The various accents and whatnot look fine, but I can't help thinking that overall it looks kind of like a shoebox with some doodads glued to it. You have, however, inspired me to make a cargo ship of my own. Though it will not have a main cargo bay, but cargo pods that are easily interchangeable. One of the largest sections of commercial transport is inter-modal containers. That will be the basis of my cargo ship and pods.

LDD Statistics at Eurobricks
Randal replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Ever since I started visiting this forum, it has helped my comic considerably. Mainly because of the LU mod (I can definitely say I was one of those downloaders counted) and added readers, but also because of tips and other information gleaned from reading all the topics provided. There has also been at least one instance where using a couple of the previously mentioned official set lxf files has kept me from being horribly late with an update. I agree with ADHO15, it would be nice to see those stats updated on a regular basis. Is it possible to use an algorithm in BB code so that they just show the latest numbers? As for ways to expand this section of Eurobricks, I'm thinking of starting a tutorial thread for people who would like to make their LDD images look better than the raw screen captures. It will help with colors that wash out, to make them look more defined... And as for transparent bricks, there is a way to make them look less ghostlike and more like transparent lego bricks. -
I love the zombie face, I use it every time I need to show a corpse in Brick. (Actually, I'm pretty sure I used it yesterday for today's update) I also love that gun. I would have positioned the shot zombie with the bolt coming out his back to be in line with the barrel of the gun, though. Light only bends in a prism.

In today's Brick, I featured a beat up looking LL-918, the very first Lego Space ship... and this years Raid VPR, redone in the LL 918 color scheme. The more I look at it, the more I want to give classic space recolors to a bunch of the new SPIII ships. I would love to see Lego recreate the old ships using todays expanded brick line. They wouldn't have to look exactly alike, but it should be made easy to distinguish which new ship is supposed to represent its respective old ship.

[KEY TOPIC] Official LEGO Sets made in LDD
Randal replied to Calabar's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
This would look better if TLG would put the old space wing plates in LDD. However, it was still possible to make the very first Lego spaceship. set 918: Space Transport While I made it look dingy and dirty, you can still see an LDD image of it in today's Brick. Oh... and here's one for the Raid VPR... set 5981 (also seen in todays Brick, though with the LL-918 classic space colors.) I included two recolors, one construction and one fire/rescue... as I seem to remember as a kid you'd see some sets that only differed in color and minifig, be it fire or police... so I wanted to try that with these. 5981 Raid VPR- 5,046 replies

those are great, but I think the pool table needs to be bigger, and I bet there's some way to make the pockets appear more as part of the sides than intruding upon the table. It's also sunken in too deep for that scale. Otherwise, they all look awesome. I love the foose table

[KEY TOPIC] LDD 3 bugs and brick errors

I seem to recall similar parts having that type of connection being parts of sets, though don't pressure me for which. also if you look, that grid appears to be able to connect by design. they purposely made a grid that would allow studs to fit through those holes.. they could have easily not done so. -

[KEY TOPIC] Official LEGO Sets made in LDD
Randal replied to Calabar's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I noticed that when I made the tri-fighter, i oriented the front hub wrong, and while it was a pain to connect together, it was nothing compared to trying to get it positioned right. I'm still working on it, but momentarily have given up. It has brought me to the conclusion that the hinge align tool needs to allow you to manually pick the anchored brick which everything else aligns from. often the anchor brick that doesn't move needs to be a brick other than the two you are trying to join. I also want to note that because of the awesomeness of this thread, I was able to create today's Brick on time. It required two 3 story buildings, neither of which I had even begun to piece together. Fair warning: if you are easily offended, while meant to raise social awareness, today's strip (June 1st) does contain some disturbing subject matter. Reader discretion is advised. did you put the skeleton arms off to the side because you couldn't get them to attach? Because if you reposition them horizontally, they connect quite easily.- 5,046 replies

Set8086-1 Droid Tri-Fighter LXF file I realize that you can't use the prequel droid head, and there was a part on there that LDD doesn't have, but it is inconsequential... I think it's supposed to be the rear landing gear. I also made one of the canopy pieces opaque, while leaving one transparent. I think the decals I added to the wings look nice. Unfortunately I also couldn't get the droid rifles right. This is certainly one of the most unorthodox builds for a lego ship and it's one of my favorite to look at. (Even though it's not very significant to the story.)- 5,046 replies

This is amazing. It's hard to make Lego look organic and lifelike, but you succeeded here. The cobblestone is just brilliant. In the first shot I thought it was spray paint until I saw the close up of all the little pieces you used to make it look like that. This is probably the best historic themed MOC I've ever seen.
-
The first thing I thought of when I saw this was "Man... I'd love to see Shadowfang Keep done up in Lego." That is probably one of the best thought out Dungeons in WoW, and it's a nifty castle to boot. Then I saw your interiors and it made me want to see SFK in lego even more. (or at least parts of it.) I don't know if I have time for it... but if any of you castle Lego MOC'ers also are lovers of Azeroth, that would be an awesome build. I like it so much that I've been known to take low level guildies through it with my 80 just so I could see it again. A timely reason to do a MOC like Shadowfang is that they're making a heroic version of it for high levels once WoW: Cataclysm comes out.

