  1. That ead my initial experience with buying a second hand set. I bought 8285 second hand for €110 but when I got it it was in disgusting condition. Years of dust caked onto very part and I decided it was too much work to wash all 1800 parts. That is when I decided to swap as much as possible out for brand new parts. That method continues today, I keep the rare/unique parts and eadh and polish them. My own 8448 I bought second hand was in mint condition.
  2. I agree that the new LBG is a better colour...I also have a hard time telling the old Light Gray apart from LBG, but as said having direct sunlight plus a part you know to he LBG as Terrence helps. I was going through my LBG years bag and discovered that I had mixed in some Light Grsu parts...so I had to go through everything. I found several gears that belonged in the Light Gray bags I have. Butvi have also noticed colour variations in LBG Also. Much like how redvor yellowbluftarms csm vary in shade bi believe LBG also suffers from this temperature colour issue. I do think Light Gray looks dirty...I plan to rebuild 8461 with LBG parts.
  3. Personally, I can't justify the price tag... I will wait until it drops to €250. Also...pity no 1×9 liftarms in Orange... I need one.
  4. You can find Part ×346 in Trans Yellow... It might work as well as standard yellow.
  5. if anyone is interested, this guy has some Red #44 and Red #3 connectors for sale, i bought some of the #44: http://www.ebay.ie/i...6-/222175537847 http://www.ebay.ie/i...6-/222161350060 i have bought from him before...legit, he sold me 12 of Part #32195b in Black for €1 each :-) he had a few lots of Part # x873c01 for €4 each and it included 4 of Part # 57515 :-) so i got all the legit parts i needed for my builds and i dumped all the fake parts. and hey!...look what i just bought on ebay for €1.89 each :-)
  6. I like the use of the trans Red liftarms..they don't get much love or attention sadly. I have about 10 of them brand new.
  7. Based on this thread...is the Porsche the most flawed Technic model ever?
  8. I was happy to pay 165, 150 + 15 shipping from Germany. Didn't give a toss about the box.... and I had not seen any discounts from say Argos or Toys.ie
  9. I was watching the speed build of 60125 on Brick Builder... That set has 8 of Part #2744 in Lime Green. This part is also in Blue in a Nexo Knights set...so hopefully it Also comes back in Black, I need a load of them in that colour to rebuild old sets.
  10. This set is gonna be a parts donor highlight, I am waiting on Part # 2743 to come out again in Black.
  11. I bought this off eBay for 165 Euro with shipping, the box was badly damaged...ergo the price reduction, but the contents were untouched. Its sitting on top my wardrobe teasing me to build it....nah, you wait!...I have other fish to fry (evil laugh) I like the B model, it uses most of the parts. My only issue is that you ate basically building the truck section twice. U brlive both A and B ate identical builds. As such its not as appealing, though one could build using different colour panels I guess.
  12. Now here again is a good example of a potential official model. I don't brluve there are any sky cranes in the Technical line. It also seems like a set that could retail for 80 or 90 Euro...with PF included? Joe many parts does your set use? I watched some YouTube videos of sky cranes and the design and look is very accurate, well dome sir
  13. Same here... Waiting for 43030 to go down in price....
  14. i bought BNIB sets of 8271 and the second edition of 8453 of €30 each on ebay: https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?id=65483#T=S&O={} https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?S=8453-2#T=S&O={} i picked up several other sets as well, i got 5 copies of 3054 BNIB for €5 each....i got them just for the parts: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemInv.asp?S=3054-1 i found 8213 BNIB for €16, again it was just for the parts as i need brand new Light Gray parts for other builds i am working on: https://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemInv.asp?S=8213-1 i got a couple of 1257 for €3 each BNIB, some nice parts in that set: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemInv.asp?S=1257-1 got 8236 BNIB for €21: https://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemInv.asp?S=8236-1 i got 8433 for €47, the set was 30 but the shipping killed me at €17, its got some amazing and super RARE coloured parts: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemInv.asp?S=8433-1 it had parts thar are used in 8653 and 8461...so i was very pleased with this. i also got 8291 off an Aussie seller, it had no box and was missing the tyres/white rims....but the parts bags were still factory sealed and had the main model instrctions included, the B model instructions was missing....in total with shipping to Ireland i paid €33, i think that was a bargin! https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?S=8291-1#T=S&O={}
  15. deffo... i have been buying from him for years, German ebay seller: http://www.ebay.ie/i...=STRK:MEBIDX:IT actually, you are the second person today to question me if a part i had was legit or fake....i guess my recent excursion and checking out those fake chinese sets have rubbed off on me, people now questioning if my stuff is legit or not...not really fair as it was mostly an (expensive) experiment.
  16. cheers!...also, a little preview of my other rebuild project in the works (later), from bottom to top = 8653, 8416, 8145
  17. Jim/mods...if you think this thread is spam or a waste without pics etc/too soon then please delete. I got a formal warning over those fake Chinese threads I started...so I do not want to get banned! Let me explain my thought process first, it will probably be considered by most to be expensive.. even bizarre. I bought 8448 second hand off eBay for €161 with shipping. No box + manual #1 was missing, but the guy who owned it kept it inside a case for years...it was mint, really superb condition. I am obsessed with rebuilding old sets by swapping out old parts for brand new, where possible. Anything I can't find/have brand new gets washed and polished. This is where I am at now, I am almost finished parting out and cleaning 8448. I am almost ready to build, I want to try do a review/pictorial rebuild of this classic set. When I start I will take pics as I move along the build process. Give my thoughts on the build and the set etc. Probably be another week though before I sit down and build, but I wanted to give you guys a preview/heads up of what is coming :-) (edit):: i took a couple of pics of the parts bag, full to the brim!!! https://www.bricklin...d=5656#T=S&O={} http://brickset.com/sets/8448-1
  18. Thanks for all the advice, but I found an eBay seller who had the white rims brand new...they were 2 Euro each. The other white parts are easily replaced. The bigger problem is the Light Gray parts... A lot of them are yellowed and off colour. Like the camshaft's, one edge is badly yellowed while the side not exposed to sunlight is fine. I am gonna have to swap out parts for brand new where possible and others in second hand but standard Gray. Even some of the Red parts went pink!! There are some amazing tyres and wheel rims out there, to name a few: 8880 8448 8435 8420 8462 8417....I am sure there are others. I was sooo impressed by the wheels on 8448 I bought a second set. As I have an idea to build the C model of 8458 with these wheels + the Red panels design used on 8145,8653 etc. I love that C model but I don't have the metallic silver panels and wheels nesscary.
  19. indeed...i was gonna buy them and hold for a rainy day or to resell them at a higher price...but i have 20 and nothing to do with them so didnt want to spend the money....kinda regret it now. someone just got a heck of a bargin though! this other guy also has 9 of Part #44: http://www.ebay.ie/i...psAAOSwMmBVxQuv i took a picture of my rare Red parts bag, i have some 1x6 and 1x7 thin red liftarms in there as well :-) http://imgur.com/a/9LP6j
  20. are you using 14L flex hoses in White?.....super rare, 8461
  21. i bought 8422 recently for €3.50 auction, the set was in very poor condition, yellowed...but i discovered that the tyres are unique to set set, the tyre thread is fanastic. its like street bike thread, i am gonna try bring this old set back to life rebuilding with new parts, its just interesting they never reused that tyre again. i also love the tyres on 8416/8435....i got a nice few of them now :-)
  22. i have 20.....and an ebay shop just had 9 of them on sale for one pound each GBP, needless to say they were all bought up.
