bb424 Brick Round Corner 3 x 3 x 2 Dome Top Tan bb424 Brick Round Corner 3 x 3 x 2 Dome Top Dark Bley A must for my town, would have picked light grey too but needed that vote for: 87079 Tile 2 x 4 Tan 87079 Tile 2 x 4 Dark Bley 6881 Tile 6 x 6 White the x4 tiles resemble old flagstones so had to vote for those and the 6x6 in white would do me for building cladding or corridor floors in my hospital. 3811 Baseplate 32 x 32 Black 3811 Baseplate 32 x 32 Dark Brown black baseplates are awesome so had to vote for this and dark brown for variation in farm fields or old buildings 4719c01 Bicycle, Complete Assembly Lime bicycles in any colour are good but voted for lime to get away from primary colours x69 Green Plant, Tree Cypress Dark Green like I said before this was a must have vote. I'd have picked this in any green to be honest 48288 Technic, Tile 8 x 16 White again thinking about my hospital. I really don't like light bley so it had to be white. It'll be interesting to see which parts win this vote. Looking forward to the results being announced.

O M G that was so hard. So many really cool pieces and only five votes. Nigh on impossible to choose. To be honest I think all the parts in all the colours would be fantastic. Had to vote for the dark green cypress tree.

Aerealight's gets my vote. simply because of the time and effort he put into creating it. The modified torso could be improved I suppose, lengthen the indent upwards a little but I prefer the indented sides to TLG's printed shadow giving the feminine shape. TLG could do something similar and create a specific female torso piece. I think the face on Aerealight's is more like the character of Aayla Secura. More determined and focused. TLG's seems too benign and passive.

White? Black surely. Hate to be a pedant but in your otherwise great review that stuck out like a Megablok minifigure.
-
all except the rikshaw tricycle. How cool would one of those be trundling round a city set up? Lego really have to create that there rikshaw.
-
hopefully an underground tube train. or an overhead light railway. I love those flat fronted trains and the tapered sides. None of the recent trains seem fit for a short haul journey. I really want a train that can loop around my city rather than just pass through.

I was watching a documentary on telly about London bridges last night. I realised how ugly Tower bridge is. How over designed it is. Typical Victorian ostentation. I'm sure the set will be impressive but it's not for me.

D2C Designers requesting feedback for 2012 models
Jargo replied to CopMike's topic in General LEGO Discussion
1.No. Only interested in minifig scale products. 2. N/A 3. Don't want to see any world icon sets. 4. Huge city zoo using many of the existing animals and lots of new ones. Including in the set a monorail travelling around the zoo and an over all bias towards conservation of endangered species. Also scope to expand the zoo in the city theme with modular add-ons. Would be nice to see Lego working with someone like the Worldwide Fund for nature (WWF) in showing the educational and conservation nature of zoos. 5. Would like to see less use of primary colours. especially in city buildings. and much more variety of colour in civillian vehicles. Also the return of the cyprus tree to many sets. And other new foliage pieces. I'd also like to point out for future hospital sets, (hoping to see one in 2012), that it's very rare for red to be used in any medical building as it is classed as bad luck and also has too many bad connotations for patients. Instead I suggest greens or blues be used which is far more consistent with real world medical services. -
I had a puffer fish, jellyfish, eel on my list. I was going to add goldfish but forgot. I think i was just trying to think of enough animals to g with the maximum number of themes. And where possible an animal that can double as another. And yes, my list is a bit crazy. oh well...

Thanks for the review lisqr, definitely a set I'll get a couple of to add a different team to an off road bikers race. Would it be possible to add a photo of just the green bike without the weaponry or rider?

I didn't to begin with but one night i couldn't sleep and started looking at the sets and decided to plan. Main town/city, outskirts, countryside leading to coastal village. then I added a river running past the town down to the village and the other half of the town/city on the far bank. I drew all sorts of plans for streets and where was best to situate specific buildings and now I'm just building up from the bottom. starting with municipal services and emergency services. then stuff like communications and public transport. civillian transport. the last thing I'll add is houses. I'll fit those in wherever there's space. mostly scratch built. I amend my plans whenever new sets appear and look at stuff from other themes that will help bring architecture styles or items of interest. such as museum exhibits or civic space statues. I mix old and new styles in to give a sense of how my town/city grew but I've ignored the large modular buildings like cafe corner. I've also picked a colour scheme for the buildings to give a sense that a lot of them were built in the same time frame. I have pages and pages of lists for brick type and colour relating to individual services. so when I come to build the hospital for example I know It's going to be mostly white with accents of green and blue and not a hint of red anywhere as hospitals don't use red because of it's association with blood and death. The fire service will have a tan building to house the red engines. The police station will most likely be a grey building. the airport will lie between the outskirts of the town and the coastal village buffered on all sides by farm land and woodland. So I'm gathering all the sets and parts to fulfill specific jobs and needs and stock piling them ready for the day I can put it all together. my loft is groaning under the weight.

