[REVIEW] 2H 2015 Video Reviews
JGW3000 replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Sariel, great review, I've been wanting to get one of those horse-head squirrel hamster feeders . What string did you use for Cranezilla? And as Blakbird mentioned, adding additional counterweights will help the stability, probably add additional battery boxes is the best solution - any ideas what the weight limit will be and still allow the turntable to rotate freely? Information will be useful as I just know my kid is gonna want to make the boom as long as possible -
Jim, great review as always, especially the environmental shots and playing nicely with the Volvo. I am surprised no one has asked this yet - how much room and how easily modifiable will it be to add motors and IR-receivers/S-bricks to make an "ultimate version"? Is there room in/under the cabin for a servo motor?

Brick alignment issues with LDD
JGW3000 replied to HandofBobb's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
This can happen if you misplaced a brick somewhere. One method is to place a large baseplate or other reference brick into your model, and then copy your model in sections onto the new reference, in this way you can check the alignment section by section. Otherwise, you may need to rebuild from scratch. -
Advanced Models 10248 Ferrari F40: Discussion Topic

Also, not liking all of the stickers, they all seem to be small and will be very fidgety to apply, especially on the 1x2 slope part, four of which are highly visible on the front corners. Even the official images have the stickers on these parts not quite aligned with the brick-built black strip around the rest of the car, may just leave them off if I decide to get this set. Otherwise, its a winner for design and price point. -
Advanced Models 10248 Ferrari F40: Discussion Topic

Anyone figure this out yet? Something related to displaying the engine, perhaps? -
Great idea, but I didn't support as it seems to be way overpriced, $50 for 10 1x1 light bricks and a wireless transmitter plate seems excessive to me. Clearly the market is very narrow and exclusive, and won't support the goal. Since they seem to be able to make these parts, perhaps a different distribution method would be better - diy instructions with a shopping list or instructions with just the electronics. This would allow users to install in mobile MOCs and maybe connect to PF battery box as well.

Likewise, my kids are obsessed with AB Transformers and AB Go! (the kart racing game), and AB Epic/classic/seasons/SW/Space still get game play as well. Success will depend on the appeal of the sets themselves - playability, buildability, and the usual appeal of LEGO to the target audience, not to AFOLs. LEGO Lone Ranger sets flopped as the movie was a stinker, lets hope Rovio has a good concept in development, so that the LEGO AB sets will get some traction.

Actually (and correct me if I am wrong), the brick separators are not made from ABS, but from a slightly softer plastic, to limit the damage to ABS parts - regardless, alternate colors would be nice.

Well deserved and earned, as Jason (JKBrickworks) has been making excellent MOCs. Congratulations! I'd probably have to get at least two of these when they come out. Its likely to be a larger set, as they describe it as "customizable" which means alternate parts will be included. I am also guessing we should see this very soon, as no new parts, colors, or complicated designs are needed.

I'm looking at selling my 41999 so that we can get the 42043 - lesson to the kids that you can't just keep buying stuff all the time. Its been used off road a bit, so not in pristine (ahem) condition.

Generic Contest Discussion
JGW3000 replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I'd like to see a challenge part contest, in which every builder must use a specified set of parts - maybe 50 or 100 must use part numbers (any color, to be more flexible), and with a total part limit. -
Choice of colors in Architecture sets really fits well with the subject matter. I mean, who doesn't like the brick-yellow colored house in 21005 Fallingwater being the same color as the brick-yellow colored ground and brick-yellow colored surrounding hillside, they all merge nicely together when displayed.

Nice rendition of a painting by Mondrian, my favorite modern artist!

Best MOC ever!!! As a closet-fan of FLW, I am duly impressed! Any chance of bringing it out East to New England?

Nice to see the PF's going in - L-motors hooked up to the LA's, this thing is going to spin! Did you give it a test drive? -
For some reason today I had an urgent need to listen to Canned Heat, Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, War, and CCR - material I haven't listened to in decades (I guess The Animals and Traffic are next). Yikes, the 60's are calling me back! (fyi - I listen to my kids music all the time, but its just the same-old same-old to me, heard it better and done better the first time these styles came up)

Future MOCs
JGW3000 replied to Epic Technic's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I'm thinking of this, but not sure how to capture the body panel shapes accurately -
Man those 58088 spoked wheel covers are killing me, any suggestions for replacement? Wheel hubs will be black. I am thinking about building the model in all black, need to replace the flex hoses as well - maybe as flat silver.

RC Hamster

I need a very detailed pdf of the building instructions . By the way, nice use of old grey parts, waiting for the parts list on rebrickable. -
No surprises here, easy to guide the quiz to where you want it to go

Nifty solution. I've done similar; looking forward to seeing those LA's lift something!
