members here are younger than the set itself. I think you will have to have grown up with it to like it. Nowadays we have seen quite a few better airplanes than that one, for example this years 7643 . But thanks for letting us know. Btw., the 1x1 round brick with the solid stud is no. 3062a instead of 3062b (with the hollow stud).
-
Welcome Walrus keeper! Nice to notice we have another family consolidation around here. Did you see the walrus´ blue bucket lately?
-
I haven´t been to Munich yet. But I´m going to change that as we´re staying at Tegernsee on our vacation in two weeks. I had a look at the location where the Munich store is located. It´s quite far off the center of Munich. But if it´s better than the store in Frankfurt it´ll be better than Cologne and also Oberhausen - both look very similar to the new store. It will be worth it then. Chrome Storm Trooper - here I come!
-
At least for me it wasn´t. Thanks for posting!

Here you go. ...not satisfied? ... better?

Well written, Dave! I agree to Santa Fe (wonderful and looooong train is you build some more cars to it - in contrast to the BNSF: wonderful engine, but no cars to it ) and Emerald Night (putting the building techniques and studlessness to a next level), but having started in the 9V era, I had no connection to the 12 V trains - until a month ago (more to that later). I can´t get anything from those 12V trains: Too blocky and the colors are sometimes weird (I know, they didn´t exist at that time). For me the nostalgic set is: 10205 , the older "My Own Train" steam engine. I also love how you can change the colours of the train from black to blue/green/brown. I was able to get my hands on this set. I´m starting with 12V now, but I´m not going to expand it because of $$-reasons. Man, the remote controlled lights, points, crossings and decoupling are expensive!!! I don´t really know what makes this set so "adorable". Red and black, diagonally painted? The blocky silhouette? And it lacks another car, in my opinion. Well, we have seen everything better already.
-
Very well done, Selander! I recall those older trains. Your MOC is a great copy of it. I´m impressed about the complete layout of yours. Is it all placed in your lair? Or did you make photos on an exhibition? And I would like to know what the white/brown TEE is. Is that the colour of the train in your place? Looking at your collection, you like to alter the colours of your engine, don´t you? Nice amount of cars. Thx for sharing. Nothing to worry about. Everything is fine.

This is great! Do you own the mid-scale MF? I´d love to see both next to each other.