How long do you wait until you open your lego?
Jargo replied to Ratshot's topic in General LEGO Discussion
As soon as it arrives or I get it home I make a mug of tea and then set to tearing open boxes skimming through istructions and sorting pieces. I don't think I could hold off for more than an hour if i had to. -

A non fantasy era benign kingdom. traders not fighters. artisans and courtiers. rich and benevolent. good to the peasants in the village below the castle. the only threat being the evil wife of the king who is a secret sourceress. and commands a black demon that is summoned using the ancient book of incatations she keeps locked in the highest tower. a black demon with ADHD and antisocial tendencies. with glow in the dark ghosts but a brand new sculped ghosty shape with arms and a clear lightsaber type stand so it can 'float'. The castle would be white with dark orange and mid nougat roof sections and lots of gold and silver touches. big fountain in the castle courtyard. ivy up the walls. flowers at the base of the towers. large windows and a minstrel gallery. would come with the king and his wife, minstrels, two footmen and a hunting dog. Other sets could include: River barge with a jetty. bargemaster, kings wife and oarsmen. Horse stables. with pitchfork, hay wagon and Ostler minifig. plus two grey dappled horses. Windmill and cottage. Miller and wife who is a baker. lots of pale yellow, tan and dark orange baguettes and a new cottage bun loaf piece. Small modular peasant cottage. allowing for easy village building with generic peasant minifigs. Falconers lodge with parrot painted up like hawks and falcons. possibly also an owl. New animals assortment with Deer/stag, Badger, rabbit, red squirrel, fox, bull, sheep/goats, peacock. Minifig assortment with courtiers, courtisans and serving staff. Minifig assortment with the prince, paiges and ceremonial guards. Village green with large tree, well and stone circle. kings wife and demon with terrified peasant weilding a pitchfork but none of it girly or fairytale. not a hint of bellville about it. just a quaint quiet kingdom about to have hell unleashed upon them. -
LEGO 8684 Minifigures Series 2 (Official Pictures)
Jargo replied to GRogall's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Yummy! I'd ditch the Witch, highway police officer (or potential security guard, with a quick switcheroo of the helmet to a black peaked hat) and adventurer. loving the sporty figs. 70's DJ. Minifig trophy. The mexican; technically it's accurate as part of the Western theme with Cowboy and Indian. I think finding just two or three a bit iffy is pretty good. It says to me Lego put together an assortment with broad appeal. Although my wallet wishes it were the other way round and I only liked two or three.... I could see myself wanting four mimes. a troupe of mime. shove them in my city square with the clown and the two jesters from the castle theme. and the magician. the DJ and the Karaoke girl go together, bar entertainment. with a different head the ringmaster could become a hotel concierge. I'll want two Judo guys to set up a fight. Pharoah looks fantastic that'll look great in the Egypt room of my city museum. The skier has a number on his chest which is annoying as it would be quite cool to have three or four skiers. Still, the ski hat is cool. You don't suppose the barbell that the weightlifter is holding is a new kind of wheel. say, maybe for small wheels under the City tram? like the skateboard wheels but bigger, snap into place design. -
Trams have been planned for a few UK cities but haven't been implemented due to lack of funding. It's seen as the answer to traffic congestion. and lowering carbon footprints. Manchester has trams and Liverpool used to with trams going across the city east - west and buses going north - south. Liverpoolalso had an overhead railway running along the dock road servicing the docks and ferry terminus. Also useful to the workers at the big shipping companies like White star and Cunard. And this is in addition to the mainline train station and underground train loop. A lot of public transport systems for a small city. Add in Taxi services and the airport and cross river ferry and it just shows how it's possible to cram all this into a limited land space.

