People destroying LEGO displays :(
Jargo replied to Paul B Technic's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Absolutely disgusting. I can't begin to imagine how Ryan must be feeling. I do have to wonder why there were no barriers around the model though. I've never seen a large Lego display piece that wasn't inside a semi-protected area. Hope the delinquents responsible for the destruction are brought to book -

My partner worked in a charity shop where loose Lego couldn't be sold. Only boxed sets were saleable. So he would bring home bags of random Lego which were invariably the remnants of a kid who'd outgrown Lego and covered in god knows what kind of filth and grime. I still have bags of it I haven't dared to investigate because it looks so grubby. I also have a quantity of Megabloks that has been mixed in. I'm disposing of it piece by piece so my partner doesn't notice a whole load being dumped. It's all that rubbish dragons and castles stuff MB did a few years ago.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 11 Rumours & Discussion
Jargo replied to CM4Sci's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Oh, the policeman is from the movie. If you look up the word constable you'll find that it can refer to a variety of professions in a variety of countries over the course of history. It may not be a policeman at all. -

A dark and blurry picture. Hmmm.... Perhaps JeagerEX could provide a link to the source? -
Yes, the quad is way too wide to fit in the plane. The hook attaches to the back of the quad via one of these:

That thing looks like crap. In fact it looks like the sort of thing you build as a kid when you haven't got much Lego and decide to use up all the parts of one colour in one build. I have no idea what the hell this is but it looks like crap and is boring as church on Sunday. So far not one decent set has come from cuusoo. And those sets that have been released have been deathly dull and small. So this is perfect for passing the cuusoo selection process. Lego sets perfect for the 1950's. Cuusoo is pointless. it's not a reflection of what people want it's an exercise in futility.

The skywalk has a sort of 1950's/1960's modernist look to it. That's mainly down to the 2/3 window alignment though. I would probably have used tape for the white road markings as the angular nature of tiles means it always looks a little broken up and disjointed. but it's a great idea and nice way to have corner buildings face each other straight on rather than at right angles to each other.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 11 Rumours & Discussion
Jargo replied to CM4Sci's topic in Special LEGO Themes
To me, it's clearly a printed one-piece. There's a moulded brow, but below that is completely flat where the face is printed. Then the lower lip and fangs are moulded. There's no recess or shadows/highlights at the edges of the blue and white sides of the face as there would be if it was two pieces. the only shadow is on the eyes from the moulded brow and under the lower lip and beard moulding. -
I pick and choose across all the themes. Whatever takes my fancy. Space, City, Castle, Pirates, Wild West, Action, Technic, Bionicle, Creator, Licensed.... I wouldn't see it as a problem, more of a plus point. I only display a small amount of stuff though. And stuff gets rotated. So whatever the latest thing is that I've found interest in is what I have out. Everything else is broken down and sorted into drawer units and tubs.

Looking for sets similar to Space Police HQ (set 5985).
Jargo replied to jFox's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
I would just look for the large trans dark blue panels and windows that came in classic space sets on Bricklink or ebay. Futuron and Exploriens had some cool pieces. Then combine those with white and black bricks and the world is your oyster. This door This panel which does come without the numbers This big quarter dome This hinged half dome This dome but obviously in trans dark blue Plus loads of different windows and vehicle canopies, bricks, panels and plates. A lot of these also come in white and black. For the money you'd spend on buying an old set with only a few really useful parts you could get a whole bunch of terrific stuff by cherry picking the pieces you want on Bricklink. I rarely buy sets these days. Most of my collection is bits and bobs bought from BL or Ebay. Mostly because old sets are stupidly expensive and just buying separate parts from loads of different sellers allows me to pick up some bargains. -

Strictly speaking that's a lyre rather than a harp. The horn is a hunting horn. The drum looks like either an African Djembe or a native American hand drum. -

I'm not offended by guns. Just the glorification of them. However I'm not going to be drawn into debate because it will only descend into pointless mud flinging.- 19 replies

Is it cheaper? It's certainly lower quality and more akin to megabloks than Lego. If they were buying Doctor Who sets I could understand an upsurge in CB popularity as this is the big anniversary year for the show with massive media saturation. I would imagine that the growing price of Lego puts parents off if they're budgeting.

I love visiting Ballabreek. The Pierrot's act seems so accurate to the sort of humour Victorians enjoyed. Tangled and tragically comical. There used to be a troupe of Pierrots that performed near my home during the late Victorian era, in a pleasure gardens adjacent to one of the Mersey ferry landing stages. There was also a Lido and tea room with a huge hotel between them all. The hotel boasted an indoor swimming pool. Sadly, by the 1930's the Ferry service was gone and everything fell into decline. All that remains is a few broken tiles clinging a remnant of the hotel wall in a vastly overgrown patch of waste ground. The pleasure gardens were ploughed through when a road bypass was layed down. :( Which is all by the by. What i wanted to suggest was that a Lido might be a nice addition to Ballabreek. The sea isn't always a nice place to swim and a small Lido would give families a safe place to bathe.

Lego Creator Expert 10234 Sydney Opera House
Jargo replied to GRogall's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Wow! The black white and dark tan certainly pop. I would love to get this for the parts. Not least of which the huge blue baseplate. I actually do have a coffee table big enough to take this. I'm going to have to talk to my partner about maybe getting this as an anniversary present to ourselves. I couldn't justify the cost any other way. It'd look fantastic in our living room though.- 127 replies

Meh. Not liking the gingerbread man. Would have been far cuter as a costumed character. -

I prefer the Blacktron 2 logo but Blacktron is Blacktron and Any addition to the ranks is welcome even if it is slightly incongruous technology. -

Ooh, a Blacktron mech. Cool. That's a highlight of the series. Loving the welder. I'll want a few of those. Scientist looks good. Not exciting but very useful. Yeti is pretty meh. Not my cup of tea at all. Lady robot is probably among the worst of the CMF's Can't wait to see the rest. -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 11 Rumours & Discussion
Jargo replied to CM4Sci's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I'm still leaning towards the gingerbread man being a costumed character. It just seems odd to have an inanimate object as a minifigure. I know the crash test dummy was done but that's usable as an actual crash test dummy. An oversized gingerbread man just seems too weird to me. So I can only see it as a minifigure in a gingerbread man costume like this or this. -
Yes, Max Solarflare is the new blue team member. According to the product details on amazon. The Lego minisite has nothing on him as it isn't showing the GT set yet. Love that photo Tim
