  1. You would need a second steering motor for 4WS and the hub already has all ports taken.
  2. It may come as a surprise but I really don't enjoy being negative towards LEGO sets. So it came as a relief to me that 42128 seems to be one of the best Technic products in the last few years, and it's incredibly reasonably priced on top of that. Fans of trucks, of highly functional Technic sets and of pneumatics should all be very happy with it, especially seeing as you can buy two of these for the price of a single Zetros set. I only wish the colors were different and the stickers less trashy, but that may just be a matter of personal test.
  3. Just get rid of the front diff and put the 28-teeth gear instead. It can't possibly make the steering much worse than it already is. It is. But this set doesn't have portal axles, it has planetary wheel hubs.
  4. Amazing photos as usual. Kinda surprised by how high you rated this set, especially considering the price tag.
  5. My review is below, lengthy but the speed build takes a lot of time and there are chapters for your convencience. Will write more whan I have time, and the 42128 video review is coming tomorrow. Also coming shortly: the 42129 detailed outdoors test and 42129 competing against custom-built LEGO trial trucks.
  6. The guy must have been in real rush to build the set ;) Thank you for your support guys, the embargo for 42128 lifts this Friday, but due to the unfortunate fact that YouTube punishes creators for releasing multiple videos same day (as I found out by releasing 6 reviews simultaneously in December and getting basically no views) I have to publish the 42129 review on Friday and wait with the 42128 until Saturday. Thank you for your patience. The good news is that I will be also publishing a separate video with 42129 being tested outdoors and competing against custom-built LEGO trial trucks, and maybe something more.
  7. No to rain on your parade, but it's not much of an off-road chassis if it's only RWD. 4x4 would be much more off-roady.
  8. Sorry for bumping up this old topic but I wanted to let you know that the building instructions for this MOC are now available free of charge at https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-25045/Sariel/rc-renault-ft-17/#details Enjoy!
  9. I can tell you that we had to go through personality tests during that final workshop, and the results seemed to have a huge impact on who gets hired and who doesn't. Milan was exceptionally good at building C-models of the official sets, if memory serves me well, and this shows ability to work with limitations much better than free MOCing does.
  10. FYI, I have been "allowed" into the LEGO recruitment process before, back in 2016 when there was a job opening for a Creator designer. The whole process lasted several months, I can't give you details but I have successfully completed all stages and finally flew to Denmark for a final workshop which lasted 2 days. There were about 8 final candidates and what I can tell you is that it was immediately apparent that we were split into two groups: AFOLs and people who had no prior LEGO experience but who studied industrial design. I admit that we, AFOLs, were absolutely no match for these guys and to the best of my knowledge two people were hired in the end, both of them from the designers group. It's quite possible that the same background is preferred here, and I can also say that being a team player and being able to work with limitations is being taken very seriously. In the end, it's perfectly possible and perfectly legal that LEGO doesn't want to hire AFOLs for this particular job at the moment. There's probably a lot we would have to unlearn and they may simply prefer to start with someone who's a "clean slate" but with the right education behind him/her.
  11. Depends on the load. You can do some adjustments playing with the ratio of gears on the ratchet, but if there's too much load, the ratchet won't mesh with the "receivers".
  12. So here's another take on this transmission design, but this time with an added mechanism that allows to drive and shift it using just a single motor:
  13. Here's a version of my 4-speed sequential RC transmission with a reverse instead of the 4th gear, and with free instructions which include the mechanical stepper and the way of connecting motors: Instructions can be downloaded, as usual, here: http://sariel.pl/downloads/
  14. Aaaand here comes part 2, where I test another 6 propellers, but this time much less common ones:
  15. I'm sure there are other people besides me who never tire of making LEGO RC boats :) So with these folks in mind, I've prepared a simple comparison and ranking of performance of various kinds of LEGO propellers in water. Of course, the downside of my test is that for simplicity all propellers are run at the same RPM, despite varying wildly in size. This is to see the differences with some common denominator, but in reality, since small propellers generate less drag and hence need less torque than the big ones, you can spin them much faster with the same motor. This is all a matter of playing around with a gear ratio. I could theoretically try and find the optimal gear ratio for each propeller for a given motor, but then the same motor probably wouldn't be best for all propellers, and besides in my experience propellers perform differently in clean tap water than they do in e.g. a lake.
  16. Yes, it's a lengthy video but most of it is taken by the speed build which you can skip. The largest offering from LEGO, big enough to hold its own Guiness World Record, is certainly not for everybody, but it makes one crazy display piece.
  17. I'm amazed by this set. It's like Model Team goes into space and meets quite a bit of Technic. I had to nitpick really hard to find any faults:
  18. I've had a chance to play with a pre-release version of the BuWizz 3.0 and here's everything I found out about it. And yes, it's FAST.
  19. We've all been there, haven't we? ;) The project is too silly to warrant a description so allow me to just share a video and a link where you can vote for it: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/7c3d0502-cce6-40d8-937b-f76c095cadb1
  20. Duplo tires on LEGO rims? I smell heresy...
  21. I've added two extra wheels that you guys requested and also introduced a "rarity" column, where each wheel is rated rare (in 3 sets or less), uncommon (in 4 to 12 sets) or common (>12 sets). Hope this helps! http://wheels.sariel.pl/
  22. Edit: aaaand done! All rims/tires images are now hosted right there with the tool itself so they should pop up instantly, I hope. I guess now that I have a complete list of rims and tires used, I could try making nice renders of them all and using them instead... Gosh, why are there only 24 hours in a day?
  23. The smaller images are displayed directly from Bricklink, so it all depends on the connection you have with their server. I probably should just download them and host them myself, but haven't gotten around to doing it yet.
  24. Oh yeah, I have this one but totally missed it, sorry. I'll probably add it next month. I also have this idea for a "wheel builder" feature where you pick a rim and see all tires that fit it and vice versa, but this will take a while to make and I don't exactly have much time these days.