Hahahaha I love it! Cool phone box too. I love seeing street 'furniture' MOCs. Fancy buildings and a few trees do not a city make. It's all the incidental stuff, the mundane and ordinary things we take for granted and generally only see subliminally that combine to make a true city landscape. I'm thinking of doing those automatic toilets for my city. Not sure how I'll achieve it but I'm after something easily replicated. And yes little stick figures on the door of your toilet would look great

If the next stop on the track was a terminus then it seems logical that you'd have this stop with two platforms inbound/outbound and just one track. The station could also be on a loop system in which case trains would only be going one way. I'm not too sure about the taxi design. It doesn't look like any taxi I've ever seen. I think it's the strong sloping front and the 1x4 holding the two roof pieces together that spoil it for me. The colour is wishy washy too. They should have gone with the green and yellow as seen in the TRU fan's choice artwork. Get some more colours on the City roads. The station itself isn't bad for a small provincial one. It's a little worrying that there's no hand rails on the bridge steps and the bridge handrail is so low. Obviously there are very surefooted minifigs in Lego City. I do like the station sign. Adding the word 'City across the middle of the railway logo really makes it pop. And the new truck in town poster sticker is pretty cool. Would that fit on a 4x5 window? might look better with a frame around it. The telephone at the platform edge also looks a little unsafe. I'd put it at the back of the platform myself. I'd also turn the clock sideways on with a second clock tile at the back. most stations I've been to have the clocks facing along the platform. I can see this fitting in well on the outskirts of any tabletown. maybe combined with the level crossing. Perhaps out near the farm or towards the docks. It's definitely not an inner City station to me. I also kind of wish Lego would make up their mind about the City train station colour scheme. red or yellow. or is it red for branch lines and yellow for intercity? Over all I think lego could have done better. The dominating part of the set is the bridge and it looks clunky and unfinished. A wall or fence at the back of the platforms would have finished off the set better and just a little more thought about where the components sit on the set could have made it look a little more flashy. I can't see myself buying this set. If this is an homage to 7822 then probably following the design of that set more closely would have worked out better. I'm going to stick with my 7997 station.

I love the vehicles. Any new City vehicles are good as far as I'm concerned. The design trend we've had since 2005 has really gripped me as a consumer. I think the tram would have looked better with another carriage but Lego always give trains too few. This doesn't look too hard to replicate and extend though. The bunny ear coach looks great. Nice fresh colour scheme. damn shame this wasn't a separate release. Street sweeper truck is quite cute and is at least in a similar colour scheme to the garbage truck although it appears to have garage markings rather than the recycle signage of the garbage truck. Finally the green bicycle! well, if it is actually green by the time the set arrives. we can only hope it isn't yet another red one. The bus stop and tram stop look ok. they do what they're supposed to. it's the little shop that's disappointing. everybody loves the little shop and this is just too small and under developed. Could have been a decent small building with a public toilet on the side. surely even lego minifigs need to go before a long journey on a coach? The car. another yellow car. would it really be too much to ask for a non primary colour car? dark red or dark blue. nougat even. anything but red yellow or white. Whinges and whines aside I do really like this set. I'll buy this if I can. It'll all look great in my tabletown. With modifications.

Not that anyone would know me. I'm Brickenhead town dweller from Brickenhead (obviously) which is near Lugopool in the Brickish isles.. I'm a long time fan/collector/builder though there have been periods where for lack of funds I've had to miss out on lots of Lego sets. Primarily I'm interested in town/city Lego and I'm curently Embarked on an ambitious project to build a large tabletown. starting at the grass roots level and building up. So for example all the city services and utilities are my current area of collect/build. followed by mercantile services. with the domestic and leisure side of my town being the last to fall in place when I finally get there. I also tap into various other themes such as adventurers, agents, space, castle but mostly for specific parts. I probably buy more lego parts from bricklink and ebay than i do actual sets. My other big idea is a secret underground base inside a volcano which will be huge as I intend to build the entire island the volcano sits on. and with limited budget my projects are years in the making. Aside from lego I like to press wild flowers and create hybrid lifeforms in my secret underwater laboratory. I'd better not divulge too much about that though. I'm the brother of Tony Priestman of the Brickish Association and it's pretty much down to him that I have a love of the brick. Though we differ in that he's a bit of a purist and I welcome anything new and shiney and possibly big and '<insert that tiresome argument>'. Don't shoot me, it saves on bricks, when you're building big it matters. To me anyway. anything else you want to know just ask.