Magic in Lego Kingdoms; what role does it play?
Randal replied to Sirens-of-Titan's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I would like to see the concept of the forest man sets combined with the more advanced designs that todays sets seem to showcase. And, that said, while I know that the majority of sets are designed with ease of construction for kids... I'd like to see each theme have a set for AFOL types which are above and beyond in design and complexity. I'd love to see them make a castle that AFOLs just look at and drool. Same with the other themes. As far as what level magic and fantasy play... I love both history and fantasy. yesterday I built a riding saddle for a dragon that I used in today's comic... but when it comes to sets, I prefer the more historic ones to the ones that come with trolls and such. (But I'd totally buy a dragon riders set, if it was as cool or cooler than what I made for the comic.) -
Didn't mean to add controversy. I was just stating that I too wish there were more space missions/exploration... I just feel there would have been more of it had they not spent so much time, energy and money on the Space Shuttle. As stated by someone, I don't think making the shuttle was a mistake... I just think using it as their main transport was. That thing has about 2 million moving parts... that's not cheap to refit. I do like your design though

LEGO Store WIP

I'll second the hinges. looks good. A little bit ketchup and mustardy, but then, for all I know you're first floor has a Mickey D's in it... I really like your floor design. I hope you're willing to share the lxf. -
LDD WIP (Work In Progress)
Randal replied to NecroViolator's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
This was incredibly fun to make. These saucer pieces came out after I'd stopped actively collecting Lego sets. I love this green, though I want to recolor the aliens so that they stand out more from the ship. The size of the dome compared to the saucer reminds me of the space ships used in the Simpsons, though the aliens in the show take up more room on the ship. I had initially put some stuff underneath, but since I wasn't able to get it to circle the whole underside (yet) I took it off. If I can find a way to get it all around the ship, I'll put it back on, because it would look cool as perimeter greeble. -
Once I found out that the shuttles (which were supposed to be reusable to save money and make space more accessable) actually cost more money and hampered the progress of space exploration, because before a ship can go back into space it has to have super painstakingly-long, thorough and expensive inspections... I was thoroughly disgusted. I'm all for safer, cheaper disposable manned spacecraft. Use it, put it in a museum, make a new one, get back out in space faster.

I was messing around with Lego Space pieces I don't normally use and have never had in a set. I really like the metallic green with the red. If you want the .lxf I can post it here. I may redo this so that the commander is on more of a platform than in a command pod. Let me know what you think. I may make the five occupants a different color so they're more visible. It will another muted color though.

Today's Brick: Honda Honda, Faster Faster. Honda recalls an Asimo aberration before the public finds out. >_>

My comic isn't always space themed, but a fair share of my strips are. It is one of my favorite themes. Not to mention that the awesome NASA photos which make great backgrounds are public domain.

set your focus on infinity so that everything is in focus... or just do what I do and (re)create it in LDD... >_>

I'm always looking for a fun challenge. So if you have an LDD MOC that you'd love to see spiffed up and placed in a webcomic, I will do my best to write a joke around it and feature it in Brick with a link to whatever you want... be it your flickr account, or something else. All models will have full credit given to the architect. (meaning you) If you don't want your MOC .LXF to be downloadable by all, send it to me via PM. Also, let me know if you desire the joke to be clean, as sometimes I discuss adult situations. (For instance, the comic for the day of this posting is clean, but tomorrows will be a little racy.) If I can't think of anything at the moment for your creation, do not despair, sometimes I have to look at something for a while before inspiration comes to me. I don't know how successful this will be. I don't even know if I'll even get any submissions. But the offer is there. I don't have thousands of readers (hopefully only just not yet) but I do have a loyal following who would love to see what you have made. Edit: crud. could a mod change the main topic name to "Brick your MOC" ? I messed up and don't know how to change topic names for threads I create.

How does an idea of a MOC come to you?
Randal replied to RoryoCox's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I create mine from thin air, but I create them with minifigures in mind. My latest "from scratch" turned out to be so bizarre that I scratched my head until I figured it had to be retro-sci-fi. Sort of what you might see if Giger was the set designer on an old Flash Gordon serial. you can see it in this thread here.
