[WIP] Lego monorails. [Custom Rail Systems (CRS)]
Holodoc replied to Trekkie99's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I believe somebody asked it here in the thread, so I decided to take a photo: This is the 2-wide monorail curve with 4x19 elements combined to a 180° curve compared to standard 9V track, the smaller 4-wide track and the flexible solution djm figured out. You can see that the monorail curve is wider than the 9V track. But the curve can be bent (a bit more) to fit the 9V curve! If you look closely 14 elements are left over in this case. So if you build the curve parts with 16 instead of 19 elements 4 of those elements would result in a 180° curve. -
Damn! He blew it!

We still do some kind of surgery every day by banning the members manually. This was no option for the future though, so we decided to try something else.

AFOL designer program
Holodoc replied to anothergol's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
What did you expect? They didn't do that with ideas - for a reason. And TLC continues to not allow that with the ADP either. Why should they resurrect old themes when they could create new ones? In other words we never would have seen Ninjago if TLC just sticked to the old themes. And of course they can't allow to have new creations on other peoples (licensed) IP. Yes, I also would like to see great renditions of older themes and I also would like to have a monorail back, but that is another story and not what the ADP is made for. There is still room for great other MOCs. Just look at the great planes in this topic here. -
How to use slide Rail pieces in LDD help
Holodoc replied to Shroud's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Hello new member (with the almost not writeable name...) You may not have noticed that you resurrected an 8 year old (=dead) topic. That's a no-go! And not the smartest thing to start with. You could have opened a new topic about your concerns, because you are handling with different parts than the topic starter. Even better: Tell something about yourself (give input to us) in the welcome thread and then ask your questions (to get input from us). By the way: Your post is a better read when you use links to the parts you are writing about. I for myself have no idea what parts you are referring to. So I have more work to answer because you refused to put more effort in your question. Just as a tip for the future. Please refer to the help in my signature if you have questions about what is good handling around Eurobricks. Thank you. P.S. The part numbers you provided don't make any sense to connect (besides 4510). -
I am not sure what the primary intention for Cuusoo was, but when we held a little conversation with officials at TLC on one of our events in Billund, they told us that bringing new people to LEGO was at least one of the reasons to do ideas. And for your comments on MOCs: You don't have to build everything exact the way your example looks like. With one exception to the rule: Technic MOCs! Here I agree with you: Sometimes its almost impossible to figure out how a MOC was made. For all(most all) other MOCs counts: Be creative! Many roads lead to Rome! A lot of us (inclusive me) stick far too much to building instructions!

AFOL designer program
Holodoc replied to anothergol's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Thanks for posting the rules of the new program. Still I think it's another ideas-site. There are quite a few ideas on their way to 10.000 votes which will never reach that sum (like this expired one , this or this). I for myself would like to see those ideas at the AFOL Design Program as well, but these are excluded. Too bad. And it will be online just for a couple of months? You have to upload everything until November, 18th and it will be a anniversary set in 2019. I see what Bricklink is planing with it (and it's no bad thing about it): They want the AFOL to switch over to Stud.io V2 where you have a closer link to BL order service. Clever. But why not? I have merged the topic with the other one and moved all to the digital tools subforum. I apologize if it's a bit confusing at the beginning. -
AFOL designer program
Holodoc replied to anothergol's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
To sum it up, it looks like an ideas V2 to me. But for a limited time only and with crowdfunding. Maybe another chance (also) for rejected ideas-ideas? It raises more questions than it answers. I have to sleep a night on it. -
One of the problems in my opinion is, that the purpose of the ideas' website is to get new people to build with LEGO. Think about a person who is not familiar with LEGO. Why should he/she support an idea about a LEGO train? In his/her eyes TLC produces this trains: The mentioned passenger and cargo train one every second year. If this person would be interested in trains he/she would have bought one of those. Ideas is NOT for us AFOLs to have super-duper sets the company never would produce otherwise. Although sadly enough a lot of us AFOLs think this way. Don't get me wrong: I love LEGO trains and I have a huge amount of trains from the last years. Still I am satisfied what LEGO released the last years that was 'off-track' to the normal city sets: Horizon Express 2013 MAERSK Train 2011 Emerals Night 2009 And, yes, the next Creator Expert train is overdue! Finally we are AFOLs: If TLC doesn't produce what we like it's up to ourselves to put something together that satiesfies our needs. How hard can it be to build the tram mentioned above ourselves? Okay, that went slightly off topic, but I had to write it. One last point: The official statement from TLC about not producing the tram was really, really poor. It didn't explain anything.

Who manages the LDD accounts?
Holodoc replied to rookie55's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Welcome to Eurobricks, rookie55! Sad to hear youo lost some of your 'intellectual property' when TLC chose to pull the plug (of LDD). Your own lxf-files don't help? For your question: I fear not and I don't know if anybody outside TLC has the hands on data the company's program gathered. But I sincerely doubt it. While you are asking: Is there actually a place where all the designs are stored? I don't think so. -
[WIP] Lego monorails. [Custom Rail Systems (CRS)]
Holodoc replied to Trekkie99's topic in LEGO Train Tech
So it's time for me to get out of the shadows. I've been following (litterally) this topic for some months now and have read every progress in my weekly summary. Then I stumbled upon a similar topic over at 1000steine.de and good hooked to try my own stuff. First of all: Thanks to all of you contributing in this topic - it's amazing to see the solutions you come up with!!! In general I found out that I'm more into "system"-based building, not Technic. I often stumble across gaps that drive me crazy, because they are something in between 0 and 1 plate. Or the gears don't fit to other gears. Well, time to get out of the comfort zone: I made two different designs, one based on Masao Hidaka's train and one with one bogey, like FiliusRucilo made. Both work well. The first is driven via an SBrick, the latter by TLC's IR controller, which needs another carriage on the other side of the motor to make it move more smoothly to both sides. I worked on different ways to build the track: One with 1x1 bricks on the side which is bend outwards (up left), one with 1x2 bricks instead and Mark Bellis idea with plates (below). I also tried a version with 1x2 log bricks (up right) - but the use of them doesn't show any advantage. While the huge parts usage was already noted here, I still see no advantage on either of the more parts intensive solutions. The version with 1x2 bricks (offsetted on either side) works well and does not use so many bricks. Yet im dissatisfied with the huge curves and definitely will try djm's version in the near future. Then come the ascending and descending parts and last the switches. Work until 2020 I assume. -
These are all fantastic entries. Congratulations to every single builder taking part in this contest. Well done, everybody! I couldn't have build anything like that, so I would like to reward everybode. Finally it's just the details that made the points and to a lesser extent the presentation: with a looong distance to the second. Extremely well done, nice color selection, nice presentation, a lot of details. Holy cow, what a build - and a well deserved 1st place! 1: 10 8: 6 12: 4 5: 3 10: 2 4: 1 One last note: I would go on neither of the rides! I believe to be zapper the worst of all!

AFOL designer program
Holodoc replied to anothergol's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
That would make sense! It has got to be something that explains the co-work of TLC and Bricklink. And I appreciate the idea! @zux it doesn't have to be successful if it's done by BL. It's just another on-top idea, another feature. Failing wouldn't cost BL much. -
AFOL designer program
Holodoc replied to anothergol's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Today, Bricklink started a teaser page on their website about the soon to be relased AFOL Designer Program. Mmmmh. Sounds intriguing! What is that exactly? One quote from the site: "What is the AFOL Designer Program? This program celebrates creativity by realizing unique AFOL designs with truly original themes. What better timing than to kick it off in the year of the 60th anniversary of the LEGO brick? For a limited time, BrickLink will be hosting the AFOL Designer Program. We are honored to help highlight your creativity and help make your designs a reality." What can we expect? The words above are plain promotional yadayada. What will it be? An upgraded LDD or Stud.io? An alternative Ideas? Or something completely different? The good: It's in official collaboration with the LEGO group! And it's seems to be dedicated for AFOLs! We'll find out in 5 days. EDIT: The same day TLG's website rebrick.com will go offline. Coincidence? Oh, the suspense! Let us know what you think! -
[REVIEW] 42080 - Forest Machine
Holodoc replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
That's thumbs up for you, Jim, taking so much work for such a ... B-model. Pro: At first glance: Yeah - it's got pneumatics! Con: The overall look - the side-view of the A-model's front cabin is really awkward the colors (THE COLORS!) red, orange, yellow, light green, green, azure, blue, white, light grey, dark grey, black - and everything can be seen in the final model! the playability: you named all the technical problems, but besides that the cart isn't really able to cut the wood at all! pneumatics! (see above) Wouldn't have actuators and motors been a better choice for accurate handling? the price tag for all that! I really wonder what the concept behind this vehicle is. -
Nice review once more, Jim! First I thought: Why a forklift? Not a device of my favourites in general. :look: But then again it's 'just' 50€ - cheaper than expected! '16L beam' is the lifting height? I would have loved to see a photo of this. Or is the last phot of the A-model at maximum height of the fork?

It has always been the same for years now. But when I made two versions of that tracked racer to battle against each other on a local festival, I felt the same way you did: Why has the sound to be there? Couldn't it be just silent? For the hot days right now (the hottest summer for the last 15 years) I made a LEGO fan out of a windmill: It's chilling capabilities are actually very well, using the L-motor and blades from set 9688, but it comes with a super annoying noise.

Thank you for the review I have been waiting of. It's a fun read and contains most of the things I wanted to know. One thing would have been the comparison between this set and the old IR RC cars. I'm all into moving models, yet this set is not on my buying list, once because of the price tag and then because of the model itself. For my taste TLC could have skipped the Batman license completely. But maybe we'll see a similar RC car in another surrounding/theme soon. As a side note I was disappointed to see how bad the 'red mode' is working when it comes to precisely moving the Batmobile around (not moving at 50% at all? ). Good to see it seems to work on the 'blue mode'. All in all for me it would end up in a much lower overall score of around 5/10.

Very nice collection (and photos) indeed! And you have got the magenta legs! Well done. Where did you take them from? Absolutely seconded!

Looking at Jipay's reply seven posts above, you could have come to the thought that replying 8 years later may not be the smartest move... In general we prefer not to dig out any decomposing bodies. For the future please open a new topic. Or in this case asking someone of staff to give you the ambassador tag would have been enough. Besides that I agree the topic could need an update. If we know about the current ambassadors... For "cycle 7" I can only assume it's the number TLC uses for each "round" of new ambassadors.

What a wonderful and in-depth review this once more is! Especially when it comes to the history of the figures in the movies, you almost covered everything. I still enjoy looking at the crisp and clear photos, they are a class of it's own! From time to time they would have benefitted from a darker background though. For the series itself it's an easy pass for me. On the one hand I'm not willing to spend 4€ on one minifig, if it's not something special. As much as I would like to get my hands on the new briefcase or the new animals I am not spending this amount of money for them. On the other hand I do like the quality of the printings, but then again I already have some HP minifigures and surely don't need the x-th rendition of Harry or Dumbledore. Compared to the last collectible minifigure series, it looses creativity-wise and parts-wise.

[REVIEW] 42083 - Bugatti Chiron
Holodoc replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
What an absolutely blasting in-depth review! You mentioned details I wasn't aware of they existed. There is one thing I would like to see, and I'm not sure if this has been covered somewhere else: A photo with both supercars next to each other? Pleeeaase? -

No, just images. Forgot to mention that. For me the link isn't working. Could be because I'm not registered to that website yet. -
Thank you very much for the step-by-step description of your solution! I am not using this kind of software, but if somebody else does (and I believe some do), could you please confirm if it works?
